“Best Snorkeling Ever”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 19, 2014

Before this trip, I had only snorkeled in Cozumel from a Catamaran...never again. This is a legit snorkel experience and is quite a workout. We snorkeled Deadman's Reef and saw a Sting Ray, Eagle Rays, a Moray Eel, numerous fish and lots of beautiful coral. The water was clear- even with a 45 ft depth you could easily see everything on the bottom. You swim out to the reef from the beach at Paradise Cove so it does involve a good bit of physical exertion- I would not recommend this tour for very small children or the elderly. This tour also included kayaking on Pelican Lake and snorkeling at the Blue Hole. There are several different tours to choose from...and Shamie and our guide, Ensenio (sp) were very helpful. Because we did not book this tour through our cruise ship, we did not have to wait around with a large group of people at Freeport. This experience taught us that we will never book shore excursions through the ship again...there are much better things to be had independently. Finally, lunch was included...I had the Conch Fritters and they were delicious!

“Best tour!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 15, 2014

Calabash was the best part of my cruise! We took the ecology tour that included history, driving, a state park, a blue hole, lunch on the most beautiful beach, etc etc! Shamie and his assistant, Olivera, were so knowledgeable about the island - from it's history to the animals to the ecology!
It was exactly what we wanted. I wanted to see the island and learn about it - not just sit on a pretty beach with a million other people. That's exactly what I got. When I booked, Shamie made sure to tell me that this tour was filled with stories and history and made sure that's what I wanted.
The stories he told about the island and history were very interesting! The island's history is tangled with Americans! The houses were beautiful! He brought us to beaches were no one was! Not a tourist in site.
Lunch was on the most beautiful beach. (You must have the conch burger! The iced tea is huge!!). Shamie calls in the order so,you aren't waiting long - who'd care with that beautiful view??)
I could go on and on about how great this tour was.
Everyone he did business with was kind and welcoming.
If you're looking for a fancy time, with a million of other people then you should stick to the hotels with everyone else. If you want to spend way too much money on a cruise excursion only to have three seconds with a dolphin, then stick to the expensive cruise options. If you want an EXPERIENCE that most people won't ever have then book your Calabash tour!
They kept an eye on the time so we would be back with no rush to get on the ship. They took pictures of us together! They even asked us about our kids - who we left at home!
We felt like we were visiting a relative and they were showing us there area.
Thank you so much, Shamie and Olivera!! We wish we could go back today! You made our vacation complete. We can't stop talking about it; the kids want to go meet you and discuss critters and animals!! <3

“WONDERFUL day, fabulous tour guide!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 13, 2014

As a part of our recent trip to the Bahamas, we decided to take a day to go on this tour. What a great experience!! Our guide, Shamie was very informative about the history of the island, the culture and answered all of our questions. This was my first experience kayaking and snorkeling and Shamie made me feel safe and at ease with his clear instructions, patience and kindness. Because it was very windy, I was cold after getting out of the water and he even let me wear his coat during the kayaking portion of the tour! While at Deadman's Reef, we were snorkeling in the deep waters. Not only did Shamie point things out that we couldn't see (I saw three sting rays!) He made sure to check on us every few minutes to see how we were doing! Overall, he showed us a spectacular day and we were very pleased with him! I would recommend this tour to anyone, even if you're not "into" kayaking and snorkeling and would ask for Shamie as your tour guide. He will definitely make the tour worthwhile for you!! ~Alta G.

“Calabash Eco Adventures...Worth the Trip!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 6, 2014

Spent the day out with Calabash on our recent trip through Freeport. First let me say that we are a family of 5 with three active young boys (7,8,11) and this was a great day out of snorkeling, swimming and exploring away from the cruise ship crowds. Calabash made it easy to book the adventure (all via email) and picked us up at the port (Winnie was super friendly). We drove across the island to a secluded beach where we met our guide (Ansenio) and picked up our kayaks. We kayaked to Peterson Cay National Park where we snorkeled around the island avoiding fire coral, hunting for shells, looking at colorful fish and finally enjoying the sun on the cay. After the snorkel, we kayaked back to the vans, packed up and headed to Fortune Bay Beach and lunch at the Banana Bay Cafe (try the conch fritters and banana bread!). We spent the next hour eating, playing in the surf, and hunting for conchs in the shallows. It was the picturesque Bahamanian beach experience as scene from countless Conde Nest magazines!

Overall, the experience was priceless, but the only reason for not giving Calabash a 5-star rating was the organization of the trip. Our group was 10 people and we thought there should have been an additional guide in the snorkeling. One could have led the group and another could have followed the group to help with slower swimmers. Our youngest son got a little scared because of the rough waters and the guide stayed with him but at the cost of not being able to lead the stronger swimmers into some better snorkeling areas. Also, should have pushed the use of life vests more as it seemed to be completely up to the swimmer.

Overall would book with them again as the Peterson Cay and Fortune Bay Beach experiences were awesome.

“Exceeded expectations!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 24, 2014 via mobile

We found Calabash Eco Adventures on Trip Advisor and read excellent reviews. We booked a kayak/snorkel excursion with just a small deposit and quick responses to emails. Confirmation email was very informative.
Got off the ship in Freeport and a port worker directed us to the side and called Shamie to let us know where we were waiting. He came and informed us that due to weather that we couldn't kayak and snorkel. However he offered to take us on another tour he was doing that day including sightseeing, hiking, snorkeling in a blue hole, and going through national park. We decided to go for it and it was an awesome day!
Shamie and Ansenio were very knowledgeable and gave lots of history and stories about the island. They were helpful with the snorkeling and hiking to the caves. They made it very fun and interesting for our boys, ages 9 and 11. And it was enough activity and also restful by walking the beach. Would love to go back and do the kayak/snorkel excursion.
