“Gorgeous boutique hotel, but no pelicans.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 11, 2013

I stayed at the Pelican bay Resort for 3 nights and had a great experience. I stayed in a suite that had 2 beds in the bedroom along with 2 flat screen tv's and the neatest cappucinno and espresso maker. the suite was huge and had an old island rustic charm about it. Not only clean and spacious but the beds were amazingly plush and the view was extrodinary. the balcony is overlooking a canal and it was a joy to see speedboats, yachts and tourboats scooting up and down the waterway. the bathroom has an overhead faucet in the shower that was a unique touch. there are 3 pools and my suite was next to an infinity pool with swim up bar that overlooked the bay. simply gorgeous! the staff was helpful and polite and there is a really cute restaurant right on the water. It is very private and you can drive right up to your door and park. The only thing i didnt like was that there was no room service, that is really annoying when you want to sleep in and dont want to have to bother going out for food. Overall it made for a great experience on Grand Bahama Island.

Pelican Bay was absolutely beautiful! It has a very tropical setting with several pools and places to walk. The location on the canal is perfect and it is right across the street from gorgeous, clear blue beach access. It is also within walking distance to Port Lucaya, which has many restaurants and shops. The suite that I stayed in was like a mini apartment and was very roomy. I loved the balcony and the view of the sunrise! The staff was incredibly helpful and kind. Ms. Evans in particular was so welcoming and made me feel right at home. Her kindness and willingness to assist with anything I needed was exemplary. I would definitely recommend this resort and cannot wait to vacation here again!

The hotel sits on a canal. The grounds are beautiful. The location is very close to the market place. The only problems we really had, we requested rooms on the ground floor. We were told there were no rooms available. For us, location is key. We were on the 3rd floor. It was not ideal for us. The other problem is that the floors were filthy. Don't try walking barefoot in the rooms. Our feet were black from the dirt on the floors. We made this information known to the hotel staff. Hoping this is resolved before our next trip in the Fall.

Room Tip: Ask for a bottom floor with a view of one of the pools, near the canal. There are many rooms that m...

On the advice of a Bahamian friend, my husband and I stayed at Pelican Bay at Lucaya from 1/14 thru 1/16. What a great place for a quiet, secluded getaway! The staff could not have been nicer, we had a lovely suite, and the pool was lovely and serene. Right adjacent to the hotel is Sabor restaurant, serving excellent food and great cocktails! The hotel is just a few minutes walking distance from the Lucaya marketplace, and just adjacent to all of the tour boat facilities.

Room Tip: Corner suites are large and sunny, and have a great view of the bay.

Whenever I have to travel to Freeport I always stay at Pelican Bay Resort. The staff is very freidnly and always helpful. The rooms are clean and quaint. The location is perfectly situated for much needed relaxation yet close enought to shopping, dining, and sunbathing. A launch is even available to take you to the beach. Be sure to ask for "the package deal" so you can also enjoy their breakfasts.

I normally don't write negative reviews and this does not reflect on my overall great experience in Grand Bahama. Let me start by saying that this is a beautiful resort in a great location. It has free transportation to a beautiful beach (Taino beach) and it is a 5 minute walk to the Port Lucaya market place. Our room (Water view suite) was very clean and comfortable and we had good maid service. What I found to be negative and incomprehensible was the apathetic attitude of the front desk and restaurant staff. It was like everyone that worked there hated their jobs and didn't want to be there. If I had wanted poor service I would have stayed at a Holiday Inn....right?. On our last night there was a guy on a red Honda dirt bike riding wheelies and driving at high speeds through the hotel parking lot, and the follwing morning, said dirt bike was parked right next to our elevator. Real classy joint...real classy! However, after being on the island for a few days, I found this to be the general attitude of the population (It is what it is), but for a few exceptions. Other than that, we had a wonderful time. We spent lots of time at the beach swimming and sunning. We went on a great snorkeling tour followed by a BBQ on a remote beach on the "Bahama Mama" catamaran. We ate some wonderful food and shopped at the Port Lucaya Market Place. They also had a fabulous fireworks show on New Year's eve. We went to the Junkanoo Parade in downtown Freeport on New Years day and it was a wonderful experience. Some of our favorite restaurants were...1) Zorba's Greek Restaurant (ate there about 5 times, try the lobster tail for your evening meal and gyros for lunch, you won't be dissapointed) 2) Agave Latin fusion (very nice food) 3) Cappucino's Italian restaurant (very nice atmosphere and delicious food) 4) Taino by the Sea (Outdoor cafe on Taino beach and it is a great place for lunch if you are spending the day at the beach). We dined at the "Flying Fish Restaurant" one evening and found the gourmet food to be delicious, but the portions were small and it was very expensive ($220 for two people). On our last night on the island we went across the street to the Grand Lucayan and dined at "Churchills Restaurant". The food and the service were excellent! If we ever go back to this island I believe we will stay at the Grand Lucayan where the customer service is AWESOME!. If you need taxi service I recommend a guy named Tyrone, owner of Taxi #78. This guy has such a great attitude and he has alot of knowledge about the history of the island and what to do and see. Anyways, I hope this review helps you and that you have a wonderful time on the island as we did.

Room Tip: The "Water view suite" is nice and has a separated bedroom, living room, kitchenette, and...

Thank you Eleanor once again for your excellent service and outstanding customer care.
Our daughter and her 8 friends (first time to the Bahamas) appreciated your special Bahamian kindness and hospitality.Your help has made a significant impact on her friends and I'm sure they also will become frequent Pelican Bay visitors, as we have for the last 15 years.
It is always a pleasure to see you and the staff at Pelican Bay!
