We happened along this place because we were posted up kitty corner to Tony Macaroni's - we were trying to get away from the super touristy part of the beach. After getting thirsty, we headed up (it's a tiny, super casual place with outdoor/open air seating and a great view of the ocean) and and noticed they had all sorts of conch dishes, which we had been wanting to try. Not only did we get a conch salad - we got a live demo of the chef making it - in the kitchen! They invited the three of us back to the kitchen area and we saw him make the salad from beginning (taking the conch out of it's shell) to end. It was such a fun, unexpected experience!! We had been considering paying to go to a cooking demo/lesson just a bit down the beach for $30 per person, but got this private demo for free. And, free conch shell with purchase - awesome!

DEFINITELY RECOMMEND!

We arrived at Freeport on the last day of our cruise. My girls would not even get off the boat because of the way the port looked. The rest of my family (husband, two sons, mom, dad, brother, and mate) got a cab to the beach. The beach left much to be desired. The water was nasty and it had a fowl odor. We were not expecting this because the other two islands we stopped at were beautiful (with crystal clear water). The taxi driver dropped us off at ...I don't eeven remember the name of the place. Then out of no where a guy comes over and tells us that his drinks are cheaper, so my brother and I just had to go try it out. I had the best drink ever. My group and I moved down the beach and hung out until the rain came and it was time to board the ship. We all had a great time. I would recomend that if you are ever in Freeport Bahamas to try Tony Macoroni's.

Freeport (Port Lucaya) as a cruise destination may sometimes be considered one of the lesser desirable ports because there is not as much to do. However, there is alot to be said for not being so populated with tourist venues! We tumbled upon Tony's open air restaurant by sheer accident...actually it was purely perfect! We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and the delicious conch that Tony cooked in his open air kitchen. As a Westerner, it can take you aback to have your cook sit down and sample his own creation with you! But, that is what makes Bahamian style so different! Tony is proud to be a Bahamian and he likes to cook and he likes to mingle. The whole vibe from food to atmosphere is one of no pretenses or formalities. It is a true dip into Bahamian aunthenticity. And honestly, that is hard to find these days in many places in the Bahamas. While we were there, a couple came by to say hello to Tony because they had fond memories of being at his place 12 years ago! I was very impressed by that... perhaps when we want to escape our every day lives, a meal or a day at Tony Macaroni's might just be what the doctor ordered!

Best Conch salad, best cracked conch, best goombay smash. And it's literally a deck on the beach. Awesome time had by all.
