We just got back from our family vacation (myself, hubby, son, 11 yrs and daughter 5yrs) on 10/18 from a 5 night, 6 day vacation at Atlantis Resort and we stayed at the Coral Towers. A week before, we emailed Sandra from Fergies Taxis to see if there was any availablilty for the time we arrived, which there was. When we got out of the airport her son Wesley was there holding up a sign with my name on it! Very great first impression! Wesley was very informative and told us lots of things about the island and Atlantis. He also gave us a few tips on where to visit and eat. On the way to the resort we asked him to stop at a grocery store so we could buy water, soda and sunscreen (which i couldn't believe i forgot to pack!!!) Prices in Nassau are expensive, so be prepared! I has done my research and read a lot of reviews so i knew what to expect. A case of water cost $12.99 a 12 pack soda cost $8.49 and one can of sunscreen cost $13.99!!!! Highway robbery!!! BUT, it was much cheaper at the grocery store than on the resort! Wesley then took us to our hotel and we arranged for him to pick us back up on our departure day. Check in was a breeze, we were on the 10th floor with a view of the resort and ocean. It was breathtaking! We loved waking up to it every morning! The room was a decent size, 2 double beds, a balcony with 2 chairs and a small table, and a nice bathroom. You could tell it was an older building but our floor was very well taken care of. The maids came veryday to clean our room and provide freah towels. Before we arrived i had requested a fridge to put my daughter's meds in. They gave it to us free of charge, otherwise it would normally cost $15 per day. There was a mini bar fully stocked but we did not use it. The resort itself was beautiful. Everyone we encountered was so friendly and welcoming and really appreciated us being there. The grounds were so well kept and everywhere you looked there's plenty of marine life, greenery and lagoons to look at. There were also plenty of pools to choose from, we were spoilt for choice! We loved all of the waterslides, my son especially enjoyed the one where you end up in the shark tank and all the sharks swim around you! Defintely awesome! The beaches were gorgeous with torquoise colored water and white sand. We ventured out of the resort twice. The first time was to visit the zoo and the straw market. We also ate at the "fish fry" Twin Brothers Restaurant where we tried conch for the firt time - it was so delicious! The second time was to Blue Lagoon Island for the Dolphin Encounter. If you can't do anything else, i recommend you do this. It's a once in a lifetime experience. We were able to get into the water with a dolphin and dance, hug, kiss and play with him! My whole family enjoyed every second and it was worth the money ($98 each) Afterwards we went onto the private beach (which was an upgrade and an additional cost) There were water inflatables like slides, trampoline and a see saw! Lunch was included and it was good! There is also a bar and gift shop on the island. The Blue Lagoon beach was beautiful and not very busy with people, which was wonderful. It was about a 30 min boat ride from the ferry terminal by the bridge to Blue Lagoon, but the ride was nice and soothing.
The restaurants on the resort were pricey. but again, to be expected. Most were closed due to the off season but we did get to eat in the Marina Village at Murray's Deli and Johnny Rockets, but our favorite by far was Bimini Road, - we loved, loved, loved it!!! The food was so fresh and tasty, we had never had anything like it!!! We also ate at Anthony's a couple of time which is less than a 5 minute walk from the hotel. It also had a Dunkin Donuts next to it. We brought granola and cereal bars for breakfast, as well as snacks and ordered lunch poolside at one of the many food stands, which were reasonaly priced. The resort is cashless, so you pay with your room key - make sure you check your balance every night on your tv. There is a Starbucks in the basement of the hotel, as well as a Tween and Teen "Nightclub" called CRUSH! My son got to go there one night and told us it was awesome! The Dig aquarium was amazing, plenty of different fish to see and best of all it was free! There are also stores like Gucci and Versace in the hotels and i liked that the Beach, Coral and Royal Towers hotels connected. Wifi was $20 per day, but you get 20 mins free each day in the library which is between the Coral and Beach Tower hotels. This was a bonus to me because i didn't opt for an international data plan.
The reason why i didn't give this review 5 stars is because smoking is allowed in a majority of places inside and outside of the hotels and grounds. In order to get to the other side of the Royal Towers you need to walk through a smoke-filled casino, which i didn't like doing. Hopefully they will make plans to change that. The other thing that we encountered everyday were the vistors from the cruise ships that spend a day on the resort. We came during the off season so there weren't alot of people there, but once they came on to the resort, you could definitely tell. Most of them didn't have the same sense of appreciation for the island as we did. Apart from those 2 things, our vacation was unforgettable.
On our last day we were able to store our luggage with the bell hop while we spent one last time admiring the views! As promised, Wesley arrived on time to take us to the airport. Fergie's Taxis were our number one choice and we definitely picked the right company. We were so sad to leave. but already know that we will be back again in the near future. I recommend this place to everyone, young and old!! There is plenty to do and i promise you won't regret it!! Next year a new resort, Baha-Mar will be opening, and will definitely give Atlantis a run for their money, which will hopefully mean discounts for us! LOL!
