“A more relax local design / craftsman items shopping place compare to Straw Market.”

Bahama Craft Centre
Attraction details

Three days after we bought about 10 items from Straw Market (SM), we still managed to buy several items from Bahama Craft Center (BCC). I feel there are about 10 - 20 % of local design items from BCC I didn't found in SM. Certainly, I also feel there are about 10 - 20% products from SM I don't see in BCC either. So, there are advantage shopping in between the two places. In general, I feel more relax shopping in BCC even though sellers from BCC also come over to convince you to buy their stuff when you get close to their counter. Most of the items in BCC are negotiable. BCC is not as crowded as SM.

A seller from one of the BCC counter offer us she can stitch our names into the straw baskets with no additional charge (She could likely be Dorothea who was mentioned from the previous reviewer). Unfortunately, we already bought 2 baskets from SM before we shop BCC, Otherwise, even if we already bought a straw basket before, we could have buy another one from her.

BCC is about 3-4 minutes walk from Comfort Suite and about 5 minutes walk from Atlantis Coral Tower entrance which is right at the interception of Shoppers Mall Rd and Harbour Rd behind Scotiabank. It is a two building center with about 15 - 20 sellers. Visitors who stay in Paradise Island for 4-5 days could easily visit BCC twice during their trip.

After visiting the Straw Market in Nassau and getting claustrophobic, overheated, tired of every salesperson verbally attacking me, and then not buying a thing and just wanting to get out, the Bahama Straw Market was a delightful change of scenery and pace with a spacious and light building and friendly salespeople, not nearly as frenetic. They had essentially the same types of items that were selling in Nassau, too. I went back twice to buy more souvenirs and keepsakes! Dorothea (in the center area) was so pleasant and she made every effort to genuinely make us happy. She stitched names into our straw baskets while we waited and even offered to restring a necklace of stones into 2 bracelets for me. She was extremely fair on pricing after we bartered a bit. I personally liked the earrings and rings carved out of coconut shells - people comment on them every time I wear them.
I wholeheartedly recommend the Bahama Craft Center if you are visiting Paradise Island or Nassau. It's located right across the bridge from Nassau and across the street from Marina Village and the building is painted in many shades of pastels. They are open every day from 9-6.
