“What a dissappoinment!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 17, 2012

This was our fifth stay at the Atlantis, second at the Cove. It's been our annual sisters trip. The first time we stayed at the Cove in 2009, we had no complaints. This time it was a totally different story! The staff was downright rude and could have cared less about the service they provided. Every request we made, had to be made several times and most times we did not get it anyways. Our room was on the 16th floor. Staff left cleaning supplies in our room one night, we only got turn down one out of four nights, once got the nightly bottled water. We found the Cascades pool to be very dirty and staff gathered there speaking loudly each day for hours! Overall we just felt that we were inconveniencing them! There was no huge issue like I have read on other negative reviews here just overall mediocrity. So disappointing and such a let down.

Finally on our third day, we spoke to a manager named Sean who seemed very attentive to our concerns and promised to look into it and touch base before we left. Surprise, he did not! The best service we received was when we left the Atlantis property all together. For the first time, on our last night we discussed trying somewhere else next year. To me, a hotel like the Cove can only thrive if it's service is exceptional. The Cove's service no longer is. I know the whole property is under new ownership and it has hurt the service. The new large resort going up closer to the airport is going to do them in if it can offer better service. Save your money!

Loved our ocean-view suite on the 17th floor. Had a terrific view of the entire property and beach. The finishes in the resort or beautiful marble EVERYWHERE. Found the staff friendly, even off-duty. Mosaic restaurant had terrific food, but as many people mentioned before, food was very expensive everywhere.

Tip: Have your taxi driver stop by the supermarket before you cross the bridge to pick up drinks, breakfast items, snacks on you way to the resort. You can request the concierge to send up a small refrigerator to your room at no charge.

Room Tip: The higher the floor the better of course. If you have a sensitivity to noise (during the day) you...

We just returned from a 4 night stay at the Cove. This was our first time at Atlantis and our 5th visit to the Bahamas.

Overall, by first appearances the resort is massive, almost intimidating. If you're looking for a small resort, do not even think about it. The difficulty we encountered was that we sort of had to navigate everything ourselves. We had a map and all, but it would have been helpful to have had a bell captain or concierge give you a brief tour. Especially being our first time there, little nuances like the wrist bracelets etc. would have been nice.

The dining options are by far and away the best part of Atlantis. HOWEVER, book as early as humanly possible. We did not eat at any of the non-reservation required restaurants. If you do want to eat at a nicer location, please be sure to book early. What perplexed us though was even when we could not get earlier reservations, we'd walk into the restaurant and find plenty of open tables. I never got a good explanation on that one. We ate at Nobu, Casa D'Angelo, the Bahamian Club and Chop Stix. All great food quality and decent service.

The room was very nice however did smell like cigarette smoke. As a smoker, this did not bother me. The halls also do smell of smoke. If you do not like the smell, you might have some issues here. Lots of smoking everywhere...remember you're not in the US anymore.

The pool situation is nice, but chaotic. We generally stayed as the Cascades pool in the Cove. The Cain Pool (adults only) is like watching a Vegas/Cancun-style pool. While it might be adults only, the only adults there are only so because of their age. Lots of wanna bes and fools running around. The Cascades pool is just fine if you can tolerate the presence of children. I generally have a problem with them, but they were all behaved for the most part.

Overall, the best way to describe Atlantis is Vegas in the Bahamas. The size of the resort is massive and the style is different from area to area. I would recommend it to families, however if you're a couple looking for a quite few days away, I wouldn't do it.

Room Tip: Odd numbered rooms over the 3rd floor in the Cove get you a nice water view of the actual Cove.

Wonderful adult get-a-way ... I had read the food was very expensive and yes it was. We did have our taxi driver stop on the way to Atlantis at a liquor store and were able to buy several bottles of wine and some crown for the 5 days we were there. The rooms were wonderful, and we thoroughly enjoyed the Cain Pool. Maid service was excellent and you were left two bottles of water every morning and every evening. We loved watching the cruise ships come in each day out our balcony and slept with the sliding door opened each night. Loved the Mosaic buffett but be prepared for two adults to eat with no alcohol it was $135.00.

Room Tip: The Cove on a higher floor (we were on 18) overlooking the cruise port was nice and quiet.

We were forturnate to score an Ocean view room on the 16th floor. Hurricane Sandy has just passed so we had lots of wind and cooler temps than we would have liked. The hotel overall is outstanding and the water experiences from slides, snorkeling and the Dolphin encounter are fantastic. The price of food and water is ridiculous!! I recommend this hotel for at least one visit!!

We stayed 4 nights 5 days in February - my husband and I and our 20 year old son. Our room on the 11th floor was perfect- the food, the pools the people, the waterslides -we had the meal plan and the $2,000 I won in the casino paid foray extras - a great trip - we will be back

We stayed at The Cove in October 2012 for 3 nights as part of quick diving trip. When booking online through the Atlantis website they take a deposit (I believe 50%?) then as your vacation get's closer they send you emails that assist you in booking your restaurant reservations and other activities while you are there. A few weeks prior to the trip they take the remainder of the room price on your credit card on file.

Upon exiting the airport in Nassau there are cabs available, some of which have signs and take credit cards. Our experience with the cabs in Nassau were that they were all very clean and professional the entire time, no exception on the cabs at the airport. You can also book private pickup (expensive) through the Atlantis. Make sure to pre-arrange the price for the cab before you get in, there are no meters. we paid 40$ from the airport to the Atlantis and the ride was approx 20-30 minutes. FYI American dollars are excepted on par everywhere for Bohemian dollars, no need to convert any cash.

On arrival at the Cove they grab your bags and direct you to check-in. Check in is smooth and they verify your ID's and take a credit card for incidentals. I would be sure to bring an actual credit card as most hotels do not like taking debit cards for incidentals. After check-in they take you to your room with your bags.

The rooms at the Cove are really very nice and spacious. They have a stocked mini-bar, balcony with chairs, good electronics and a very large bathroom. No complaints about the rooms themselves during our stay other than the mini-bar re-stocking was very slow and non-existent at times.

Pool: during our stay we referred to the pool as "Club Cove" as it is rowdy with DJ music, scantily clad waitresses, plenty of drinking and fun. At around noon/1pm they start up the music, casino area and booze and people at this pool drink hard all day. Keep in mind this is the adults only pool at the Cove, limited to Cove patrons only. We are younger so we found this amusing and fun, but it might be a stretch if you don't like to party.

General grounds: The Atlantis is a true mega resort. There is casino, aquariums, tons of kid friendly outdoor water parks, a marina, shopping and the list just goes on. My only feedback here would be that you should see the aquarium, it is really impressive. Also to get around at night if you don't feel like walking far across the resort there are cabs and limos right outside the entrance that will ferry you to other parts of the Atlantis for 10$. Worth it if you are going to dinner on the other side of the resort and do not want to walk.

Food: Food was generally excellent at the high-end restaurants but very expensive. We ate at Nobu, Mesa Grill and Sea Fire steakhouse. All three were very good (delicious in fact) but out favorite was the Sea Fire grill in the marina area. Get the mashed potatoes. Dinner at each with drinks was routinely 200$-250$ for a couple with appetizers, sides, mains and drinks. If you do want to utilize the high end restaurants try to book them before you travel as they do fill up. We also ate at the Cove bar several times and all in all the resort food is solid across the board.

Everything was really quite good, well managed and the staff were excellent. The price for the product in this case is a little skewed @500 room/nt (non peak) then when you pile on incidentals we spent $500/day on lunch, dinner, drinks and misc. The value aspect is the only reason I'm not giving 5 out of 5. If you have the cash to spend and it's disposable this is still a great place.

Room Tip: The higher rooms have full balconies
