“Just returned - Atlantis - Royal Towers, Pools, Beaches”
Reviewed April 10, 2014

We just returned home from our 6 night stay at the Atlantis. We were there as part of a sales award trip for hubby, so we had some planned events, dinners, etc. to attend, but we also had a lot of free time.

ROOM: Royal Towers East, Harbor View, 16th Floor. The room was clean, a little dated, but nothing to complain about. When we arrived, they had us in a double room. We asked to be moved to a King and our request was granted with no problem.

ATLANTIS: This is a HUGE property. Be prepared to walk...a lot. No matter where you stay, you will inevitably find that something you want to do is on the other end of the property. Don't stress. Enjoy the walk...look around a bit, enjoy the sights.

POOLS: Pre-trip, I read a lot about people needing to go reserve pool chairs early in the morning. We did not experience this at all. Most days we didn't even try to find a chair until noonish. Yes, there are a lot of cruise ship passengers on site. No, it's not really a problem.

BEACHES: We spent most of our time at Cove Beach. One day we ventured over to Atlantis Beach, but were overcome by cigar smoke (and people selling cigars, flutes, hair braiding, etc.) and headed back over to Cove Beach. Never had a problem finding a beach chair at CB. This is a blessing and a curse...so many chairs on the beach make it seem crowded. On the other hand, we always had a chair. Pick your poison.

FOOD: Make reservations if you can before you go. If you can't get a ressie, don't give up. We were told Mesa Grill was booked, but we chanced it and walked over there. They seated us immediately and we had the best meal of our trip. Yes, the breakfast buffet is expensive ($32 pp), but it has a TON of food. Some days we ate breakfast, small snack during the day (are Pina Coladas considered a snack?), and then had dinner. Plenty of food options here at varying price points.

PEOPLE: I had read many reports of the staff being rude. We didn't have that experience at all. They were extremely nice, helpful, etc. Maybe in some instances you get what you give. Smile...be friendly....you'll get it back, I promise. The only extremely rude people we ran into on the entire trip were 2 ladies working TSA upon our departure...I mean, EXTREMELY rude.

OVERVIEW: Had a great trip. Don't know if I'll ever return since there are so many places to visit in our great world, but I'm glad I had this experience.

We stayed in The West Tower. The resort was fully booked and at maximum capacity, so it was an extremely busy time. However, the management of the safety in the water slides and lazy river was admirable and on a few occasions we saw lifeguards launch themselves into the water to assist struggling swimmers and we were impressed by their enthusiasm and assistance given. For those who don't like to stand in line: remember you are on vacation, so enjoy the views and breathe in the sea air! Relax. It can be crowded when the passengers from the cruise ships arrive, but this is to be expected as its an amazing water park.

To be frank, breakfast was a riot. Literally! There were so many families with very hungry children that it became a very noisy environment. Ask for a seat outside on the patio as it can be quieter there.

Our room had not been refurbished, but this was reflected in the room rate.
We stayed for two nights prior to joining a scuba dive livebaoard and then at the end of the dive vacation stayed in the adult-only, Cove. If you want a quieter part of the resort away from families, then stay there as its very relaxing.

Room Tip: ask for a room on as hugh a floor as possible to make the most of the views.

At first this resort may appear overwhelming, but once you get your bearings, you realize that it has something for everyone whether you are a child or adult. From the many different pools to the ocean a small walk from your tower to the outdoor slides and activities - you will never be bored here! And, in the evening when you want to unwind, you can relax in the casino, take in a movie, take a stroll around the marina and check out the massive yachts and get an ice cream cone at Ben & Jerry's.

Yes, this resort is big so you will do lots and lots of walking - but for an active family or couple, this shouldn't be a problem. You will want comfy sneakers!

There are lots and lots of meal choices. You don't really need to choose the dining options if you want flexibility and honestly, I'm not sure those meal deals are a real value anyway. All of the dining options were good. We chose mostly casual options like the deli at the Marina, Johnny Rockets or even the pizza parlor. We did try the buffet and it was fresh and they had a great selection of food. We also had our driver visit the grocery store after she picked us up at the airport. We purchased all sorts of snacks, bottled water and even liquor as those little things add up quickly on property.

The dolphin cay experience was fantastic and all my daughter spoke about! We did the swim with the sea lion experience and I would do it again in a heartbeat - well worth the $$$. Don't forget to get pictures of this expereince - again it's expensive (we paid $100 for the CD with all of our photos) but SO WORTH IT.

Room Tip: We chose the Royal Towers because of all of the reviews I read on Trip Advisor. It's location i...

This is the 9th time we have visited the Atlantis over the years and it is my happy place! Since our last visit in October, they have spent much time and effort on TLC, repairing worn areas throughout the property, upgrading the rooms etc. While we have always found the staff pleasant, this time we felt an overall warmth and welcome everywhere we turned. We tend to stay in the east towers of the Royal Towers and it never fails to please! The rooms are large, the grounds are absolutely beautiful, you can spend time in the various pools (choose the ones where music is playing, or find the quiet, tranquil ones), ride the Current or Lazy River, walk the beach, swim in the ocean, enjoy wonderful meals in the many restaurants, win or lose money in the casino and walk along the marina admiring the floating homes from around the world. I can't say enough about the Atlantis - we eventaully are planning a full family vacation there.

I was a bit skeptical of our Spring Break choice because of a lot of negative reviews on here. But we thought it was great! Beautiful grounds, cool aquatic exhibits, lovely beaches (especially Paradise & Cove beaches), fun water slides, my kids loved CRUSH, comfy beds and we had great service from everyone we encountered. Wait for the cruisers to leave and hit the water slides from 4-7pm and there's no wait.

I went with my two kids, ages 8 & 11. They thought it was the best trip ever & can't wait to go back. I will say that I'd probably choose a different destination if traveling with adults only (I prefer smaller, lower key places to big resorts). But this is a fun choice for families!

Room Tip: We liked the West tower. Closer to Aquaventure, beach, spa, kids' club. Further from casino so...

Just returned from spring break with wife and two kids. Overall mediocre at best. Service is not good. Staff seem very disinterested. This place seems to be declining fast. There will not be a return for us. I wS very disappointed that cruise ship passengers are able to buy day passes to come and use pools etc.

We arrived in the Bahamas on March 16th and were promptly picked up by our pre-arranged transfer and taken to the Royal towers. Check in was slow, but the people we dealt with were very friendly and polite. We were early for check in, so we checked our bags and went to find some lunch. We ate at the Dive-in where we had a snack. When we returned to the lobby we could go to our room.
The room was magnificient, view was amazing, balcony was great. We had no problems AT ALL with our room. I liked the feel of the king sized bed, my husband was uncomfortable. Usually, we like the same firmness. It was a 2 room suite, so the teens had a place to sit, while we were in the bedroom. The view of the ocean and the resort were spectacular. TV's in every room, including the bathroom. Our housekeeping staff were very good. Pleasant when you saw them in the hall and offered answers to questions when we had them.

Our first meal at the Marketplace buffet was mediocre. For the price, (and we had the meal plan) it was less than fabulous. The house wines, which cost extra, were poor. That day we realized it was Spring break for US colleges. There were drunk 18-20 year olds everywhere. When we went to the beach before dinner, there was garbage and towels all over the beach. It was like these young people hung out there, threw their garbage wherever they wanted and then left, en masse, leaving their towels and everything else for someone to clean up. It was disappointing, seeing we were paying a lot to be there and it was such a mess. The smell of gasoline from the jet skis was also very strong and difficult to avoid. the sales people were good, though. They asked you once if you were interested in renting, and that was it.

The breakfast buffet was much better the next day and every day we were there. Tons of fresh fruit, omelettes to die for, lots of variety. It was really good. So, because the meal plan is only for breakfast and dinner, we loaded up at breakfast, not eating too early and were able to last until dinner. Twice we ate at Murray's Deli, because the food was so good and you could get a good hot meal served to you. They had NY Steak dinners, 1/2 chicken dinner and other meals included on our meal plan overflowing with food, which also included an enormous sized dessert. Very good. The second time we were there, some college kids came in, carrying their own beers, were seated right near us and were really loud and inconsiderate. Their orders for drinks were taken, and I was surprised no one asked them for ID. Some of those kids looked 17. We left as quickly as we could.

Pools were lots of fun and we were always able to find loungers. We don't really care about positioning, so we were satisfied, although lots of people would leave their things on the loungers and not return for hours at a time. Because of this, it was hard to find an umbrella to protect from the sun, but otherwise it was fine. The slides and water activities were really great, sometimes had long lines, but it understandable due to the size of the resort. The system to pick up beach towels is outdated and really slow. Why we had to get new wrist bands every day and have them log in our room # into a really lagging computer is beyond me. There is technology that is better than this. People could have bar coded bands for the duration of their stay that could be easily scanned. This really needs to be improved.

Except for the incident on the beach, the resort was well maintained and reasonably clean. There were regular check points, especially in the evening, checking to make sure people were actually staying at Atlantis. ( many outside hotels sell access passes to use the pools, etc, plus cruise ships do tours and have access to the pools as well).

We used the bar in the Royal Tower each night. (Platos) On our first night it was flooded with these college kids, drinking heavily and smoking. We are spoiled not having to deal so much with cigarette smoke here in Canada. This was difficult to deal with. They also had a nice outdoor area where there were fireplaces and other comfy chairs to sit it. It wasn't as loud, and definitely wasn't as smokey. Again, I was disappointed in the white wines. There wasn't much that I liked, so I switched to something else.

Crush-we had 2 teens with us who went to Crush for two evenings. They had a good time playing video games and being away from their parents for a few hours. Casino- was good, again pretty smokey. We spent some time there, but not a lot.

Overall the trip was really good. The weather was spectacular, barely a drop of rain. I do not recommend going over to the straw market, unless you like all that crap made in China and sold as authentic goods. There are hundreds of stalls, most of whom are all selling the same things. A waste of time. we used the ferry, which you pay 8 dollars return for, then they get some poor unfortunate telling you about Nicholas Cage's property that is for sale along the canal and a few other mildly interesting facts, and then he wants a tip because this is how he earns his living.
The airport has been totally renovated and is very nice. They haven't built up the shopping area and there is duty free for alcohol and a little cologne booth. there is a Wendy's in the main area before checking in with your airline but after security there is only Dunkin Donuts,if you want food. There is a kiosk to buy a drink and chips or candy and last minute souveniers, but not much else. We only stayed 4 nights, but I would have enjoyed a day or two more. the weather and the atmosphere were perfect (excluding the drunk teens who seemed to thin out by our 2nd night) and it was a great holiday after such a long winter.

Room Tip: We were in the West tower, 12th floor. It was great. We have stayed in the Beach tower, MANY years...
