“Beautiful facility / very expensive food”
Reviewed April 9, 2012

The Atlantis is gorgeous. We stayed at the Royal Towers which seems to be the 'middle' property, cost wise. Beach and Coral Towers are older, but beautifully redone. The Cove is the newest facility and more high end with a private beach and pool. All of the properties at the Atlantis have access to the many pools, beautiful beach, great water slides etc. Upside - it's a terriffic family place with lots to do. Downside - the food is very expensive whether you choose one of their breakfast / dinner food plans or not. Atlantis owns all of the food options, even in the Marina Village so unless you are getting in a cab to go to Nassau, they have you trapped for their food prices. Quality is fine, but a 15% gratuity is added to everything - even in their buffets where the only assistance us bringing soft drinks etc. One other downside - the Atlantis offers packages to cruise ship passengers who can use their beaches, pools, and slides with a day pass. It can be very, very crowded on some days with people hording rafts etc. Bottom line, beautiful family place, but be prepared to pay.

We just got back from a 6 day vacation to the Royal Towers Imperial Club at the Atlantis, Bahamas. My overall experience is that it is a nice resort, the kids had a blast, the Imperial Club was worth the extra money, the prices are EXTREMELY steep and it is a once in a lifetime experience. Having done the trip once, I wouldn't go back.

Hotel: We stayed at the Imperial Club at the Royal Towers. The extra money for the Imperial Club was worth it. We got first-class service at check-in, and were able to stay in the Imperial Lounge, eating lovely salads and cooling off, until our room was ready. There is a continental breakfast every morning, which is very nice, and saved us the bother and expense of breakfast out.
Happy hour, with free drinks, and the evening desserts seemed to be big hits with the guests. Also, there were two computer terminals in the lounge which allowed us to check our emails with no problem.
As far as the room, it was a nice hotel room, nothing extra special. The housekeeping service was good. We left our valuables in the safe during our stay and had no problem.

AquaAdventure: the water park is like no other water park I've ever seen. My two boys, 8 and 11, had a blast. It was very crowded some days, and every day you had to be at the pool by 9 am to get a chair at the pool nearest to the slides. The first day we were there, we made the mistake of getting to the pool at 11am. Not a lounge chair to be had anywhere.
The lifeguards seemed to be very alert, and the park staff were very pleasant. We felt comfortable letting our kids go off and play, provided that they checked in with us after each ride.
Also, there are two ping pong tables that our younger son loved to play at. The kids lined up to play whoever was champion.

Food: Count on food being at least twice as expensive as it would be at home. (And we live in the New York metro area, where prices are pretty high as it is.) A large bottle of water is $10.00, plus 15% gratuity tacked on to every single food purchase, be it fancy restaurant or fast food.
The dinner buffet at the Royal Towers cost $160.00 for two adults and two kids, without cocktails. It was a decent buffet, though.
Dinner at Bobby Flays restaurant and Nobu cost $350 each for the four of us. Ouch.

Dophin Cay: again, the price! $500 for the four of us, plus whatever photos you want to buy. Can't bring your own camera.
Sea Lion Experience: this was great! Even better than the dolphins. The sea lions are so much fun, and they interact with you. Our guide was funny and enthusiastic. If you have to choose between sea lions and dolphins, take the sea lions! No contest.

Finally, a cautionary word. Our youngest son had a minor medical emergency Friday evening. We tried to call the nurse on staff, but only got the answering machine. After finally getting throuh, we were told that the doctor had to see our son, but wouldn't be in until Saturday sometime. (Note the "sometime.") Our only other choice was to take our son to the hospital. We chose to contact our pediatrician at home, who was actually able to help us. Everything turned out okay, but it was a scare. I would recommend not getting sick at Atlantis.

Summary: Big fun, big prices, friendly staff (except for food servers, who looked either miserable or snooty), lots and lots to do. A great family trip if you like the sun, aren't on a budget and don't mind spending a stupid sum of money. Staying at the Imperial Club was well worth the extra price for the perks and great service.

Room Tip: If you stay in the Imperial Club, you get express elevators and miss the crowds in the lobby. The s...

We just left the Royal Towers after a three day stay. Disappointing in almost every respect. First, I found the staff unfriendly as a whole with just a few exceptions. Not one person went out of their way to help us figure anything out and that includes those few staff members who were not irritable--whether it was where to find tubes, empty chairs, restaurants with open reservations. I was not allowed to check in until 5 pm--this is after they lost my reservation and they tried to relocate me to a different tower--and I wasn't given any sort of apology, nor did anyone at the reception desk even point out that the transit lounge existed or help me figure out dinner plans for that night or give me tips of any sort while I waited. The safe in my room did not work and it was never fixed/replaced and the hallway noise was very loud. The place was packed, and as people have noted, not just with hotel guests. There were tons of day visitors (you can tell by the difference in wristbands). It was not unheard of to wait in line for 45 minutes to an hour for any of the slides, and the shortest wait was never less than 20 minutes. People were hoarding tubes and the staff did nothing to stop this, so you had to wait 20-30 minutes for a tube, then wait again for another 30 minutes or so in line for the ride. Our first morning I went to the pool at 8 am to reserve beach chairs and every single chair at the main pool was already taken! I asked a few of the pool staff in orange shirts if they could help me and they just shook their heads and said there was nothing they could do. On top of this, the food is outrageously priced and not great quality. I expected this trip to be expensive, but I assumed the food would at least be good, which it was not. We were only able to get reservations at a restaurant one of the nights we were there--should have made them ahead of time but no one told me when I made my reservation this would be a good idea, so we ate at the buffet restaurants most of the time ($50 per person for dinner!) Basically, it was frustrating to pay so much for shoddy service, terrible food and long, long lines...this is four seasons pricing with motel food/service. There was trash everywhere, too, and if you needed anything sent to your room you waited a long time to get it. Maybe the experience would be different in an off-peak time, but they certainly didn't rise to the challenge of a busy spring break. The rides are fun, and there is a lot to do and its a pretty hotel, but ask yourself how long you are willing to spend in line to do those things and how high your tolerance is for crowds.

First of all, the resort in general was gorgeous! The rooms and grounds were nicely kept, the staff was very helpful and personable. There were several different types of pools and the beach so you could pick a different one each day. There is a walking path that goes in front of the resort so you can get in a daily walk/run. Never had bad service at any of the restaurants or bars. There was entertainment nightly in the little lobby area (bar). They also changed all the beverages out in the mini bar to what we drank upon request, which was nice because the alcohol from the mini bar was cheaper than at the bars and restaurants downstairs. The only bad thing I really would say about the place is that they do charge you extra for every little thing and they add gratuity to every charge for drinks or food, even if there was no one serving you (like at the buffet).

Now as for what I would do differently, first, if you are trying to do this trip a little cheaper, I would not buy the meal plans. The meals can be done cheaper a lot of the times by just going to the places, unless you want an appetizer, meal and dessert per person at every meal. There were several times when we just wanted something small so we'd just go downstairs to the bar area and they were serving sandwiches, breakfast, yogurt, etc (ie, in the mornings). Second, I wouldn't necessarily stay in the royal tower but one of the cheaper ones. Granted we had a great view. I walked through the cheaper towers on my daily walks and the lobbies were just as nice and everything was connected. The resort isn't as spread out as it looks.

In all honesty, I think the resort was great, but as I dont' have kids and I'm not a big water park person, I'd probably stay somewhere else on Paradise Island next time and do a day pass to Atlantis.

This was our 3rd trip to Atlantis (Nassau) for spring break and while the rides are great, and the RT was a fine hotel, the place was way overcrowded. They have decided to let in cruise ships everyday (they didn't before---but bad economy, and over-extended on bldg. Dubai) and it's ridiculous!! People are hoarding rafts and you cannot find them for rides. Plus, the staff can't keep up with the messiness, and that's awful. Used to be they grounds were spotless (like WDW!), but now there's trash all over and it's gross. Who wants to pay a premium rate to stay on-site for such long lines, expensive food/drinks, trashy grounds, etc? We complained at check-out and got a credit of $100/day (very nice), but they didn't even blink when we told them about how the place has gotten much worse. Too $$$ for these hassles. We'd recommend going only at off-peak times.

I think I have mixed feelings about the Bahamas but the Atlantis makes it worthwhile. Its a fabulous hotel experience that you really need in the Bahamas where after beach time there really isn't much else to do. What better occasion to really take advantage of a hotel that has a lot to offer. This place also attracts a lot of celebrities including Michael Jordan and Wayne Gretzky! If thats an incentive ;) The pools are awesome and there are many options.

Here's the bottom line--if you read these reviews and don't understand going in that Atlantis is extremely expensive, then it's your own fault. You are going to pay a lot for everthing and, put bluntly, they don't need your business. That being said, the views, the service, the amount of things to do, frankly, everything, was just incredible. It is one of the few destinations that is truly awesome for all age ranges. We were there for 6 days and were finding new things on the last day. We can't get back there fast enough. Atlantis isn't for everyone though; if you are trying to do a vacation on a budget, go somewhere else, otherwise you will have a miserable time.

Room Tip: If you want to be in the middle of the action, book Royal Towers. If you want peace and quiet, book...
