Good place for families. Many activities for all ages at Atlantis which guests have full access too. Have been going each February for the last few years. Have been traveling to Paradise Island many times over the last 20+ years.

We looked at many reviews here and other sites to prepare for our stay at Harborside. Needless to say, proper planning and preparation made this an unforgettable, fabulous vacation. If you are not smart enough to do your homework before travelling out of the USA, then don't complain about it and insinuate its the property's fault.

My wife has a terminal case of travel addiction and did much of the prep work and research before we arrived in Nassau. We expected food to be expensive, especially after travelling to Aruba last year. Its an island people, they have to ship virtually everything in, so it will be expensive compared to your quiet hometown in the States. Pack simple snacks, some canned foods and other items in your extra suitcases. Most airlines allow you two bags at no charge for international travel and the empty room on return leaves space for souvenirs.

You will find prices for food, etc. to be less expensive the farther you can get from Tourist Central. That's just common sense, if you have travelled at all. The locals were extremely friendly and the hotel staff was hospitable and responsive. I prefer them to be in the background, but available when we need them. Harborside and Atlantis did this perfectly.

No need for a lot of clothes on this trip with a washer and dryer in your condo unit. Pack lightly, drink heavily, and relax. If you want a lot of coffee on your trip.....pack some. I preferred REAL CocaCola with sugar and RUM!!!!

DO the Dolphin Adventure for yourself AND the kids. At 46 years old, I had the time of my life. DO the waterslides. Soak it all in!!!! Its a Vacation in Paradise!!!!

We ARE returning next year with friends in tow.

It amazes me some of the negative reviews of Harborside at Atlantis. Our trip was March 20-27, 2009 and we had a great trip.
The staff were great as were the Bahamian people we encountered. Everyone made you feel welcome.
The pool at Harborside was great and we used it often, when we were not at the beach or Atlantis pools or waterslides, lazy rivers etc...
Yes, the food is expensive. It is an expensive place. If you did a little research you would know that in advance instead of being surprised and complaining later.
As for the unit, the room we had was number 3737 in building 2. It had a great view of the resort pool and bridge to Nassau, looking out over the harbor.
The Current is a great way to spend some time floating on a lazy river that you can't call lazy. It was full of rapids and waves and was simply fun.
The watersldes are waterpark quality and the muliple pools on property assure you that you can never be bored or have to look far for relaxation.
Took a water taxi over to Nassau and went to the Queen's Staricase and Fort Fincastle. Very much worth the walk to find it. The straw market was crowded with agressive vendors selling mostly cheap knock off purses. Not that impress with the straw market.
Local treats like conch fritters, conch salad and peas and rice were really good and inexpensive at Potter's Cay and the Fish Fry.
Walked to see the Cloisters and Versailles Gardens on a quiet Sunday morning and had the place almost to ourselves. It is beautiful.
Did not gamble but the large casino was impressive, as were the yatchs in the Marina.
Marina Village was an nice diversion with interesting shops and an overpriced Johnny Rockets.
In all our years of exchanges, this had to be the best ever. If a place like Atlantis can't please you, I'm guessing you either can't be pleased or were looking for something less glamourous and over the top.
We spent a week here and were never bored. Take advantage of the free shuttles around Atlantis properties if you get tired of walking, but do see all the towers and pools and take advantage of the free movies at the Atlantis theater.
There is a shuttle to a local grocery store where you can stock up on food, and at the end of the week, if you have any left, the staff will see it gets donated to a local children's home.
The grocery prices are high, but everything here has to be either flown or shipped in and that adds to the costs. Plus, they want to get all the tourists dollars they can.

We booked a 2 BR from an owner for $1,000 per night. We were traveling with 3 children (6, 3, & 3) and wanted a condo feel vs. a hotel.

UNINSPIRED SERVICE: We checked in expecting a warm reception from the front desk staff and attentive bell staff. After a day of airports, airplanes, taxis, and delays at customs, we were certainly eager to hear and see a friendly face and voice upon check in. Don't expect too much from these folks if you're used to staying at resorts that specialize is personal service. 9 out of 10 employees make you feel like you are at the DMV to renew your license when you ask them questions.

HARBORSIDE ROOMS: first we were booked into a room attached to the front desk / welcome center. I think it is bldg. 7. Clearly, this is a very old, tired, worn out building. The rooms in this building are similar to what 6 college guys would cram into during Spring Break at Daytona Beach in the 1980's. If you get booked into this building, request to be moved if you don't care for it.
However, after we requested to be moved, we were pleasantly surprised to see the difference b/w that building and the rest of the property. It was clean and newly renovated. Harborside certainly can't boast of any special unique experience, but if you are looking for a comfortable place to retreat after a long day it does the trick.

NEEDED AMENITIES -- if you are going to run a resort that wants to attract families and travelers, you need wireless somewhere in the rooms or at least the lobby. This was a downside.

We were there for a week and never saw a single housekeeping person. No trash or towel service ever stopped by. No replenishing of soap or shampoo so bring your own. I think they are supposed to but we didn't get it.

No Concierge -- to the best of our knowledge, there is no concierge at Harborside to assist with any questions, reservations, suggestions, etc.

GROCERIES -- be prepared to pay steep prices if you buy anything at the resort and if you jump in a taxi to go grocery shopping. $6 for a half-gallon of milk (not a gallon, but half-gallon) is basic profiteering and gouging. That is just an example.

We stayed Dec 10-15, 2008 in Building 3. They first took us to Building 6 which was really loud with boats coming in and out and that is why we moved to building 3. There is no view, but quiet meant a lot to us because we were traveling with our 3 year old. The rooms are nice, but not luxurious by any means. It met our needs by having a kitchen to do breakfast in as our 3 year old doesn’t give us much time in the morning to get ready to go out for breakfast. We also had our 19 year old son along and did the one bedroom unit. It was perfect for the 4 of us, but I wouldn’t go any more then 4. It was the upgraded unit that had the balcony. It was definitely more spacious then a regular hotel room, but again.. nothing over the top. I did love that you have a washer and dryer and the big tub was nice, but everything else was just pretty standard. If you don’t have a need for a condo type unit, my recommendation would be to stay in the Royal Towers which we stayed at 9 years ago OR the Cove, which is new since our last visit. I love modern/contemporary and that is exactly how the Cove is decorated. I didn’t see any rooms, but the location is awesome! Close to the gym, spa, dolphin cove and it has the Mesa grill in it.. Those were all things we hit during our stay. And they have there very own private pool and then a pool very close to it that is absolutely gorgeous! We also liked the beach area since the waters were calmer for our daughter. We found ourselves getting a shuttle to the Cove the majority of the time.

I am not totally high maintenance, but I do have reasonable expectations when staying at above average properties, which I do consider Harborside to be above average… The reasons below are why I didn’t give it a 5. Believe me, we didn’t let it ruin our fun.. we had an amazing time.. I don’t know how anyone could not have fun at the Atlantis.. it is truly magical!

• You only get one day of coffee.. this is the first place I have ever been that is like this.
• They provide salt and pepper shakers, but no salt and pepper. Not a show stopper, I just didn’t think to buy any at the store.. So put that on your list!
• The housekeeping/energy fee of $20 per person a day.. I would have rather just paid it up front.
• Housekeeping was not prompt and very average. We had to call twice to have housekeeping come. One day they still hadn’t come at 3pm when we needed to put our daughter down for a nap.
• Refrigerator leaked and toaster wouldn’t ever turn off.
• Yes.. the floor does make your feet black!

My recommendations:

• Another person recommended getting the Atlantis daily guide. This is nice to have. It tells you the movie they are showing that day, feeding times for the marine animals and if there is a dolphin show that day – it will tell you the time.
• Definitely do the dolphin show if you have small children. It is really cute and this is your only opportunity to see the dolphins up close if you don’t schedule a dolphin encounter.
• Make a day over by the Cove. You can do both the pool and the beach.
• Buy a Rum Punch or whatever mixed drink you like from the guy down at the beach by the Coral Towers. He will make them as strong as you like and you can negotiate the price.
• See the aquariums over by the Coral Towers.. Yes, I do think the Dig is the nicest, but there are some really cool sharks and lots of stingrays over by the Coral towers. And even though the Coral Towers is older, there are some really cool photo ops over there with the Royal Towers in the background.
• Snorkeling is pretty good. My husband and son used Bahamas Divers and we used Stuart’s Cove our last visit. Both companies take Divers and Snorkeler’s to the same locations

We rented a unit in Building 7 (#3715) for the week of February 28 - March 7th. We had been in Nassau the previous week at Sandyport Resort, and still had a rental car until the Sunday.
We arrived early on Saturday to check in(couldn't wait!), however our room wasn't ready. We expected this-no problem. The bell desk checked in our luggage and off we went.
From the moment we checked in until the moment we left, we had nothing but great experiences. The room we had overlooked the marina, and was very clean and spacious. Yes, food was expensive, but we were prepared for this. Why complain when you know this before going? If you want to save on food go somewhere else.
We brought coolers filled with snacks and drinks down to the pools everyday. That saved a ton, because I didn't find the poolside food expensive, but the drinks were.
Took a day a went and played at the Ocean Golf Resort. We've played alot of courses, and this was one of, if not, the BEST! Well worth it. You can take a shuttle from outside the Coral Tower. The course at Cable Beach is also good (and alot cheaper).
Our kids met some kids from the States, and had a blast! They were go go go. My favorite tube ride was the Rapid River. Just make sure you're tucked in when you go through the rapids. My son had so much fun at the race track. The staff there were so happy and patient with the kids. My daughter really liked Club Rush(except she could only go from 4 until 7 as she is only 12yrs old).
All in all this was one of the best family vacations ever. I was glad we had spent the one week in Nassau touring the island, but absolutly LOVED ATLANTIS! If you get a chance (we did the first week), go to Blue Lagoon and do the Dolphin Encounter. Take the early ferry, because you can spend the whole day on this beautiful island. We liked it so much that we went back as "observers" a couple days later. For $30 each adult and $20 each child we were transported to and from, fed (very clean and decent food), and relaxed on their pristine, calm beach for the day. Staff are so friendly!!
We will definitely return!!

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 13, 2009

We spent the first week of March 2009 at Harborside. This was our first trip outside of the USA, so we were new to passports, customs and so on. Everything went well when we arrived despite getting in the slowest line at customs, and our bags were waiting once we got through the line. We had contacted Fergie’s taxi and they were waiting on us when we walked out of the airport. We brought some snacks with us and asked the driver to stop at a grocery and liquor store on our way to the resort. A case of beer cost of around $50 and we spent another $50 on some grocery items (mainly snacks and drinks). The bellmen loaded our groceries and luggage and check in was a breeze.

We were in building #6 in a small 1 bedroom. If you are familiar with the resort building #6 is as far away from Atlantis as you can be in Harborside, since you have to walk around the tunnel. The good news is that we had a view of the harbor and were relatively close to the pool. As I understand it, our building is one of the newer ones and the furnishings and room was in great shape. We had a small eating area, a sitting area with couch and chair, separate bedroom w/ a king bed, a bathroom and a very small balcony overlooking the water. The only drawback to the small one bedroom is the very small balcony and somewhat smaller bathroom, but the room was adequate. We had the opportunity to call for a couple of light bulbs and to replace the batteries on the smoke alarms. Both calls were handled promptly and professionally. I read some reviews about the attitude of the staff, but everyone we spent time with was very friendly and helpful. The resort is beautiful and well maintained and was relatively easy to navigate. We spent a good bit of time at the Harborside pool which was a nice quiet spot compared to Atlantis, but didn’t eat at the restaurant. Also, we brought our cooler with us to the pool with beer, water and snacks and there were no issues with this (carried our cooler to Atlantis too).

The Atlantis resort is huge, and I don’t know it we ever found everything. Most of our first morning/afternoon was spent walking around Atlantis and checking out the pools, beaches, aquariums, restaurants, casino and other amenities at the resort. Most of the time we walked from Harborside to Atlantis and it took around 15-20 minutes, but we also took she shuttle several times. If a shuttle was waiting when we got to the main entrance then we usually rode, but if it wasn’t then we walked. We were surprised by the number books available in the library and went by most days for our 15 minutes of free internet usage. If you are unfamiliar with the process for the internet you sign up for your time slot (one per person per day) and they call your name when it is your turn. We also enjoyed the theatre and were able to watch a couple of movies during our stay. I think we took advantage of almost all of the slides and tube rides on the resort and enjoyed each of them. We also spent time at most of the Atlantis pools during the week. We ate relatively cheaply during the week with bagels for breakfast in our room and lunch and dinner out. We were able to split the large turkey sandwich at Jamba Juice for lunch and the Qiznos across the street was reasonably priced. For dinner we liked Bimini Road and Anthony’s, and ate at Murray’s and the Pizza place in the marina for a quick dinner. One morning we went to the breakfast buffet at Water’s Edge, but it was average in my opinion. The food prices are very high wherever you go and the grocery items are very high within the resort (Harborside and Atlantis) and at the small grocery store across the street from Marina Village.

We only left the resort one day and took a taxi into downtown Nassau on a windy and overcast day. We spent most of the day walking around downtown and checking out the various shops. I went running a couple of days and ran around Harborside, the marina and through the tunnel to the other side of Atlantis and was able to get 4-5 miles. The fitness facility at Harborside is rather small and all of the weight machines were out of service. They do have several treadmills and other cardio machines and a dumbbell rack up to 50 lbs. The fitness center was below average and there is a much larger facility in Atlantis for a fee (didn’t use that one).

We had a great week and will probably return in the future. Many thanks to the other posters for recommending Fergie’s taxi and the grocery stop on the way to the resort.
