First the good: The waterpark itself is wonderful. Probably the finest lazy river there is in the world. Beach is also top notch. Breakfast buffet at Seagrapes was pricey but the food was quite good. Most staff members were also very polite and friendly. IMHO, the good ends right there.

Value for money: this has to be at the bottom end of resorts. I stayed in the "budget" building in this complex and for 2 rooms for 3 nights, it was still $3K. This was for 2 rooms that you would not distinguish from any Super 8 and had a view of the cement roof and ventilation pipes. That's the start. For absolutely every single other thing it is an extra charge. $9 to rent the smallest locker there is at the waterpark, $7 for a bottle of Dasani in the room. $21 for internet per day. I could go on and on and on. I won't be back and for anyone that does any amount of traveling at all, they will instantly realize the very low value for money that this resort offers.

My husband and myself had the misfortune of staying here overnight due to our flight being delayed overnight. The room that we had was filthy, dust, hairs, crumbs and rather nasty looking staining on the carpet not to mention the grubby walls. The bathroom was just as bad if not worse, there were hairs (short curly ones) all over the bath and floor as well as long dark hairs on the tiles above the bath - it clearly hadn't been cleaned! The TV appeared not to be working until on further investigation we realised that the plug had not been fully pushed in (perhaps a money making trick - call reception to complain and they send someone to check and fix which will cost you the expected 'tip') The public area of the hotel is very smelly and smoky and noisy. The Olives restaurant was smoky on account of it being in the casino (it was the only restaurant that was open when we were there) and the food was so over salted it was inedible - I'm aware that this is a fairly common practice to make you buy more to drink, but this was way over the top! This hotel is an absolute hell hole, dirty noisy smoky and seedy - I don't know how it can be described as 'family friendly! - Never again!!!

Awesome trip booked 5 days before we left thru bookit.com. Got$100 credit as off-season incentive. Loved the resort and everything it had to offer. Ocean view room was perfect with a balcony to sit out on. Would go again in a heartbeat! There is so much to do on the resort you can't possibly be bored, and then there's the gorgeous beach to relax on.

When BA cancelled our flight back to Heathrow we were devastated but only briefly as thety told us we would be put up at Atlantis . Free shuttle to a nice room in Beach towers overlooking the beach. Staff really friendly and efficient especially in the morning when we had to get back to the airport. Won a $100 dollars or so in the casino and treated ourselves to a nice drink in Platos bar - great until the waiters turned the fire pits off.
Dinner - on BA so I should not complain - but I will - was at Nobu in the hotel. Please see separate review. Breakfast in the market place was lovely - see separate review.

Room Tip: Choose one with the shortest walk - this hotel needs moving walkways.

Had a wonderful time. Be careful of the sun.....it's HOT and sneaks up quick. We ate at the buffet a few times and traveled outside the property to a few local places. We really enjoy our time spent out of the resorts as well. Love to feel the culture. Food in is pricey, but that's to be expected. There is a little store out past the guard gate, taking a left onto that 1st street, down and on the right. Prices for water and other drinks is much better. A little local diner on that same street was really good too.
Received a room upgrade which was nice.

We'd go back.

We understood the Beach Towers to be the more "economical" option on the Atlantis compound, but did not want to dive right into the Cove as this was our first trip to the Bahamas. That said...Beach was a mistake. The room was terribly outdated, thrown together and warn. Warm (let alone hot) water in the shower was a luxury despite having brought it to the attention of the front desk on a couple of instances. We'd tried to update our room from day one, but our requests fell on deaf ears. We've vacationed on several of occasions to Grand Cayman and Aruba and have always been treated as guests. At the Atlantis we were honestly just a number, which is understandable considering the monopoly Atlantis has on the area. The entire compound is overwhelming to every degree. We explored the other towers and the Cove seemed to be the only place we would ever consider if we were to consider the Atlantis again. The Royal towers have the feel of the Atlanta airport...beyond busy. If you are a foodie some of the fine dining options are quite nice, but also come at a very steep price (we are accustom to this with our experiences in Aruba and Grand Cayman). What we were not accustom to is not having decent, more economical, options to chose from. The "pool side" options are very limited and ballpark quality at best, although the Brats and Balls food stand was OK. Most other places we've visited you at least have the option for free water in coolers around the pools and beach areas...not at the Atlantis. You'll pay...and handsomely. I must give a shout out of praise to the life guards. The beach is guarded very well. Other places we've visited do not have beach life guards. The Atlantis is guarded for very good reason. We would not recommend venturing into the surf unless you are a strong swimmer (even on those days where the beach is not red flagged). We understood the strong surf and undertow sadly took a soul over by the Riu tower during our stay...we also understand this is not a rare scenario. The beach was red flagged at the time, but the folks over at the Riu beach opted to disregard the warning. The guards at the Atlantis were diligent in keeping folks out of the water during red flagged days and for that we applaud them. In all, the weather was very nice (for the most part) and we did walk away with great tans and the fine dining restaurants we ate at were very nice, but I do not believe the Atlantis is our kind of resort.

Enjoyed a fantastic week long stay at the Beach Tower!
We booked last minute and I was a bit scared based on all the reviews posted on Tripadvisor. Was expecting dodgy hotel room. However very pleasantly suprised!

Check in went well. We were actually upgraded to an ocean view, which was fabulous! View was breathtaking. SO HAPPY! Room was very clean, spacious, and bed was lovely and comvfortable with very nice linens. Bathroom looks like it was renovated within the last few years, there was nice quality bath products and lots of towels. Some of the wood furniture was a little bit chipped, but this obviously did not bother me. Housekeeping did a great job every day. They were so considerate. One of them noticed I was keeping a diary using the hotel stationary and she left me 2 extra notepads.

The location of the Beach Tower was fantastic. It is closest to the nicest part of the beach. If you go down at 9am or so, able to get chairs with covers/ shades on them. Otherwise if you come later in the day, harder to get these. Beach was never particularly crowded. Water is sooo beautiful, crystal clear, no rocks or coral to hurt your feet on.

I didn't find the locals selling things to be bothersome. In fact, it was very convenient if you were too lazy to walk all the way to get a coke, they sell you one at same price (which is crazy, $4/ can of pop). They are trying to make a living, so this does not bother me at all.
The one thing that did bother me, sometimes, was constant roar of jet ski's and stinky gasoline fumes. Would be nice if Atlantis considered banning these in its vicinity.

The Beach Tower is further away from the other parts of the resort, such as casino, royal towers, etc.. It is a good 1-2km walk to get to these other places. However, if you have poor mobility or small children, it could be a pain.

Resort itself was fantastic experience. LOVED the aquariums, all the ponds with manta rays, turtles, etc. Public areas were clean, well kept. So many swimming pools, none of them were ever crowded when we went. Also LOVED the Cove beach, this is very beautiful! saw some fish snorkelling by the rocky area. Waterslides and river was lots of fun. Good mix of families and young people at resort.
Downsides to resort, obviously food prices as pointed out by everyone. We stuck to the lower cost resturants like Starbucks, Johnny Rockets, outdoor resturants, Lagoon bar and grill. Two juices and a sausage breakfast sandwhich was $18 at starbucks.
If small children bother you, this is the wrong place to be!
Overall I found 95% of hotel employees to be warm, enthusiastic and helpful There was once in a while someone who looked disinterested on the job but that is probably the case anywhere else in the world.
One other weird thing I experienced, one night i heard "click" that someone was trying to open our door. We had it locked on the inside. I peeked out and saw it was a hotel employee. I opened the door and asked him if I could help him: he told me he was "checking the doors". This seemed odd to me. So I would suggest always locking your hotel doors once you are in room.
Otherwise, fantastic stay, sad to leave!

Room Tip: Beach view is fantastic! higher rooms have better view.
