“Fun place, expect to get nickel and dimed to death”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 31, 2013

Wife and I just returned from nearly a week at Atlantis and our accommodations were at the Beach Tower. We didn't want anything fancy since we wouldn't even spend the majority of the day in the room anyway and it was moreso a place to crash.

The room was definitely your standard hotel room. Everything worked just fine even though the A/C was manually controlled and the thermostat didn't actually control the unit. There was an option for on/off and slow/medium/high for fan speed. The slow speed was perfect at night as it was very quiet, but still moving and cooling the air. People say the TV didn't work in their room. Ours worked just fine. It better have worked just fine as it looked quite new!

Because we had wanted to cut corners on food costs, we requested a mini-fridge. Our travel agent took care of this on our behalf, but an important detail was left out and that was the fact that a mini-fridge rental was $15/day! One of many ways they nickel and dime you.

It is still best to go into Nassau and buy food; if anything stuff for breakfast and lunch that does not require a microwave (the resort does not offer microwaves in any room). We did just that and made it the entire week without buying a single lunch or breakfast. That would have added easily another $50-100/day on food costs. Dinners you should expect to spend around $60 for two people and that's if you avoid the upscale restaurants.

We had a beautiful view of the ocean from our north-facing room. It also overlooked the pool and even the lagoon where the stingrays were. Make sure you request an ocean-view room if you book in the Beach Tower.

Overall we liked staying in the Beach Tower. Yes, it's quite a walk to the Coral Tower, Royal Tower and the water park, but at least it's very easy access to the beach. Plus the swimming pool does not get all that crowded so finding a chair next to the pool is no problem at all.

Room Tip: North or west facing rooms are the best!

The Beach Tower is usually closed during my pervious visits. It is reserved for over flow and peak season.. However, The property still labels you as a low class person unless you are staying at the Reef or Cove. I do not like labels and segregation on a vacation. It is hard to get a dinner reservation when you are at one of their lessor properties. The pools are very noisy and non relaxing with Hip Hop blaring at max power by the Atlantis's low class DJ's Internet is expensive and spotty throughout the property at $20 a day. The water smells of sulfur and pipes broke twice leaving the hotel without water for a few hours. I have been here 9 times never again. It is a cheep disney world. If you want a family destination stay in the US.

Atlantis is due for a renovation, room had a broken draw and broken thermostat, both took two days to fix. Additionally, plan on spending most of the day on line, mainly due to the hundreds of cruse people that buy day passes. Kids constantly complained that the good slides had a long wait.

Room Tip: Stay elsewhere and buy a day pass

Our first time at Atlantis and certainly not our last. We love the beach tower because it is close to the beach and is not as crowded as the other towers. It is close to downtown Nassau for shopping and eating, just over the bridge or a 8 minutes ferry ride. People are very friendly and helpful. We can't wait to bring the family back next year.

4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 28, 2013

My 8 year old daughter and I just returned from a trip to Atlantis. We had a wonderful time, but this is not so much a vacation that I would call "relaxing." This is more a vacation place for kids than adults in my opinion, so if you have kids I highly recommend it, but if you're looking for an adult vacation, I think the RIU next door is a better option. Much more relaxing and quiet and tranquil.

The room was decent and clean enough, but nothing fancy, just a standard hotel room. We didn't plan on spending much time in the room, so this was fine with us. The TV didn't work and the toilet had to be fixed because there was a terrible odor from the running water, but again, this was fine with us because we were rarely in the room. The terrace view looks out to the top of a roof. There is no "view" so be aware of this if you book a terrace view. It was nice to go outside and feel the war air, but the rooftop offered no view at all. Be aware that you should lock your valuables in the safe. We returned to our room after lunch and the door was propped open with the inside lock (which I definitely did not leave that way) so not sure if the maid accidently left the room open, or what actually happened, but this was odd. So basically, the room is fine and comfortable if you're not expecting a good view or anything fancy.

We loved the sea turtles that were right outside the Beach Tower and we loved the fact that the tower was a very short walk to the beach. There is a nice pool and a relaxing lazy river right outside the Beach Tower as well.

The beach was beautiful, but get there early if you want a chair with a cover and you want to be in the row by the beach. The chairs fill up very early and its hard to find a spot. If you don't get a chair with an attached shade, you have to rent an umbrella. Not sure how much, but probably not cheap. The sun is super hot! The snorkeling off of the beach was fantastic! We saw lots of colorful fish and schools of fish. There is no coral (its rock) but there is a nice variety of fish to look at at and the water is warm and calm. We had a great time snorkeling!

The water park is a 10 minute walk from the beach tower. We found that there were no chairs left to put down our stuff, and locker rental was $9.00. It was really, really crowded with cruise people. I learned not to bring our snorkeling stuff or any valuables because you literally have to leave your stuff on the ground and hope that no one takes it.

The "Current" ride was awesome! A kind of rapid filled lazy river. Really fun, but its hard to get a double tube during peak hours, You just have to wait and wait until someone is willing to give one up. Once on the ride you can stay on for as long as you'd like. This was the best part of the water park. The rest of the slides were fun, but really long wait time and very short ride time. Very crowded.

There is a lagoon for snorkeling which was fun and looked nice from above, but they need to have someone clean it out after hours because there were food wrappers and soda cans thrown in from above and you had to snorkel alongside the garbage, which is unappealing.

There is also a lagoon by the Cove for great snorkeling which was clean and calm. We really enjoyed this. Its a far walk from the Beach Tower, but worth it.

The marine life was incredible and we enjoyed looking at all the habitats and tanks. We fed the turtles by the Beach Tower and that was a highlight for my daughter.

What I really did not like were the long lines and exorbitant prices of the food. It is impossible to eat lunch for less than $15 per person and the food is fast food quality. Its hard to find a place to sit and the lines were long and slow moving. Eating lunch was never a pleasant experience and it was frustrating everyday. There is a 15% gratuity on everything. Even fast food, ice cream, etc. everything! Expect to pay crazy amounts of money, wait on long lines and be annoyed at lunch time.

Overall we had an incredible time! But this was a tiring vacation. Tons of walking, battling crowds, waiting on lines. If you're expecting this, then you'll have a great time. There is a ton to do and see! If you're looking for a relaxing, laying in the sun, eating and drinking good food, no hassles, etc....then go to the RIU all inclusive next door. Same ocean, one pool, but great food at the buffet all day, no crowds, no lines and yummy hassle free drinks at the Tiki bar.

Beach Tower....your kids will love it...you will love watching your kids love it...but you may wish you were next door relaxing at the RIU instead of waiting in lines and looking for a place to lay in the sun.

We stayed at Atlantis Beach Tower in late September. The price was just right but the weather was even better. It was our first time but the staff and the native of the Bahamas made us feel at home. We had an amazing time and can't wait to go back.

Room Tip: Make sure to walk over the bridge and have conk fritters at The Poop Deck. Service and food is delic...

The resort is amazing, so many things to do. Cove beach is by far the best, few waves and many fish to see. The rooms at the Beach hotel are small, but well kept. Finding a place to economical place to eat breakfast is a challenge, the Seagrapes buffet is $44 per person, the Duncan Donuts a short walk from the Coral towers is the best bet (breakfast for 4 under $20). Another tip, most stores open later than in the US and close much earlier, the city shuts down about 6 pm.
