Club Land'or Resort
Reviewed November 1, 2011

We just recently returned from Pardise Island Bahamas (10/23-10/27/11). We stayed at Club Land'Or in 2007 and had a great time! Our room was just a place to sleep and it was fine for that. We spent our days out enjoying the sunshine and all the fun activities. On this visit we stayed at Atlantis but we came back to Club Land'Or for the super fun Sunday Night BBQ. Awesome food and great show with Action Jackson!! Check out the you tube videos of Dancing Al at Club Land'or and Action Jackson. If you know anything about Paradise Island you'll know an average dinner for 2 can easily cost $150 but the Sunday night bbq at Club Land'Or was around $35 per person and includes the show. You simply need to call and book with the concierge. Highly recommended for anyone looking for fun!!

My husband and I stayed there 10/21-28 for our honeymoon, and were disgusted with the quality of the rooms and amenities. We were told through our time share to ask for an "upgrade" room to see if one was available, when I asked and mentioned we were on our honeymoon- they laughed at us. The rooms haven't been rennovated since the building was built, the hallways smell like fried food and mold and I'm quite surprised they haven't knocked it down. I can't believe that people spend this much money on a timeshare and have been okay with giving this run-down property anymore of their money. We tried to book rooms in Atlantis but it was just too expensive. We were really upset our first two nights there but decided to just stay as far away from that hotel as possible as much as we could and ended up having an amazing time. Their wristbands are usesless as you just get access to one crowded beach area that you can't swim in- your better off paying for Atlantis. Their "free continental breakfast" is a joke... you get processed muffins and 2 slices of toast with some butter. Then you can pay for a "sliced banana" for $4, we ordered sausages and wanted to throw up looking at them.

The only positive I can say is their entertainment that involved "Action Jackson" (the guy who does the fire show one night) was entertaining and fun, and the staff there (some) are very very nice and accomodating.

Overall I would say, don't stay there if your used to anything other than a 1 star (out of 5) hotel.

Room Tip: Go to Atlantis ;)

I stayed at the Club Land'Or the last week of June, 2011. If you can lower your expectations and just be aware of the issues, this could be a cheap place to stay. But I the bottom line is you can go somewhere else better for your money (try the Comfort Suites). Some of the staff was very nice (particularly Al & Tony) and they really seem to love their jobs and care about the guests. Some of the staff (the woman hawking time shares) shouldn't be allowed to interact with guests. It's hard to give the resort low scores for service because some of those people work very hard - it's just some of the others who ruin it.

This place is beyond outdated - it's rundown and should probably be completely gutted and redone, or torn down completely.

If you get suckered into going to this place do NOT buy any meal or drink packages. And if you do buy one, whatever you do, don't lose your little piece of paper punch card because they will not replace it. You will get a surprise $25/person/day charge that is due upon checkout. The only activity worth doing is the Rose Island tour. The Atlantis beach pass (which was essentially a business card) gets you use of beach chairs at the strip of beach near the Atlantis hotel. There is a special entrance through the casino that Club Land'or guests have to use and it took us a while to find it. The beaches are public, but if you want to go to the "Atlantis beach" access points are limited and you supposedly need a pass to get a chair (although with some luck and charm you could probably get chairs without a pass).

Some highlights of our stay at the Club Land'Or:
1). The tap water tastes awful. The store in the lobby sells water but at an inflated price. There is a small convenience store nearby - the water there will cost you less, but the Club Land'Or staff didn't want to tell us about this store. To find this convenience store, exit anywhere along the marina, go over to where you see all the golf carts parked and there is a little ramp or stairs leading up to the edge of the Marina shops. Just keep walking out towards the main road and you should see a bank in a strip mall. Get over to that strip mall and you should find the store.
2). They seemed to ration our toilet paper and towels.
3). The maid service will do you dishes, although I'm not sure how since we weren't left with any dish soap and the maid didn't have any to give us.
4). I know food in the Bahamas is expensive so the hotel is obviously trying to cut cots - but the continental breakfast is a joke - a muffin and some toast. At least they have coffee and juice. We would bring our toast and muffins back to our room, and then add eggs, peanut butter, fruit, etc. to try and make a balanced meal. Try to get over to the town grocery store (Club Land'Or runs a shuttle there which of course they charge you for, but if you want to save on food costs it's worth it). We tried to walk to the store but the front desk gave us miserable directions and we got lost.
5). They have washers and dryers available for use. Bring your own soap. The machines aren't in the best shape, but it was nice to do some laundry before going home.
6). We never ate at the "5 Star Blue Lagoon" restaurant. I suspect that award was given decades ago. I don't know why anyone would want to eat there - the place is dated and worn down, and just doesn't feel clean. The only time I saw people eating there was during breakfast (maybe one or two tables); I suspect these people were just desperate since the continental breakfast isn't exactly filling.
7). Our air conditioning barely worked.
8). The pull-out sofabed was extremely uncomfortable.
9). The shower is tiny - kind of impossible to shave your legs in there!
10). Our toilet didn't flush properly, we had to pull the handle up each time so it would stop running.

My husband and I checked out of Club Land'Or due to the deplorable conditions of the room: rooting, molded, and mildewed bathroom door, dirty bathroom with rusted shower curtain, dirty toilet with ring around the toilet bowl, no telephone in room, dirty iron with mildew build-up (the iron ceased to operate after 5 minutes after receiving it); stove with only one burner that worked, dirty and smelly linens (coverlet), remote control that did not work (batteries had disintegrated and no replacement provided); carpet dirty and smelly; dirty balcony and furniture, dirty furniture, and closet that was loaded with dust as if it had not been vacuumed in years, to name a few. The entire room smelled of mold and mildew which made us sick!!!

My thoughts were to check out of the hotel immediately after arrival (on July 15), but my husband decided to notify management of the room conditions and give them the opportunity to fix, or at least, remedy some of the problems, especially the smell of mold. When we checked out on Monday, July 18, 2011, none of the above problems was solved, with the exception of the phone. We were appalled that Club Land'Or rented a room in that condition. When we checked out, an employee told us that we were the sixth set of guests to check out because of the deplorable condition of the rooms and hotel. The clerk at the front desk could not deny the our claim.

We also purchased two beach access passes for $135.00 that they claimed would "allow you to enjoy all the amenities of the Atlantis Beach." It amounted to nothing more than allowing you to walk a shorter distance to get to the Cabbage Beach and was a total ripoff!! Who cares!! I certainly don't mind walking! The same beach could be accessed from another location not far away.

A hotel does not have to be 5-star, but it should be, at least, clean and comfortable. Club Land'Or does not qualify for even 1/2 of a star!

Room Tip: Don't waste your time!

I went to Club Land'or with my wife in our honeymoon and it was disapponting.

The staff was very nice (one exception only), but the price was too high to the service we had.

The room was not that clean, everything in the room was old...

Although kind of far from the beaches in Paradise Island, it was very close to the brigde that connects the island to Nassau.

The best point in our trip was the friends we made there (in Nassau). Bahamians are very friendly and really lovely.

We had horrible service upon arrival, during out stay and departure. We went for our anniversary. Upon arrival at 9:00PM...we were told we had to pay 25.00 per person per night. However, this was NOT noted on there website. The ONLY time we received anything regarding extra pay was when we booked and confirmed out hotel stay and couldn't cancel, is when we received a letter in FINE print on the back of our confirmation letter. We weren't happy! The first night, we noticed our sliding door was broken- we told this to mgmt, and the lady quoted to us : "just use the wooden block as a security lock." The next day, we put a "DO NOT DISTURB" sign on our door, and went to beach. Upon return, they had been in our room, our bed was made and dishes done. I went to MGMT again and told them. That SAME day, we went to pool came back to room, and they had been in AGAIN. This happened 2 more times in 2 different days. There we bugs everywhere! In the sinks and floor. A roach was in living room and went under closet door. The bathroom is and very small, hardly no room to turn around. Floor was very dirty, glasses were dirty and bugs inside cabnets. We ate at their restaurant called " Blue Lagoon" and that was even worse! They were out of the 3 items we asked for. They messed out bill up. It took them 30 minutes to come back with our bill after the 3 attempts they did to try and make it right. Their so called "continental Breakfast" is a JOKE. They give you free coupons for breakfast. You think you will have a real breakfast just to find out, all you get is OJ, Coffee, toast and 2 muffins, and they make you pay for everything else. We have stayed at Freeport at the Ritz the past 2 years and wanted to try a NEW place. We will NEVER go back to this place, ever! We never had to pay anything at the Ritz, it was beautiful and clean and updated. This place, Club Land' Or was NOT clean nor updated and the customer service was horrible. When we would leave and go outside, the front desk would ask us "where you going" everytime. Its NONE of their business! We spoke with people who own timeshares there, and one guy has owned it for 20 years and said nothing has been updated in those 20 years and said he still has the same towel rod from 20 years ago. He pays maintance and update fees but nothing is changed? So where is our 24.00 per person per night fee going too? DONT GO THERE.

Room Tip: Stay only at places where rooms are voted HIGH, look for reviews on BUGS: IMPT to check if you will...

This resort was build in 1982 and has had no renovations other than paint since then. When the resort was painted, it was done very shabbily paint dripped down faucets and dried there, light fixtures were not removed, doors were not removed, etc. The AC is a noisy window unit that has to be kept on high, if not the room becomes humid and the tile floors start to sweat. There is no AC in the hall ways. The front desk people are grumpy and not very helpful. When we arrived, before we were given our key the front desk person informed us that there would be a $25.00 a day per person tax added to our room and they needed to get a credit card for this charge. This made our room cost go up an unexpected $350.00, before our vacation began. The shower was so small that you had to turn it off to soap up and then turn it back on to rinse, curtain was cheap and flimsy so the water leaked out on to the floor. The bed was small and the mattress worn out and when you got into bed you would roll to the middle. The lobby is not equipped with an elevator, so you must climb 2 or 3 flights of stairs to get to the bar and restaurant. There is not much entertainment, except movie night on a 27 in TV by the pool, bar b q with dinner show for $65.00 each, and Rose Island day trip for $65.00. The Rose Island trip was the only thing that we enjoyed for the week. The people who worked at the bar were friendly and helpful. They tried to get everyone to do the activities and get to know one another. The resort is 8 or 9 blocks from the "public" beach.
