Having never stayed at the Ocean Club, we were anxious to see how the Four Seasons culture would fit for this location. From our point of view, seems to be just fine..with a few comments.
*Staff: With few exceptions, the staff was great. From those attending to our rooms, offering champagne and strawberries at night, the lifeguards (great for conversation), we found most folks would return a quick hello with a smile. They were quick to find out our evening plans, making reservations for a taxi if needed. Overall, very attentive.
*Grounds: Beautiful. The grounds are fantastic, well maintained and make it pleasant as you move through your day. We enjoyed going through the Versailles Garden early in the morning as we went to the main road to run/walk. Hammocks in various locations made for a good place to take calls without disturbing those that are able to shun ALL work.
*Facilities: The workout center had everything you need to keep stay in your routine. Located next to the adult pool, it includes locker rooms and showers. We used these as a changing station (early arrival) until our room was prepared later in the day. A spa was close by. Getting to all these locations was enhanced by the beauty of the grounds (did I mention how nice they are?). The bar/sitting area in the main building seems to serve as a hub. Coffee and juice in the morning. Cocktails in the evening. A place to do some work if needed at mid-day.
*Room: Our room was in the recently rehabbed Hartford wing. Great ocean view from our balcony. Easy location to anything on the campus. Decorated very nicely. The bed was comfortable but did not especially like the pillows. Personal preference there. Shower and bath area clean and contemporary.
**Comments:
-One of the lights shades in the room had significant water stains. This in addition to the fact that the metal guide that attacked it to the ceiling was loose. Came across as cheap.
-The thermostat that controlled out AC unit had a mind of its own. We tolerated waking up to sub-60 degree temps as well as warm and sweaty in the afternoons. The setting seemed to make no difference. The final insult arrived as we were prepping to leave. it appears the unit froze, then melted all over my wife's clothes in the closet.
-The mini-bar fridge was not attached properly in the cabinet. Opening the unit involved catching the fridge before it fell out. Ultimately, this made it easier to skip those snacks.
-TV interface: Granted, we are not there to watch television. But it would be nice to have access to a smart TV that enables you to pull up Netflix, etc. Perhaps provide a USB cord that pulls these from a laptop. The satellite service moves at a snail's pace, but we found it consistent with other FS locations.
-The door tag that indicates "please clean VS privacy". This is a nice wood carving that tends to bounce around AFTER you close the door. Kind of like a throw of the dice as to where it lands. It hangs by a leather strap. Next time, we will lay the sign on the ground in front of the door with our choice up. That should solve it.
-The beachside pool was warmer than most hot tubs at mid-day. Not sure if that is normal for this location, but the adult pool was much more refreshing.
None of the above comments did anything to ruin our stay. But I think they do represent things that you do NOT generally expect with this group. We will return again to see if they tighten up the offering.
