I live in NY and have been to Carmines a lot of times and always enjoyed the service and the meal. I was thrilled when I foudn one in the Marina Village on Paradise Island. We made reservations months ahead of time so the wait wasn't too long. We ordered our usual appetizer of fried calamari for 6 of us and garlic bread. It was exactly the portion we had expected which was more than enough. We had some leftover to bring home. We ordered 2 entrees, chicken scallopini and shrimp scampi plus a side of angel hair pasta. When our entrees came we were a little shocked. The portion was a bit smaller than we had anticipated. We got 10 breaded shrimp in no scampi sauce and we got 10 very small and thin chicken cutlets that had been cut in half so they werent even full pieces. The pasta came to us wiht nothing on it. No marinara or anything. We took the chicken scallopini sauce and drizzled that over the pasta so we made it work. It turned out that we had just enough food but not enough for seconds and our portions were very small. We were a little afraid to order dessert so when we ordered our usual titanic we wanted something else to go on the side but they had run out of the tiramisu and tartufo so we ended up with just the titanic. It was huge and what we were used to. I feel that Carmines on Paradise Island is equivalent in taste and price but not in portion size. Sitting in this restaurant i did feel like i was back at home at my Carmines in NYC.

We had dinner here our first night. We waited an extra 20min for our reservation. The restaurant was very loud and very busy. The food was plentiful and very good. Our waiter was pretty average with not much fun or frills.

When you visit Paradise Island, you have to try Carmines! We had heard the food was good but we werent at all prepared for the huge size of the dishes - so be forewarned! My wife and I were visiting without the kids, so when we saw the amazing but huge dishes of food being delivered all around us, we ordered two plates to share between us. Most of the people around us were in large groups, where you can order four or five plates and share them amongst the group. The food was incredible and the huge portions were a topic of conversation everywhere. The people beside us offered some of their choices and we did the same. Drinks were fantastic and they have a very diverse wine and drink menu but the drinks were not huge. The service was very good but this is not a place for a quick meal but rather a leisurely enjoyable meal with friends or your spouse. We will go back - make reservations as they fill up quickly and will be full all night. If you forget to reserve, ask to wait at the bar as tables to come available.

If you ignore the front desk at Carmine's, everything else is a win. The food is good, the portions enormous, the prices reasonable-given portion size. The waiters are helpful (as mentioned, the front desk isn't.) It's a big, lively place. I've been there a half dozen times over three years, and never had a bad meal. Just don't expect gourmet.
