“Don't miss this place!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 3, 2014

My wife and I recently visited family in Nassau. While there they suggested dining at Sapodilla, a recently opened restaurant. It was a tremendous experience. The restaurant is part of an estate, and the building itself was originally constructed as a way for the estate owner to entertain guests. The architecture itself is wonderful, with a conical central ceiling. We were seated in this area and listened to local music (softly played, a real benefit) while having drinks and reviewing the menu. We were then seated at one of a number of tables arranged around the central area. The service and food was fantastic, I'm unsure why others have commented negatively in this regard. Two added bonuses: one of the staff gave us a guided tour of the facilities after dinner, with local history; and the restaurant has a humidor containing a sufficient variety of cigars that are the real deal Cubanos. (Don't bother buying from the cigar store in Atlantis). All in all we had a great experience. It is expensive (meal for four, with dessert and drinks over $500), but most any place decent in Nassau is. Prepare to be spoiled and have a great meal!

“Beautiful setting and good food, service needs to match”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 2, 2014

The restaurant itself has been so well done, fitted with high quality fixtures and materials, from the marble flooring to the leather chairs. It is a beautiful environment. However the service does not match the surroundings.

When you arrive you are inundated with people that shake your hand but don't tell you who they are or what their purpose is in the restaurant. Also there seems to be automatic valet parking and temporary seating in the piano bar, this should be explained on the website and when you make a reservation.

The menus and wine list are beautifully done and showcase Bahamian musical history, this is a unique and well done approach. We had two waiters who were friendly but seemed very inexperienced, and their nervousness was apparent, which impacted how they interacted with us as diners. As the goal is to provide a very high end experience everything in the restaurant not just the surroundings should meet this standard. Our waiter made a mistake with the wine order and it was corrected, but we were still charged for one of the glasses of wine, which should have been removed. One of the waiters was not comfortable with the menu, the bread and butter options, and he was not confident or professional in his service, and again, this impacted our experience.

The starters (Lobster bisque, Chicken soup, Sapodilla salad, grilled calamari) were of good quality, but did not meet the standard expected or promised by the surroundings. The entrees were exceptional well presented, delicious, beautiful (Lobster, Shrimp), but there were little things, the lemon should have been netted, and the waiters should not scrape the plates on the tray next to the table, again not up to the expected standard. The desserts were good as well (crème brulee, sorbet), and well presented.

Given that valet parking is part of the service, when the bill is paid, the waiter should let the hostess know that the client has finished dinner and their car should be brought around.

Overall, the restaurant itself is absolutely beautiful, and the food is good. The operations still have kinks to work out to be in line with the promise of the surroundings. Once that happens it will be a truly amazing restaurant.

“Awesome All Around”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 26, 2014

This restaurant is one of the best restaurants I have visited in the world the ambiance, the service the food the experience down to the very last detail was awesome to say the least I had the cesar salad to start an she veal chop along with the chocolate cake. The Cesar salad was fresh and extremely tasty and by no means boring or messy as I have experienced in restaurants attempting to achieve what Sapodilla has the veal was well prepared and well presented and definitely an entree where hadi been in another location I would have used my hands....it was at good an she chocolate cake was a small slice of heaven over all the food was a 10 out of 10 the restaurant itself is beautiful and is somewhat like an enchanted world the owner has spared no expense and has achieved a comfortable ambience that in no way feels stuffy I recommend it to any foodie or person wanting a nice devpcent dining experience and the prices are not outrageous at all

Its easily on par with Graycliff but the food and ambiance is far better

“Overpriced and Average Food”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 26, 2014

This restaurant has been operating since December 2013 according to the staff, but has only appeared on our radar recently. Six of us decided to try it out on a saturday night and the bill came to almost $1,000 - for very average food. And none of us ordered the top menu items. Valet parking (not necessary) added to the cost, and we were charged for more wine than we ordered. The setting is beautiful, the ambiance excellent, with piano and steel pan entertainment in the lounge. The staff were friendly and attentive, but not sure who ordered what. My entree was a clump of tasteless, overcooked spaghetti with two shrimp and a small piece of lobster- $37. Pan-fried snapper - $50. They would do well to hire a proper chef.

“The Bahamian Experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 16, 2014

By far, this has been the best dining experience in a long time here in New Providence! From the drive in to our table, the service was perfect! And our meal did not fail to continue the authentic Bahamian experience! Kudos to management and their team!
