Such a nice cosy B&B, in a calm location, the complete opposite of Atlantis. If you like authenticity, this is it. Staff was very helpful and there are a few places around for dinner and beach stuff. Hope to go back soon.

Room Tip: No fitness center but a nice little pool and it's 3 minutes from the beach.

Although we live in The Bahamas, our house is on an island a long way from New Providence where the capital Nassau is located. When we visit Nassau we usually stay in the Hilton, Breezes, or Atlantis but one of our neighbours recommended A Stone's Throw Away which is only a mile or two from the airport so no need to join the traffic jams to downtown Nassau. The hotel is small, some would say a boutique hotel - less than 10 rooms - ours was on the top floor with splendid views over the Atlantic on one side and a panorama on the other which took in most of the West side of New Providence. The room (#9) was large and comfortable with lots of interesting nooks and crannies to explore. The hotel is not very old but has been constructed in the old Bahamaian style with lots of wood and beautiful balconies. We had a wonderful meal outside when the sun went down and were very impressed with the attention of Colin who made sure that it was a dining experience to remember. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom had a huge tub and a seperate shower. Outside there is a little swimming pool which has been carved out of the rocks - very unusual. Gripes? We had a few bees in the room when we arrived but they were soon removed; No showercap in the bathroom. $2 for a small bottle of water and the breakfast was continental at its most basic. But none of these issues did anything to spoil a wonderful experience away from the madding crowd.

Room Tip: Ocean view was wonderful.

Loved this place. I tend to prefer places that are more comfortable, older in style and managed by families or owners that actually give a damn. A stone's throw away has all that in spades. Chris the owner is often present, and takes care to make sure you have what you need. All staff are extremely gracious and conscientious.

We were in the Ocean View room, which was lovely. No complaints whatsoever with the room.

A few areas for improvement.

Internet. While the Internet itself is reasonable, the wifi coverage is absolutely terrible, and only covers a portion of the main floor and balcony. It is essentially unusable on upper floors where bedrooms are. In acknowledgement of this fact, there are ethernet cables by the beds in rooms. The only problem is that many modern devices don't have ethernet ports. Phones, tablets, and many airbook-style laptops either don't have them or at the least require dongles. Strong recommendation is to make sure there are well-positioned access points on each floor. This would improve the experience tremendously. In this day and age, good Internet is an essential ingredient for any hotel property.

Food. There is free breakfast every day, cooked to order. But the food quality is very very marginal, nothing but the most basic fare. No half and half for coffee (just lowfat milk) etc. Chris-- the food could really use an upgrade. Even charge for fancier breakfasts, etc.

Finally-- While the place is 5 minutes from the airport, it's farther away from most of the activity on the island. You'll need to rent a scooter (we did) or take taxis pretty much everywhere. "A stone's throw" might be tongue in cheek, but not necessarily accurate. For those looking for a more out of the way place, it's perfect.

I'd definitely stay here again, but would really hope that at least the Internet might be improved in the meantime.

Best of luck to you guys.

Room Tip: EIther Ocean Room or the top-floor Suite (bigger, but no deck and poor ocean visibility).

We have been frequent travelers to the remote islands of the Bahamas and have always avoided staying in Nassau's busy touristy areas. On this trip we had no choice due to flight schedules and our destination getaway recommended ASTA. What a wonderful gem!
A short taxi ride from the airport drops you off at the bottom of a rock ledge with a single door opening. Step through the door and be awestruck by the stairway carved through solid sandstone which leads to the hotel sitting on top. If you need help with luggage, just ring the bell at the door and someone magically appears to carry your bags.
Since we were staying only one night we opted for a garden view room which was small but very adequate. A full honor bar gives the freedom to sip a cool beverage on the balcony and wind down. Be sure to reserve dinner. It is delicious!
Collin went above and beyond for us, helping us with what appeared to be an airline glitch and getting us to the airport the next morning. He is a treasure, serving dinner and filling us in on the story of A Stone's Throw Away.
Our next trip to the islands will have to have a couple nights stay over just so we can return to this wonderful, relaxing spot.

If you are looking for a resort, getting tanned in a pool surrounded by people, hanging out with bachelor parties and staff serving infinite drinks in plastic cups, this is not your place. If you are looking for a beautiful, relaxing room to come back after a day in the Bahamas, look not further. This place makes you feel in your little paradise. You would like it if you enjoy a reading looking at the ocean, a nap in the balcony before the sunset, and a quiet place to have a drink in good company and have an interesting conversation. Real luxury.

Nice stuff, nice price, nice location (far away from the noise, the crowds and the fake Atlantis). Take the 10 bus and go to downtown. Take nothing and go to Compass Point for a a nice lunch. Stay in the ocean room and just wake up happy.

We were there to get married and they upgraded our room to N.8. This hotel changed my opinion of noisy Nassau and make me see it as the real paradise that it is.

Room Tip: Ocean Room (n.8 and n.7)
