Let me start by saying we were not sure about staying here after reading some of the reviews. We have traveled to over a dozen all inclusives over the years in the Caribbean, Mexico and South America. This was our first trip to the Bahamas and first to a Melia property. The Melia ranks amoung the best. In my opinion, if a person was not happy with this hotel, they either had a thorn in their rear end before they arrived or are the type that find fault in anything and everything to create drama in their lives.

The check in was smooth. We arrived early, approx 11:30am, our room was ready and check in took approx 5-10 minutes. Our room was excellent, premium ocean view as we booked. Our room had been updated. The entry and bathroom have tile floors, bedroom area was carpet. We preferred the warm feel of carpet in the bedroom area. The bed was very comfortable (as we would expect). The air conditioner worked well and was quiet. We slept like logs every night. The room and room areas of the hotel are quiet. We did not hear any construction noise. We could see where the construction areas were but never saw or heard any work taking place.

The food and service was excellent. We ate at all the restaurants. Our favorite was the Mexican. We also enjoyed the Italian and Asian. The buffet also had very tasty food. Service was also exceptional. The servers always would come back by and ask if we needed anything or wanted a refill. If there was something I would recommend is a change to their reservation system. They only let you make a reservation in the morning for the same evening dining. It was just inconvenient to get up at 7am to get in line for the 8am opening of taking reservations. I was down there by 7:30 and the line was already 10-12 long. Their Melia online app for reservations does not work. They said it was a known computer issue. That being said, we never had an issue making or getting a reservation.

The evening entertainment was ok, this could be improved upon. The best nights were Caribbean night and Karaoke night. The Host/activity director (i can't remember his name, maybe Larry) did an excellent job. He was funny and kept everyone engaged in the activities. He also handled the pool side activities.

The hotel has beautiful landscaping, clean and well maintained, beach is beautiful and clean. You could see the staff cleaning and picking up throughout the day. Housekeeping also did an excellent job, always stocked everything up and clean. The staff would always smile and say hello when passing. When we first got there, we has a questions on where things were at, directions, etc, and everyone was eager to help.

We did 2 excursions, the Balmora Island and the City Tour. We enjoyed both. We also took the bus, bus 10, $1.25 per person, to town to walk around. We enjoyed the Bahamas and when we return, it will be to the Melia.

Room tip: Recommend ocean view room, upgraded rooms on upper level floors

Dear Bahamaian,

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with with review. We are truly happy to know that you enjoyed the food and found our hotel clean and our guest rooms comfortable. We do apologize for the inconvenience regarding information regarding the security deposit. The security deposit is a guarantee in the event of a charge and is released following departure. There is construction adjacent to our property which is expected to continue for a period of 18 to 24 months. It is anticipated that the construction work will only consist of low rise buildings, minimally invasive waterscapes, hardscapes, pool and activity areas. Construction will occur daily primarily between 9:00 am and 6:00 pm and you may experience some noise between these hours. We are in communication with the project management team and every effort is being made to minimize guest impact.

Thank you for choosing to stay with us and it is our hope that you do return soon.

Regards,
Chevaz Chambers, Resident Manager

This Hotel is not Handicap friendly by No means. I was using a mobilty scooter. None of the doors to exit on pool or resturant level open automatically. You Must use your room key or push a button which are located in a corner that can not be reached unless you get out of chair. Some doors open inward which makes it impossible to get out. I found my self waiting for someone to come along to hold the door open so I could enter or exit.( In some cases I waited for 10 mins or longer for someone to come along) The elevator doors close so fast you can't get in without the door closing on you. This made it necessary to have someone escort me every where I went. We had 4 rooms booked all 4 rooms were not ready at the same time. Front desk gave out rooms as they became available. This spaced our checkin time, i didn't get my room until 4pm. Some of my party were in the pool while i waited in the lobby.

Room tip: Get a room close to elevators, as hallway is very narrow making using a scooter almost impossible

Dear AI D,

Thank you for taking the time to review. I am truly sorry you did not enjoy your visit to Melia Nassau Beach. With our Hotel being one of the first constructed in this locale in earlier years, every day we work diligently to improve overall accessibility of our facility. With this said, we have recently added automatic doors and ramps at our Market place restaurant to improve access . Our signage throughout the property has been outfitted with braille for the visually impaired. We also have plans in the immediate future to upgrade our wheel chair lift . I would love to be afforded to opportunity to discuss any further suggestions that you may have and can be contacted at anytime at Chevaz.Chambers@melia.com.

Sincerely,
Chevaz Chambers, Resident Manager

This hotel claims to multiple restaurants but what it really had is many places to sit around wait for food and hope it arrives. Sometimes it is 30 minutes just to get a menu!

Stayed here with a large group for a wedding. The food service is nonexistent. We were at the Japanese restaurant over 2 hours when we walked out because food had not been served. Then charged 10 for room service! Unacceptable in my mind.

One good thing in the hotel are bartenders, always easy to a drink.

We traveled for senior trip with our kids at another resort. We could never get dinner reservations in any restaurant and were never told that we needed to make them to eat in any restaurant. Make sure you tip your housekeeper if you want towels and toilet paper. The construction outside of our room was very loud and disturbing. The best thing I had...the banana rum daiquiri.

Room tip: Ask before you check in not to be by construction zone. Very loud, very early.
