“A so-so Sandyport”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 14, 2013

I stayed at Sandyport July 3rd-8th, the whole property itself was very quiet and cool looking. There is a big pool in the middle with a small slide, there are hammocks and lounge chairs all around the perimeter of the property which I thought was really cool. There are fish ponds going under bridges and an outdoor ping pong table by the pool. After our 3rd day there we realized on the other side of the property there was a very nice beach, literally less than a 5 min walk from my room and a very beautiful restaurant on the beach as well. Make sure you ask all the basic questions at front desk when you first get there so you can take advantage of all the services they offer. Lady Sarah works at guest services and she helps you with all your daily excursions, trips and recommends where to go, very helpful. We went fishing and had a ton of fish, so we had chef Cleveland cook it for us and it was delicious! You pay a $35 flat rate and sit by the beach while you get unlimited drinks and eat a wonderful meal!

The not so good things is that there is a water curfew after 9pm, so water gets shut off, tons of maintenance workers on site which is great to see improvements but they would literally start hammering near my room at around 7am! Very annoying. I was not told of all the services offered here when I checked in so that was a big bummer on my last day knowing all these cool things that they had. Make sure to ask! It's not top notch service, it's more about doing things on your own and being on your own.

I has a wonderful time at Sandyport. The grounds are beautiful and flowers in fulll bloom. The maintenance crew visible at all times taking care of the property and the rooms. You can notice the improvements in the units ,flat screen tv and new furniture. They are still upgrading units with stainless appliances and counter tops. I can't say enought about the front staff, they are professional, friendly and available, especially Lady Sarah and Mr Moss . 2.5 miles from property are good restaurants , Poop Deck, Nesditt, Marco and Spritz. I will be going back to Sandyport.

we stayed here for one night only (thankfully). In late May, it was like a ghost town and very worn indeed. the front desk staff were very helpful but the facilities were old, tired and old and in need of a serious facelift. The food situation was especially poor, there did not appear to be an on site restaurant or anything within walking distance to go too.

The management seem to have an agreement with some local cooks who served up a barbaque on polystyrene plates with plastic forks. the food had been heated for hours and was well stewed and very poor value at $18

The room we were in had an inter communicating door with other apartments which have virtually no soundproofing, so you can hear everything next door....

Room Tip: Don't book

From booking the trip and activities with Lady Sarah, the hospitality of Cameron and Sharone at the front desk, personality and beverages at the beach with Chef Cleveland, Mr Moss's attention with a personal matter, we enjoyed an outstanding time and look forward to our return next year!

Stayed a rainy week and that did not help my attitude, but really this facility has lacked proper maintenance for several years. Stay here for the modest rates but be prepared to lower your standards. Peeling paint on the bridges. Toilet seats with only one hinge. Cracked wash basins. Leaky faucets and rusty parts. And the coup de gras, two days without hot water.
The staff is friendly but move at their own pace. The room was clean when we arrived, smelling of chlorine. ( from a disinfectant?) We had to get room keys remade three times.
The pool was never very clean but became unusable by the heavy rain. Tennis or basketball anyone? The court surface sags in the middle so after every rain shower there is an inch or two of water to play through. The ocean beach was easy to get to but no one ever used it since they never clean the trash and sea weed off the sand.
Good things are the easy access to the rest of the island using the number 10 or 12 buses for just $1.25 apiece. The Tuesday night BBQ was okay, but none of the steaks, ribs, chicken, or burgers had ever seen a grill. Restaurants and stores within walking distance are good but pricey for anyone staying at a budget-wise resort.
This was an award winning resort years ago but I give it one and a half stars today.

Dear DOLadd,

I am so sorry that your experience at Sandyport did not meet yours or our expectations. The weather that we had for the full week of your stay was extraordinary. The rain broke all records for the month and we, unfortunately experienced most of it during your stay. Schools closed, communities flooded, I was along with many others without electricity at my home for three days. This must have been so disappointing for you.

We tried very hard to help our guests make the most of really what was miserable weather. We arranged additional indoor activity trips including the rum factory, chocolate factory, cigar making demonstrations, the pirates museum and art gallery. We did not cancel the BBQ which we usually hold outside by the pool but you are right the food had to be prepared differently to normal.

We do not normally have difficulty with our Hot Water but due to the excessive rains we did have a complication and I do apologize. I understand that compensation was given. We mobilized on Monday a construction fix to resolve this problem going forward.

We are working very hard on the resort and usually we are complimented on the atmosphere, our hospitality and our tranquil island feel. I am sorry that this was marred by the weather. I do hope that you will try us again in the future when we will hopefully have our more usual sunny weather.

Kind Regards

We spent May 18th to May 25th at this resort in a beautiful one bedroom unit overlooking the lagoon. The unit was spotless due to the tireless efforts of Siliane, our fantastic housekeeper. Every single staff member we met during our stay was friendly, helpful and more than cheerful, starting with the manager, Mr. Vernon Moss, and Lady Sarah, who has a wonderful sense of humor. Cincinetti at reception is a stand out and is very knowledgeable about restaurants and places of interest in the area. The grounds are meticulously kept. There weren't that many guests staying during our time there, so we enjoyed the uncrowded pool and beach.

I'm pretty sure this place would be a gold crown RCI property with the addition of a fully stocked pool/beach bar and maybe a small attached restaurant where you could go for breakfast. Chef Cleveland does a fine job, but he works in a small area, so if more than a few people show up for breakfast, I could see problems. Some people we met had him prepare dinner for their group, and raved that it was the best meal they had in Nassau. You tell him what you want and he shops and prepares for you. The restaurants within walking distance of the resort are great. If you don't care to walk, the front desk will arrange for the security cart to take you. The Twisted Lime Restaurant and Bar also has a cart to pick you up and bring you back.

Thank you, Sandyport, for your hospitality. We plan to return, and would love to see that bar on the beach.

Dear MFeinhals11,

“Greatest Staff Ever”! Wow! Thank you so much. Our team loves the job that we do and it makes our day when we delight our guests. Thank you for mentioning so many of our team. We love to read such wonderful compliments.

We are working on gaining the RCI Gold Crown award and are continuing to improve our property. We are proud of our Silver but are certainly going for Gold. Thank you for offering your suggestions on how we can improve. We are pleased to hear that you will be back again soon as we are working on upgrades to the pool bar.

Thank you for all of your excellent dining tips too. Hope to see you soon.
