“Relaxation At Sandals”
Reviewed April 13, 2007

We departed our Conn. home when it was 20 degrees. We had a smooth flight to New Providence, Bahamas. It was 75 degrees upon our arrival. SPRING! It was a comfortable 80 degrees the rest of the week. The service at the Sandals was excellent. Everyone was friendly and helpful. We were hoping to do nothing and just relax, get some sun and enjoy each others company, eat well and perhaps read a good book. There was entertainment for those who wanted.... We enjoyed the lively piano bar. I also enjoyed a spa treatment! Heaven!! We enjoyed every meal and went to all of the restaurants at the resort. We liked Casanovas and the Cricket Pub very much. The breakfast buffets at Spices were very satisfying and offered a huge variety of dishes to choose from. But mostly we enjoyed sun, sea and relaxed. We were not disappointed.
We look forward to going back.

We booked our wedding at the Sandals Royal Bahamian Spa Resort and the day could not have been any perfect! We chose November and the weather was warm and pleasant. The service was 5 star for the whole duration and the food was also to a very high standard. The Bahamian people are a very warm nation and we would love to be able to go back. The wedding planners were extremely helpful and they made our day simply special. Beach was clean with crystal clear waters and the private island is a luxurious treat. We used all the facilies including beauty treatments, sauna and steam room. The only negative comment was the standard of the rooms. If you have a standard room in the main hotel I believe they are dated. The rooms in the villas are better, although smaller. We were informed the resort is due tor updating in 2010 and we will return after this time. All in all 10 out of 10!

It's been six months since our trip to Sandals in Nassau so that means we've also been married for six months now. We had a wonderful time, stayed for six nights, and got to take in all that the resort had to offer as well as have plenty of down time to do nothing, in fact lots of it. The resort has an event schedule but we threw it out
the window upon arrival and found this to be the best approach to a great time. With the exception of our wedding ceremony on the pier, our dinner reservations at Gordon's on the Pier, and one visit to the
spa not a single time was set for us throughout our stay. Our butlers
Freddy and Vincent were wonderful and kept us surrounded by champagne, rose petals, about 15 bottles of liquor, soft drinks, and snacks. We enjoyed ordering room service late at night (one night we had french fries, conch chowder, and hot chocolate delivered to the room at 3AM), where else could you get an eclectic offering like that
brought to your bedside in the middle of the morning. If there were one thing about the resort that I had to single out that wasn't perfect it was the food in general. The resort has a number of restaurants and unfortunately they're not all of equal quality, although the service at all was impeccable. If you're staying in a butler level room you can eat at Gordon's on the Pier for free and your butler will try to schedule you there for one night during your stay. This is where you can double the quality of your resort experience... request politely or demand to eat dinner at Gordon's two or three times. The quality of the food is at least twice that of every other restaurant on the property. If I were in NYC or Chicago a dinner at this level would cost roughly $150/person. The food and service are exceptional and you get one of only about 10 tables at the end of the pier. Each night we dined there we enjoyed live romantic music which was very neat. I've included a picture from
dinner there. Overall this is a great resort and the private island they have is really cool as well. Spend some time there in the morning before anyone shows up or in the late afternoon after everyone leaves. The wedding itself was expensive and quaint and could have been done better, but what can you expect running away to the Caribbean to get married :) All things considered the butler level rooms very convenient and fun but you can save a lot of money just getting a regular room. If you're traveling for an extra-special event and you want to save some cash, just get the cheap room, everything else in the resort is available to you just the same, and you'll save some money that you can spend at the spa, at Gordon's on the Pier, or doing a private dinner on the beach. Make sure to do all of these regardless.

We arrived at Sandals Royal Bahamian, and were greeted with warm face clothes to refresh ourselves after our long trip, unfortunately you cannot travel direct to the Bahamas from Halifax so you have to go through Toronto. Inside an hour, we were in our room in the original building which met all expectations, as we went and had lunch, while our bags were delivered to our rooms. The bar service was as expected as the bartenders in the main lounge quickly got to know the patrons, and normally knew your drink when you sat down. My wife and I don't go for the fruity drinks and normally only drank one while at the pool swimup bars usually a mudslide. The Strawberry daiquri and pina coladas were not freshly made but had the base poured into a glass from a slurppy machine and the rum was poured over them. The evening meals were quite good at the specialty restaurants. Breakfast was buffett as was lunch. They have one fast food restaurant open until early morning hours for the night owls which usually was the English style pub. The meals were well prepared and appetizing. The only down side was the entertainment at the showroom as the room was really warm and uncomfortable. The sing along with the piano player (Michael) appeared to be well received by all.
One minor annoyance as we never used the elevator but used the stairs only , this areas needs more attention from cleaning staff as the same beer can and dust bunnies laid in the stairwell for the entire visit even after it was mentioned to staff.
One of the highlights was you can walk out the resort entrance and get on bus # 10 and go directly to downtown for $1.00US and $1.00 return. Bus service ends at 6PM. You can also use the water taxi between Paradise Island and downtown for $3 US this is a cheap informative ride as the taxi captain narrates some history and information about homes of the famous residing or owning property in Nassau.
As Sandals are couples only, you don't have to worry about problems at the Disco, plus with their age restriction you don't have to worry much about watching younger people wretching and throwing up as we witnessed at other all inclusives resort. We have stayed at 4 other Sandals resorts and would highly recommend the Sandals Resorts.

Stayed at Sandals, Nassau Bahamas, June 2006. My daughter was married there. It was fantastic. The rooms, the service, the food, everything is top notch! The staff is wonderful. Everything from the time you arrive until you depart is handled for you. The wedding consultant was awesome. As was the wedding and the free reception of cake and champagne. Guests were allowed to come for the day from other resorts. And then you can go to one of the restaurants for you and your guests to share a great wedding feast free of course. Your guests can arrive for the wedding free, or pay for a pass to stay the day and enjoy all amenities. Everyone loved the wedding, the pictures, and above all Sandals! ps.. we spent a day on Sandals private island, and it was fantastic. great restaurant and food, no bugs, no mosquitos, no sand fleas as I've heard some say in reviews. We had an all-around great experience. I would go back in a minute.

My wife and I had a lovely time a staying at the Sandals Royal Bahamian in February of 2006. We had stayed at the Sandals Grande in St Lucia the previous February and had a wonderful time, and it also set the bar for Sandals resorts.

We are not beach people, and prefer a garden view to an ocean view. We got a view of the building across the courtyard, overlooking the pool. My mistake, as I had asked for an ocean view, and you can kind of see the ocean if you lean out on the balcony. Next time we stay there we would book a cottage for a real garden view.

My wife is very much an enthusiast of nature, and one of the things she wanted to see on the trip was the Bahama Woodstar. While we did see one, it was off property and we did have to look all over New Providence. We did not encounter any insects, which while it was a pleasure, does indicate a use of something to keep them away. At St Lucia, across from our room there was a hill covered with flowers and it was Grand Central Station for the Green-throated Caribe. We had expected to see the Woodstar on property in the garden area. A small disappointment, and not Sandals' fault.

The in-room bar at the Bahamian was a let-down, in comparison to St Lucia, we knew none of the brands and they were not good. Easily remedied as there is a liquor store across the street from the resort.

We took out a sailboat mid-week, the sea was very choppy but as we were not familiar with the area we assumed it was the norm. Later we were told, by the attendant at the boathouse, that it was very choppy and windy. This was after we flipped the boat about a mile out (we had come about and failed to shift our weight fast enough, the boom came about and wind caught it broadside just as we topped the wave crest, over we went). We righted the boat with the help of one of the staff, and sailed it back ourselves, it would have been nice to know we were dealing with conditions that were not normal for sailing the small boats.

The restaurants were good, food tasty and well-presented, service was good and all the staff were friendly.

The island itself was very nice, and contrary to things we had read and heard, we never felt at risk. We both have a good measure of common sense (boat adventure notwithstanding), and using that we were very comfortable. We walked into town when we felt like it, and took the reliable, clean and comfortable public transit otherwise. We walked through Nassau, walked to the Atlantis resort, and found it very much overpriced and overblown. We walked to the zoo, the botanical preserve, roads are good, traffic reasonable, and the people are friendly. In the more tourist-trap areas you do meet a number of people with a hand out, none were threatening, and some we greeted with a smile and "no thanks", others we tipped if they were entertaining (like the Junkanoo man downtown, yes, he's a bit tipsy most of the time, but he's friendly, not aggressive, and he works for his tips).

Overall we had a lovely time. There were, as noted above, some improvements that could be made, some things that could have made the trip better, but when we asked, the resort staff responded. Some of the issues would have inspired a more spoiled U.S. citizen to rate the resort lower, but having traveled and experienced so much in our 40-something years, my wife and I know better than to blame Sandals for the rain we got for 30 minutes on Thursday, and that if you have special dietary needs you don't blame the restaurant.

When you read these reviews, please take into consideration that some people are just whiny by nature and nothing makes them happy. I usually take the total number of reviews and determine the percentage of 5's and 4's, then the 1's and 2's. Then read through some of the 1's and 2's to see what really upset them (like construction nearby or weather or their own sensitive digestive system), some could be valid, too many are not.

Best of luck, and be careful traveling.
