Sandals Royal Bahamian Spa Resort & Offshore Island

The Royal Bahamian Resort is a beautiful place. We had a terrific stay. The pools and beach are phenominal. The food is quite good although the service can be slow around the traditional dinner hours. The transfer from the airport is smooth and easy. Check in is quick and informative.

The workers and servers are so nice and quick to help in any way they can. Our only problems came from other vacationers. We had people steal our chairs while we were in the pool and others that wouldn't share their shade on the beach. When it is literally 100 degrees or more, shade is in short supply and very much necessary. People need to be more accomodating of their fellow resort stayers.

Room Tip: The Balmoral Tower was a great place to stay. It's right in the middle of all the action. It'...

This is our second Sandals trip, the last one being Whitehouse in Jamaica in 2009. On balance, though the Bahamian is smaller, its significantly better, cleaner, and more efficient. We were in the 3rd floor beach-frontage of the Balmoral tower, which was a really spacious room with a big shady balcony. To be honest, I got so confused by the manifold room options on the Sandals website that in the end I just called their reservations centre, told them we wanted an upper floor beach-view with balcony and mini-bar, and let them sort it out, which they did perfectly.

The airport transfer is only 15 minutes on a really chilled modern bus (another point over Jamaica!) and our check-in was smooth and quick. About the staff in general, I read a few criticisms from other reviewers, but we experienced nothing but smiling, friendly and helpful staff all day, every day and I would highly commend the management who seem to have everything running like clockwork!

There's wifi everywhere for about $45 a week (not bad, and it allows two devices simultaneously) but its pretty slow and the bandwidth is patchy inside the buildings. And the A/C in our room was a bit like living by the airport, but we found if we switched it off about 11pm, we were still quite cool by 7am.

We spent days at both pools, both of which have swim-up bars, plenty of shades and beds (though it wasn't high season in July) and are kept very clean. The Party Pool (Windsor?) was mostly low-key fun, and the other pool (Balmoral?) was just low-key, and the two are perfectly insulated from each other.

Regarding food; coming from London we didn't really bother too much about "fine dining" as we can't be bothered with all that pre-booking nonsense. The main buffet restaurant (Spices) did the job for us, even if the selection got a little repetitive after a few days. We tried the Italian (not impressed) and the Cricketers Pub (not bad Fish & Chips), and the Pizza place and the Panini place for lunch, which were adequate. Also, my wife reports that they have dramatically improved the house wines over the last couple of years! Even the faux-champagne was quite drinkable this time!

The resort beach is quite compact, but very clean and well managed, and the sea has sandy bottom and rocky breakwaters so it's really nice for swimming. We went out to the Island (Sandals Cay) but the beaches there are steep and the waterline is rocks and coral, so we didn't stay long. On the island is just like a 'mini-Sandals' but for us it added nothing special. However, all the honeymooners we met (and that's a LOT) absolutely loved it out there (there are some secluded spots :)

There are plenty of amenities just outside the resort gates, including a Burger King and a Subway (just in case you feel the compulsion) and an excellent pharmacy. You can walk there in 2 minutes.

Sandals is relatively expensive, especially if you're traveling from Europe, and it has a bit of a 'Stepford Wives' feel to it, but if you want a big pub in a swimming pool and a total absence of kids, stag & hen parties, beach vendors and people holding their hand out for a tip, then its the perfect place for you. However, you need to be ready for this ----->

Departing from Nassau Airport; If you are flying to or THROUGH the States, you MUST go through US Immigration pre-clearance at Nassau (EVEN if you are transiting to somewhere else outside USA, and EVEN if you are a US citizen). So be prepared to queue (standing up) for 60-90 minutes, plus 15-30 minutes for the local security checks. Be at the airport AT LEAST 2.5 hours before your departure time, or there's a very good chance you'll miss your flight.

On the whole we really liked the Bahamas (what we saw of it) and Sandals looked after us perfectly. In general, I can't fault it.

Room Tip: Decide what facilities and view you want then call Sandals Reservations. The website is much too com...

We had a wonderful week at Sandal's Royal Bahamian in May. This was our second visit to Nassau and we really enjoyed our stay. The resort is up to the high standards that we expect to see in a Sandals property from the rooms, to the food, to the staff.

We booked a villa suite in the Royal Village which is located in the quiet gardens and we were very happy with the room and the location. The Royal Village has three small pools if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the two main pools. We also tried the butler service for the first time at Sandals and were pleased with all the extras that come with this service, including the private car service to/from the airport, assistance with restaurant reservations, cabana reservations on the island, special treats left for us in the room and many other wonderful touches.

The food was great, again Sandals sets a much higher standard compared to over all-inclusive resorts. Gordon's on the Pier and Baccarat were our favorites. As well we had a delightful dinner at Cafe Goombay on the island on our last night. There are numerous bar locations at the resort so do don't have to go very far for a drink. Our butlers also kept our in room bar will stocked in our preferred drinks as well!

Our favorite place at the resort was the island. We went there serveral days on our trip and our butler reserved a quiet cabana each time. If you are looking for a quiet place to relax and recharge this is the place. There is a beautiful beach and terrific snorkeling on the island, as well as a pool and a great little restaurant. One of the highlights on the island was finding a chilled bottle of champagne waiting for us with some treats.

We finished our week at Sandals Royal Bahamian feeling relaxed and recharged - we can't wait to go back again!

My husband and I went to this resort at the end of July for our 2 yr anniversary. (We are in our upper 20's). This was our first time going to a Sandals resort and will not be our last.

Food:
There was many options for food and overall it was all great! There is 3 restaurants to make reservations for and would recommend to make them asap, as they book quickly. I met many couples that didn't get to reserve all the restaurants because they were already booked.

Drinks at pool bar took a long time to get.

Entertainment:
There were several activities every night to keep you busy and entertained. They also had a great / fun entertainment crew during the day making you laugh and getting you involved at one of the pools with great music.

Excursions:
Sailing, paddle boarding, kayaking, snorkeling, and diving was all included through the resort. We were very happy with all of these free options and didn't have to spend money on excursions. The snorkeling was great.
They also offered a free excursion to rose island and tour through town on a boat while we were there because they had to close down part of beach and pool for part of the day for a photo shoot. We went to that and it was great as well.
We went to downtown to shop, but don't really recommend that unless you really want to do a lot of shopping. We concluded we would rather be on the beach.

General:
This was our first time at an adults only hotel and reallllly enjoyed it. There was alot of young couples we met and hung out with each night and everyone is relaxed and having a great time. No kids to hear or bother you either!
The hotel was beautifully decorated inside and out. Beach was gorgeous. Private island was awesome.
All employees were so very nice, always greeting you and holding doors.
Beautiful sunset, and water is crystal clear.
Don't really recommend the butler unless you just really have the money and want someone waiting on you.

Room Tip: Don't choose the honeymoon garden villas. They are nice and spacious but old/smelly and in the b...

Traveled from New York for 5 days to Sandals. This was our second time at this resort. We had a great vacation. We stayed in the Windsor tower. Our room was Beautiful, view of ocean and pool. We had wine on our Balcony ever Nite and it was always replaced the next day. We loved the new fire pit area by the beach . The singer was great and it was so relaxing. We spent 2 perfect afternoons on the Private Island and it was Beautiful. All our dinners ,lunches and breakfast were Great. Danced all nite in Cricketers , so much fun. I could watch Antoine dance all nite, what a beautiful person he is. Really got the party going every nite. Thanks to my Wonderful Travel agent Ruth Demuth from Trip Guy Travel, as always a flawless job.

We stayed in the Balmoral Tower since it was the newest building. We were very happy as the bathrooms were modern, the beds and pillows extremely comfortable and everything was kept extremely clean. Since it was our 10th anniversary and we were renewing our vows, we splurged and got the butler service and stayed in the penthouse on the 6th floor with an ocean view. We had considered going to Atlantis but saved a significant amount of money by going to Sandals and I am SOOO glad we did. We toured Atlantis one day and while it's a cool place with a "disney feel", my husband and I were happier that Sandals was adults only, all inclusive, smaller and much more personable. EVERY single staff person at Sandals wanted to make sure you had the best time while there. Not having staff expect tips allows the atmosphere to be very laid back and you can see that staff really did care that you had a great experience. We had Melissa, Ekron and Thomas as our butlers and they were great. They did not overwhelm us (as we've never done anything like get a butler service before) but hung out w us a bit and just made sure we had everything we needed...plus a few surprises like chocolate covered strawberries, a bath in our room one nite, and little notes and scenes on the bed for our turndown service.
Having the butler service was great because they made our dinner reservations for us and we got to eat at almost every restuarant. The steaks I had at Gordon's Pier, the Crystal Room and Baccarrat were excellent and my husband enjoyed the Snow Crab Legs at the Crystal Room. The breakfast buffetts were good. Baccarrat does a sit down breakfast but it's the same food as the buffett, I believe. There is a brick oven pizza place in between the two pools that is AMAZING!!! We had pizza for lunch almost daily.
There were plenty of hot tubs and having the two pools was nice. There were always chairs available, usually with umbrella's by the pools. The "loud" pool was nice (it was not "cancunish"), the music was NOT obnoxiously loud - it just had an entertainment crew that got some games going and made everyone laugh. We played a lot of pool volleyball for fun - not competition and met great people while doing so. Unlike other resorts we've stayed at, you can go in the hot tubs and pools as late as you want, they don't close down at a specific time. The beaches were really nice - we had a little trouble with some tiny jellyfish, but it was just a nuisance not a real problem. The snorkeling was AMAZING! The beach was a good size, again with plenty of chairs. But the private island was a great option as the beach is bigger over there and the snorkeling was as good as going on any trip. We saw sea turtles, squid, barracuda and a bunch of cool fish just off the beach on the island. The island has tons of cabanas and as long as you were there by noon, you'd have no trouble getting one.
The evening entertainment was better than other resorts we stayed at. They had a piano bar which was very lively every nite. They had billiards, bocce ball etc. There were shows every nite. The comedian they had was actually one of the better comedians we've seen! They had live music on the beach twice and it was awesome just sitting by the firepits or on your balcony listening to the music while looking at the ocean. They had a battle of the sexes show which was pretty funny.
Some extras: We had dinner on the beach which is fun to do one time - it was in the cabana - great service! We also had our vow renewal done on the beach. I was worried it was going to be over the top, considering that my husband and i wanted it private and didn't invite anyone with us. But it was just what we wanted, small and intimate and we got some amazing photos out of it. Chavon was our photographer and I'd highly recommend him if you're getting photos done. We went into town ourselves one day - it was very safe, just cost $1.25 to catch the #10 bus which stops right outside the resort - shopping and the zoo are easily accessible. The water park at Atlantis was lots of fun and we checked out their aquarium one day (costs about $125 per person to do that though).
Some tips: On the way home, make sure you get to the airport with plenty of extra time as customs took 2 hours when leaving. Purchase snorkel gear before you come because you get so much out of it right off the beach.
I loved this vacation because we never had any problems from the moment we left - you got exactly what you expected, the staff made our stay amazing, the private island was a neat option and there was so much to do if you wanted to stay active. The next time we travel we are definitely going back to a Sandals.

Room Tip: Balmoral Tower was recently constructed, so it is modern, clean, has amazing bathrooms and a comfort...

Have a suite in the Royal Windsor. Staff exceedingly friendly. All meals have been good to excellent. This is a couples resort- no kids. Stayed at a lot of these all inclusives Cancun, Dominican, Jamaica . This is by far the best. Don't compare this to Atlantis. A completely different scene. Besides casinos are becoming so passé. Having a suite with an ocean view is awesome. Get the butler service. They know what they are doing here.
