Owner description: The Ardastra Gardens, Zoo & Conservation Centre is a peaceful 80 year-old retreat spread over 4 acres of lush tropical gardens. It is a boutique zoo that specializes in bird rescue & rehabilitation, education, preservation of history and conservation of natural resources. Ardastra is home to many native species of plants and animals - including the Bahamas National Bird, the beautiful and exotic Caribbean Flamingo. We are well-known for our animal encounters that allow visitors to get "up close "with some of our residents. We encourage all of our visitors to take a guided tour for a better appreciation of our residents and our property. To maximize enjoyment, we also encourage our guests to schedule their visits around our Signature Showtimes: 10:30am, 1:30pm or 3:30pm. You can participate in the "Flamingo Experience", a unique show of the glory and antics of these incredible creatures together with an excellent narration of their story. Guests can also hand-feed the colourful and playful South Pacific Lory Parrots and have numerous photographic opportunities during your visit. While walking the Gardens, friendly and informed staff will answer questions while two-legged feathered friends will freely entertain. Light refreshments are available at the "Parrot Pit Stop". "Toby's Treasures" is filled with gifts/souvenirs so that you can take a piece of Ardastra home with you.

This is a small zoo, with native trees and plants. We did not get to see the marching flamingos, but the flamingos themselves roam free, as do a lot of peacocks. It was good deal for the price.

We just got back from a wonderful cruise on Carnival Sensation (five stars) - after reading lots of bad reviews I was very pleased...I don't know why there are so many bad reviews - the room was great, the staff were friendly, the food was excellent, we had many quiet moments to watch the sunset from the adults only (quiet!) Serenity Lounge on the aft deck. I never felt harassed to buy cocktails like some people complained...I can't give Carnival credit for the gorgeous weather but I will give them top marks for the way they managed to make embarking and debarking such a smooth process...we waited no longer than 10 minutes anywhere on the whole trip!
Our second day in the Bahamas was to have been paddle boarding and snorkeling but unfortunately the weather didn't cooperate that day - but the staff quickly arranged an alternative of a bus tour and trip to Ardastra. It was a great way to get an overview of the area and I would love to go back and explore a little more (they only stop at a fort and the zoo)...in the meantime the small Ardastra Gardens and zoo was a peaceful way to spend some downtime - feeding the lorikeets was lovely and the flamingos were beautiful. I personally did not enjoy the shopping in the Bahamas - haggling with store owners is not my thing but lots of people do enjoy it. Far better to sit and sip an amazing pina colada and watch the world go by.

We went to the zoo while on a port of call. Didn't want to fight the straw market with kids and were going to beach the other ports so after doing some research we decided on the zoo. So glad we did just the right size for the kids took us about an hour and a half. We saw the flamingo show and feed the birds. Nice clean and well staffed. All the staff members were very nice and informative to us. Worth the money and ride over.

the gardens are nice and varied. there are a fair amount of animals and birds on display.. the flamingo show is interesting more of a controlled herding than marching but still fun to watch. its generally a pleasant few hrs worth doing.

We took the family while on a cruise. The zoo is very small but the staff was wonderful. I think we were the only people there that day! We walked from the ship but took a taxi back, just too long of a walk with the crowded streets and a small child. If you do go make sure to feed the birds (worth any cost just for the photos but it is a donation basis). Stay for the marching flamingos and take lots of pictures. Good for any age group and I would go again.
