“Nice Hotel with a lot of history.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 11, 2012

An old hotel with a lot of history overlooking the cruise ship port. On the beach, so sit back on the beach with a drink and watch the cruise ships and patrons come in and out of port. Close to shopping, quaint shops, and restaurants. Also a short cab ride to Paradise Island.

This hotel is a fantastic property. It has everything one can hope for. Service is great. Numerous rooms. A breathtaking view. Awesome harbor in the back. Fantastic beach. It's in Nassau...what can I say? First time there, but Nassau is awesome. Room is elegant. Nicely decorated. Well appointed. Rate was high. I might have done better shopping on my own but this was booked by a business colleague who clearly did not shop it. And therein lies the problem. I HATE this disgusting nickel and dime mentality of the major chains, particularly Hilton, for not including internet access with their high rates. In the modern era this is disgusting. I actually do not stay at hotels that charge extra for what should now be as routine as air conditioning. But frankly, that is all I can really gripe about. The breakfast was great. Good options with fresh fruit and juices and pastries. Security not an issue. Location awesome. Sorry guys! The five star rating is lost with with your corporate greed. Otherwise, no complaints.

Room Tip: Get an ocean view room....forget the city view...this is what makes it happen...get in the pool and...

The customer service made the hotel visit a success. I would give 5+ plus stars. The front desk clerks, the housekeepers, and the pool / towel guys were outstanding. Marklen stood out to me. He was very friendly and helpful providing recommendations.

The pool area was great with enough lounge chairs, cabanas, beach chairs for all the guests. Keep in mind it wasn't crowded so that was very nice for us.

Very good stop if you are docked from a cruise ship for a relaxing day!

We didn't like the ocean water due to some very small white particles floating around. Not sure if it was a result of the cruise ahips or not, but We stayed by the pool the entire time.

The overall rating of 4 is because the prices are a bit expensive. Plan on spending $10 - 12 for a mixed drink or 7 for a beer.

We went across the street to the liquor store for water, Gatorade, beer etc to save some money.

The breakfast buffet was very good, but again plan on spending $40 - 50 for any meal in Nassau. It is pricey no matter what restaurant you visit.

Watching the cruise ships comes in and out was very interesting to us.

Make sure you try Athena cafe and Luciano's restaurant while you visit downtown Nassau.

Oh - we went to the gym daily as well. They have a great fitness center with treadmills, elliptical, weights, towels for guests, etc.

The harbor view room we received since we were celebrating out honeymoon, was a perfect size. Thanks for the wine and rum cake. That was a nice touch by the hotel.

Would recommend and stay there again.

Room Tip: Harbor view rooms with access to balcony give you the best view of the ocean, pool area and cruise s...

Stayed on business but definitely could come back for pleasure, the room was very good, had an issue with water leaking from the roof but they switched me to another room quickly. Wifi is good and the amenities look pretty good, as I was here on business, I wasn't able to enjoy the pool or the beach, but the view from my room made it clear that they are amazing. Would definitely come and stay here if on vacation.

The staff are friendly, service slow. Food is quite good for the price. It is the location that makes me come back, private beach, lovely pool. Great new sun loungers on beach and by pool. They keep trying to improve the place, but fail miserably on simple things....one computer that works out of two....so everybody wants that one...long queues. Plenty of other places to find free wifi though. It is a very quiet hotel, even though close to road. Fantastic views from rooms at back. Really comfy beds. Good clean bathrooms with walk in shower and a bath. Useful toiletries, not junk ones. Lovely revamp of all the hotel.

Room Tip: Anything high up on the back of the hotel.

We spent the day in Nassau as the last stop of our cruise and we were so happy with the decision we made! For $50 per person (if you reserve ahead of time with a 20% deposit) you were able to use the facilities from 9-5 and received a $30 food and drink voucher. As soon as we checked in and paid our balance (credit card only) we stepped out into the courtyard walkway to the pool area. It was very well kept and beautiful. We were greeted and shown the towel hut to grab towels. The pool was a nice size and not very crowded at all. There were plenty of lounge chairs, with a mix in the sun and shade, as well as cabana beds and tables with chairs. The pool was well maintained, with a lifeguard on duty and very refreshing. The beach was also very clean, beautiful water with a great view of the cruise port. There are showers at the edge to rinse off before coming back into the pool area.

The food and drinks are expensive, so that $30 won't get you too far. Local beer was $6.70 each and food started at $11 and went up towards $20 for pub style offerings. The high cost of the food and drink is the only thing keeping me from giving this 5 stars!

I would definitely love to return to Nassau and stay at the British Colonial.
