“There is nothing else to visit in Nassau !”
Reviewed February 9, 2014

It is only a short walk from the main street, Bay Street and the Cruise ships, however, there is nothing really to see apart from a set of stairs. It is the idea that slaves were made to dig the stairs out of solid granite which makes it interesting. Watch out for people who call themselves City Guides. The start telling you all about the history of the stairs without invitation then, expect a tip !!

“A "Cool" Place to Visit on a Hot Day”
Reviewed February 8, 2014

We had read the history of this staircase before coming so seeing getting to see it in person held more meaning. It was hot outside (when you are used to -20 Celsius) so this was a welcome place to cool down.

“Great Historical Symbolism”
Reviewed February 3, 2014

It amazes me that the former slaves chose to build this symbolism of appreciation to Queen Victoria of England. There are 64 steps to represent the number of years she reigned. The story that was told to me by Tony, the unofficial tour guide standing at the base of the steps, is that she ordered all slaves to be freed from bondage in 1838 within all of England's colonies of which the Bahamas was one of them. climbing it will take your breath away, but you can always stop for a few minutes. the stairs are very steep though, but once you reach the top then you will feel the cool breeze coming from the top of the hill. There is a restaurant and a few vendors who will sure make the trip up to worth while. There is also a beautiful view of Atlantis that makes a very good photo op

“Beautiful historic place”
Reviewed February 1, 2014

Went for the second time in 4 years. We were on a private tour and we went to the Queen's Staircase. At the top of the stairs there is ALWAYS someone to explain why, when, how it was built. Of course such a service is worth a few $, yes tipping the poor is recommended.

For the photo enthusiast, when the lighting is good it makes for some great pictures.

So far it is the only place in Nassau I would look forward to go again.
