If you are looking for a genuine Bahamian experience, "O Andros" in Arawak Cay is the place to go. The seafood is fantastic: my wife had the fried lobster "snack" ( $18.00) really too much for one person to eat (lobster, fries, and plantains); and I had the fried snapper "snack" (a whole fish fried to perfection with sides) ($8.00).
The restaurant is on the small side with about 10 tables inside (a/c) and a few outside. Service is classic Bahamian- slow but kind and the food is well worth the wait. If you have an hour or so to kill in Nassau, it is worth the trip. Don't go if you are in a rush- enjoy!
Directions: From downtown, take a cab or the No. 10 Jittney ($1.25 per person 7/2010) to Arawak Cay. It is about a 5 - 7 min ride. There are a dozen or so small "restaurants" and bars all in the same area. (some are little more than shacks).
If you are looking for a fancy five-star dinning experience- table clothes and super attentive service, this would not be the place for you. Of course, if that is what you are looking for, Nassau is likely not where you would look.
An honorable mention to the Guinness Stout Foreign Extra at (+/-$2.00)- a stronger sweeter version of the Guinness we have in the US.
