“Great Experience”

We had a great time. Stayed for 1 week, wish we could stay one more! Snorkeling and beach combing are excellent in the bay (Dever's Bay) just 20 yards from the house. You can swim around the point into Chocolate Hole too.

Lots of wildlife. The iguanas are very friendly and only come on the deck if you invite them (by leaving out grapes). Songbirds, Geckos, humming birds, pelicans, and hermit crabs.

Craig and Jennifer (property managers) are very friendly and helpful. House is clean and we'll maintained. Wireless internet is fast and reliable. House has all the small things ( beach towel, coffee maker, printer, cooler, etc) that you need. Jeep rental from homeowner was a good deal too!

“Great open-air beach living”

Our family of four absolutely loved staying at this house! Wonderful open-air living area, with separate air-conditioned bedrooms on each end -- one for the parents, one for the kids. Loved being so close to the ocean, and listening to the waves at night. While eating breakfast each morning, we watched the resident iguanas emerge from the tree tops, and Bananaquits cluster along the deck rails. We spent evenings enjoying the expansive deck overlooking the moonlit bay. Easy to get to everything -- Cruz Bay is about 15 minutes, the grocery store is closer. We recommend the Mampoo Jeep -- it was great not to have to deal with a separate rental company. Beach is rocky, but great for snorkeling -- we saw many chartered boats stop to visit. Craig met us at the ferry with the Jeep, led us to the house, and showed us where to go for groceries and gas. Very helpful. Highly recommended!

“Less than positive experience”

My husband and I were married in St John and we have returned every year since. We have rented directly from homeowners and from agencies. Renting from homeowners has proven to be a less than positive experience.
The worst experience that we've had has been when we rented Mampoo Hill. Upon our arrival we found that the dryer was broken. It took 2 days for the repair man to come to fix it. He arrived unexpectedly and at an inopportune time. My husband surprised me for my Birthday by having a massage therapist come to the house so while trying to enjoy my massage, the repair man was making noise. Next the safe broke and it had our money and jewelry in it. The property manager had no idea how to open it so we had to wait at the house the next day for someone to come from St Thomas to open it.
Then the microwave broke and was never repaired or replaced. The night before we left we needed to do some laundry. After already using the washer we realized that the dryer was broken again which meant that we had to pack wet clothes. I called the property manager and was told were the nearest laundromat was!
We really liked the house and the area but we will be renting from someone else on our next trip to beautiful St John.

“Older openair villa needing TLC”
Reviewed May 11, 2012 for a stay in April 2012

Mampoo Hill is a beautiful older open air villa however it is not very well maintained. Not only was the master bed’s bedpost broken but we had issues with the dryer, microwave & safe being broken. If you are prone to getting a lot of bug bites, this is NOT the place for you; neither Deet nor candles could prevent the bugs from biting. The beach was also a disappointment; the shore was so rocky you couldn’t even take a morning walk. One redeeming quality was the comfy beds. It was so tranquil hearing the waves crash at night but there are no window treatments in the bedrooms so there is very little privacy.
