Our group of six took the ferry over from Red Hook- rented our gear at the ferry dock from Beach Bumz and grabbed a taxi for Maho.
We were hoping to catch a glimpse of a turtle or two but were ecstatic when everyone in the group saw at least 8 each!
We were also able to see a variety of beautifully colored fish while snorkeling around the rocky shoreline on the right side of the beach.
Be sure to take anything that you think you may need because there are not any amenities! And don’t forget your waterproof camera like we did! Pictures of the turtles would have been a huge plus!

If you go to St. Johns, and you want to snorkel with the sea turtles, Maho Bay is the place to go. If you are standing on the beach, the right side of the bay is the best place to see the turtles. You won't be disappointed.

We saw sea turtles, stingrays, and many fish while snorkeling here. Calm water and easy to float in a raft and relax the day away. Close to the road, so easy to take small children. New parking lot.

Maho Bay is a wonderful family beach. Large parking lot across the street with easy beach access. Much different post Irma. No more trees, limited shade. But there are several man made wood huts along the beach for shade. White sand beach. The snorkeling was great. You will always see a lot of turtles here. Also saw large tarpons and stingrays. Recommend this beach.

Do you want to swim with sea turtles? If so, this is the place! I fulfilled a lifelong dream here just this weekend. Swimming with my husband when I noticed he stopped. I slowly turn around and there it was! A hawksbill turtle! The water is crystal clear so you can see several turtles (and even an eel or two) at the same time.

Bring your own equipment to snorkel and you won't regret it. I also recommend that you bring your own refreshments, as there were no vendors the day we went. There is not a lot of shade (probably due to Hurricane María's destruction and the recovery process), but bring your own umbrella or sun shade and you're set. Don't miss this place!

Spent 5 weeks on St John and went to Maho Bay 10-15 times to snorkel and wade in the Bay. There are Sea Turtles galore...big ones and babies which are easy to swim with so enjoy. Snorkel the right hand side (as you face the ocean) and navigate around the shorline all the way to the beach in Little Maho Bay....saw eels, manta rays, lobster, worms, barracuda, fish and even a shark (small) ....coral is coming back but not as colorful as years past due to storm. If you are on St. John, Maho is a must as you will find many local residents hanging out on the beach. There are bathroom facilities but bring your own food & drink.....

Ok, like others, Id rather keep this a secret. I was told there are turtles here and damn if there really were!. In abundance and fairly shallow, about 10-12 feet. They really didnt seem bothered by us but some folks just cant help but stalk them.

Fine sand, easy entry, clear quiet water, plenty of parking post hurricane (they added). No bathrooms, no running water, scant shade. No one there with chairs or umbrellas, so plan to bring your own and your own water and snacks. Its actually kinda nicer that way. It seems a local taxi does comes by occasionally and honks to let people know if they are ready they can hop on but it seems random.

If you wanna see sea turtles stop here. Bring your own supplies food, water, umbrella, snorkeling gear. You cannot rent them here, but we saw lots of turtles, fish and stingrays. Smallish parking lot, but again another gem on St John!
