“Beautiful Beach”

Great swimming and snorkeling on a relatively uncrowded beach. Our grandkids enjoyed snorkeling here, and the water was very calm, which made it fun for all.

“Salt pond in December”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 28, 2013

We hiked down to salt Pond. Probably my least favorite beach, but it was still fun. We snorkeled here and found live conch, plenty of shells to bring home. Just a little buggy. It's a beach that you want to be really prepared for. Take everything with you that you'll need because you don't want to hike back to the car for it if you forget it.

“The Beach with Dual Characteristics”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 26, 2013

This was my favorite beach of our first trip to St John. Nestled at the south-eastern end of the island, is Salt Pond Bay. You have to hike third of a mile down to it from the parking lot, but it is well worth it!

You are greeted by a quiet bay, which is rated excellent for snorkeling (although the water was cloudy from all of the recent rains we'd had), and maybe a wild donkey or two.

However, If you do a little further investigating, you will find a path at the end of the beach, which will lead you through tropical foliage and water (we had to walk through water twice) to Drunk Bay. This side of the bay has crashing waves against the rocks, and a coral-strewn beach.

Visitors to this side have left statues/tributes, composed of materials they've found on the shore. I felt as though I was in a completely different world on Drunk Bay.

Perhaps, that is how it got its name, but I wouldn't suggest you walk this one in an inebriated condition, as a fall on the sharp coral can do some damage. I was wearing flip-flops and slipped on a rock while taking pictures. I had a nasty wound on the heel of my foot, as a result. So I recommend water shoes or sneakers if you plan to check out Drunk Bay.

“Secluded Beach”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 25, 2013

We hiked Ram Head which passes by this beach on the south shore it was very quiet maybe 10-15 people on the beach. Very cool spot takes a while to drive from town but worth it, make sure you see the Drunk Bay sights too!

“Great beach and snorkeling”

Very short walk from the parking area, not many people, and nice cove. We saw 3 large sea turtles in the middle of the cove, what a highlight.
