Owner description: The good news: this world-class stretch of white sand and turquoise water is St. John's most photographed beach, which features a marked underwater trail for beginning snorkelers. The bad news: because of its popularity, it can get very crowded with cruise ship passengers and members of sightseeing tours.

Very nice place to rest and to enjoy the crystal clear water and amazing sand. It is not complicated to reach it from St. Thomas, using ferry and taxi. But it is absolutely a must, especially if there is a nice weather. The Island of St. John itself is a beautiful place with amazing nature ind climate. So, being nearby, do not hesitate to visit this jewel and to enjoy the sun on a perfect beach.

Nice beach but a little more popular with tourists. You'll see more taxi's full of people. They do offer food which is competitively priced. It is a good stop for something basic to eat like a burger, salad or chicken sandwich.

My wife and I are staying at the Ritz Carlton on Saint Thomas and decided to take a trip over to trunk bay on 12/7/14. After a taxi, ferry and taxi we made it to the beach, paid our entrance fee, and walked to the water. I was shocked - I pulled up the trip advisor app to make sure we were in the right place (which was costly - that side of the island doesn't have ATT coverage). The beach and shallow water was FULL of seaweed. Also there was almost no beach left to sit on (perhaps because of the tide, not sure). We contemplated staying for a bit and doing the snorkeling trail but the seaweed was too much for the wife to bear so we left. Plan on $15 for cab ride to Red Hook, $14 for ferry, $16 for cab to beach, $8 for admission + chairs (dirty) and snorkel rental (BYO towel), all prices per pair with tip. Round trip you're looking at around $80 plus rentals. If you're staying at a resort with a nice beach, think twice before you go if you're just looking for a day at the beach.

Less crowded than the popular beaches on St. Thomas, but can take a while to get there from a cruise ship. From Havensight you take a shuttle for $10 to Red Harbor. The ferry to St. John leaves every hour on the hour from Red Harbor and cost $7 each way. A taxi to Trunk Bay is $6. The entrance fee to the park is $4. So, for my wife and I to go cost $100 round trip. You have to pay for everything in cash. Once at the park, it cost $8 to rent a chair with a $50 deposit. It took us 2 hours to get there and 1:45 to get back, but the few hours we had there were amazing.

Beautiful beach and snorkeling but gets crowded when the cruise ships are in. There's a snack bar and chairs for rent.
