Owner description: The good news: this world-class stretch of white sand and turquoise water is St. John's most photographed beach, which features a marked underwater trail for beginning snorkelers. The bad news: because of its popularity, it can get very crowded with cruise ship passengers and members of sightseeing tours.

Trunk Bay is one of the top ten most beautiful beaches in the world, and it is really beautiful! I like to check the cruise ship schedule's and avoid Trunk when there's a cruise ship in, but other than that we have never encountered big crowds. It always seems perfect, not too many people.

Yes, the beach is very small and fills up quickly, but my word, what a view! The water is about the warmest I've seen, although I am a New England boy so take that with a grain of sand ;-). The beach was lovely, although with our tour group we got there late and only got 1.5 hours of quality beach time. I never go to a beach where I don't go into the water, and I enjoyed the warm carribean waves, although it gets deep very, very quickly as there is a sharp dropoff at only 20-30 ft from the beach, and it was over my head. The wave action was also pretty strong, so casual swimmers might get knocked around a little. There is a nice picnic area on the way into the beach mouth and plenty of bathhouses and showers for sand/salt removal. Only 15-20 minutes from the ferry port with some nice scenery along the way. Would like to go back and explore more of the island including trunk next time, perhaps on my own.

It is a beautiful beach for tanning and swimming, but it isn't all that big. At peak times, when cruise ships are in, etc. the quiet beauty of the beach and setting can be disrupted by loud, obnoxious tourists. I recommend going at off-peak times or getting there early in the morning and leaving when the beach gets overrun by people. As far as the facilities are concerned, it is top-notch. As others have mentioned, they have a life guard, a snack shop, changing and showering facilities, etc.

Convenient spot to get a taxi back to your lodging. Jumbie Bay just west is more private. Trunk gets cruise tour traffic.

Always a favorite there! Friends ask to go back when they come to visit. Good food and the Park service keeps it really nicely. After the park closes the beach is just as much fun but do be prepared for bugs after hours. Love Trunk!
