“Biggest Bang for you Buck on the Island!”
Reviewed April 5, 2013

We stayed in the Coral Unit for our 'weddingmoon' on February 13-20. Everything was clean and comfortable. The view is gorgeous from the veranda! It was nice to have a kitchen to make dinners because eating on the island can get very expensive. Ashley was very helpful when we had any questions about getting around the island. Location is pretty good too. We did not rent a car but probably would recommend it. We had to rely on taxis alot. This is true for pretty much anywhere you stay on the island though--either get a car or rely on taxi's. We did walk in to Cruz Bay a couple of times which was a pretty easy walk. Walking back is another story because you will be going uphill. I would definitely stay here again. You will get the most for your money here and not be disappointed!

My husband and I went to St. John March 4 - 11, 2013. We researched a number of places to stay, and decided to go to Serendip. We are so glad we did! It was the perfect place for us, and truly was a beautiful place to be. It was close enough to town, yet far enough to be peaceful.
I prepared breakfast every day, and dinners about 4 evenings. We loved our balconey so much that we didn't want to leave at night! We just wanted to have our meals overlooking Cruz Bay and taking in the relaxed evening air.
Be sure to rent a jeep, if not for your whole time there, then for at least 4 days.... you will be glad that you spent the money and did that. As we wanted to get all around the island, it was imperative to have a jeep available and it made our days much easier.
We snorkled every day, for hours! We would travel all over the island, finding the best places to snorkel. Do not miss Salt Bay pond or Leinster Bay - Waterlemon Cay. Serendip was a wonderful place to come back to in the evenings. We love to explore the places where we vacation, and there was a terrific "guide book" in a 3 ring binder that held all sorts of great information about the island.
Ashley was so helpful from the first email I traded with her to our last day when we had to say good bye.
We will definitely return. It was the perfect type of accomodation for our relaxed attitude.
Island Time!

Room Tip: All the condos have a great view.... the higher up the better!

Stayed in the Delta unit again, and everything was great. Love the location of Serendip, the beautiful views, the comfortable units. The manager Ashley does a terrific job and made us feel very welcome. I used the pool this visit, which was a nice late afternoon treat. Will definitely stay at Serendip on my next trip back to St. John.

Room Tip: Can't beat the Delta unit, second floor with gorgeous views.

This was my first time to St. John, however my partner has been here 10+ times. It was his first time renting a condo and my 10+ times renting condos around the country.
First: Ashley was truely amazing! She was welcoming, helpful and available. She even notified us when our flights back to Boston were canceled due to the impending blizzard.
Second, the Coral unit we stayed in was fantastic. The balcony overlooking the town and bay was outstanding. We had breakfast on the verandah every morning and hung out there. Everything was very clean, plenty of towels, and soap. Many condos I have stayed in don't provide all the items that we found in the unit such as; cleaning products, a first aid kit, maps etc. It was gracious of the former renters to leave excess items such as tanning lotion, bug spray, sugar packets, and jam behind for us to use. In other condos I have rented all these items would have been thrown out during the cleaning of the unit.
Third: I would definitely recommend sending ahead of time ( 2 weeks), a flat rate box through the US postal service for $16 any food or other items you will need during your stay. We don't check luggage so this was a tremendous help for us! Remember all the food is expensive here. My box weighed 16 pounds and fed us for a week for every breakfast and many other meals. Things I packed: packets of tunafish, small jar of mayonnaise, 6 small pineapple juice cans, our coffee, box of rice pilaf, box of penne pasta for pasta salads, teabags, a brownie mix, single serving cerael, maple syrup, peanut butter, parmesian cheese and since I bake, premade mixes for scones, pizza etc. We bought eggs, butter, milk, bread, and fruit on the island.
Fourth: If you like to hike, go to the Friends of the National Park store in Mongoose junction in Cruz Bay your first day and sign up for the guided Reef Bay trail since it sells out quickly. Also a great resource is "The Hiker's guide" map which sells for $2.95 at the National Park visitor center. We did quite a few hikes and saw so much more of the wonderful island this way. There were very few hikers on these trails so we enjoyed the beauty and sounds of the surroundings.
Finally: Every morning we were awakened to the roosters crowing and birds singing. Don't expect to sleep in unless you are a heavy sleeper. This place was in a perfect location - easy access to the town and the supermarket.

Room Tip: The top floors have the best views.

Forth time visitor to the USVI, but first time to Serendip. It won't be the last. If you are looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of Charlotte Amalie and to the peace and quiet of a tropical paradise then Serendip is your answer. It's NOT on the beach or down in town...that's the point. It's up in the hills close to town so the great beaches are nearby, as are great restaurants, "recreational" shopping, and groceries. The studio we stayed in was very comfortable (quiet as a tomb), the beach towels pleantiful, and each condo comes complete with beach chairs and a cooler to make your trips to the beaches more enjoyable. The resident manager (and gentle pooch) made us feel like family; in every way Serendip exceeded our expectations.

This was my second year in a row staying at Serendip, and once again I had an amazing time. I stayed for two weeks this year in a studio apartment and it was perfect. St. John is really a hard place to describe to people unless you've actually been there. I tell people if you don't come back from this island with a sense of tranquility, then you really have issues.

The location is perfect, (a 15 minute walk into Cruz Bay.) I walked into town every morning and grabbed a cab or hiked out to the beach. As for walking back, you need to be in good shape as the walk up Jacobs ladder or the shortcut by the market are quite the challenge. If we were out in town too late, we would just cab it back up the hill. I did walk back a couple nights, but you have to be careful cause the roads are narrow.

There ate two local eateries nearby that are fantastic. Candis BBQ is a small joint as you head into Cruz Bay after the starfish market. Also there is the wonderful Vegetarian place call Forward to your Roots. If you turn right before the BBall courts and head up the road a little bit, it'll be on your right side. Once again a small shack. This guy and his girlfriend make great local dishes. Its only open from 12 till whenever he is out of food so I recommend getting there early for lunch and bringing it back to the condo. There is really nowhere to sit and eat.

Room Tip: Juliette was a great studio for the solo or couple travelers. I stayed in the Gecko last year with...

To be very short and sweet, Love it.My two traveling companions and I stayed at Serendip from 8/24/12 to 8/31/12. One person has stayed there many times and is a fan, and against my sharing her secret favorite vacation place with others. We stayed in Echo, a walk-in from the upper parking lot, a plus for those of us with bad knees. It is beautiful, and well-appointed with 1 bedroom and 2 comfortable couches. The kitchen equipment was more than adequate, speaking as a finicky cook. The furniture throughout both within the condo and on the porch was both very attractive and comfortable. The view from the porch across the harbor to St Thomas was spectacular. As a photographer, I loved sitting out there at night and in the early morning hours to enjoy the changing view and to get some spectacular shots. Ashley and Hershey were both welcoming and very helpful (yes Hershey is great at giving TLC). Loved the bananquits and the Lesser Antilles finches (black with a rust patch at the throat) who frequented the sugar feeder, an endless source of fascination and amusement. The drive up Jacob's Ladder is "challenging", especially the turn to Serendip, but a small price to pay for a stay at St John's Hidden Gem. We plan on returning as often as possible.

Room Tip: Echo on the walk-in had a spectacular view over everything.
