My wife and I are frequent visitors to St. John, and avid foodies. On our most recent trip we decided to head to the new restaurant Ocean 362 at Gallows Point resort, (the former home of Zozo's).

Let me preface by saying that we have been to practically every restaurant on St. John over the years and love almost all of them, but Ocean 362 is now one of the best meals we have had on island to date.

We ate at the bar, (best sunset on island), and had a mind blowingly delicious meal! Also the bartender Josh seemed to have the answer to all of our questions; from extensive food knowledge to mastering his craft as a bartender. He also makes many of his bar ingredients from scratch, (must try his brandied cherries, grenadine, and falarnum bitters).

Certainly worth checking this spot out, and dining with Josh at the bar.

We were grateful to get a reservation but very sorry we stayed. The service was horrible. We waited 80 mind for our first course and just as long for dinner. The only thing we were offered was toast points during the wait. What is that? My food was excellent but others had clearly sat under kitchen lights. Very disappointing.

We loved our entire experience at Ocean 362. The ambiance and location is excellent. Our server was attentive and very helpful with recommendations. From drinks through dessert we had a wonderful experience. We enjoyed the shrimp curry and don't be afraid to ask for a bit more spice. We asked the waitress and she was spot on with her recommendation. This all comes at a price of course but this was our best meal from our week on the islands.

We arrived in time for our 7:00 reservation. Dinner was served after 8:30. And it was cold. The flavors were good on the mahi and the tuna but probably would have been better if warm. They were very apologetic and compensated us, but we expected better for a place with $40+ entrees. Incredible disappointment.

We've spent a lot of time on St John over many years. We decided to give Ocean 362 a try. We ate downstairs in the main dining area. I also peeked at the upstairs which is set up nicely for a cocktail and for parties of 2 or for solo dining. There's a bar/dining area for those that want to dine/socialize and also many small tables spread throughout the upstairs. The waiter told us they had been open six weeks.

The good: The location at Gallows Point (the former home of ZoZos and Ellingtons). Pretty sunset and St Thomas lights view. Comfortable setting. Attentive, friendly service from knowledgeable waitstaff. Good drinks if you don't mind paying astronomical prices. Decent selection of wines

Appetizers: Duck taco and scallops were so-so. Ceviche was fresh and very good

Entrees: The Mediterranean Sea Bass was exceptional, lamb chops ordered medium/rare were slightly undercooked but good. Chef prepared a vegetarian risotto which was OK. Shrimp Curry was bland.

Prices are sky high, even for St John. The food and experience at Ocean 362 just doesn't measure up. There are many better choices in Cruz Bay.
