“Nice hotel with pretty good breakfast”
Reviewed February 25, 2014

We really enjoyed our stay at Estate Lindholm. The owners, Angela and Brion, were pleasant and helpful. Our room was beautiful and comfortable. Between the cross-ventilation from the screened windows and the electric ceiling fan, we never needed our air-conditioning. It's a short distance to Cruz Bay, but you really need either a taxi or your own car to go to Cruz Bay to eat dinner at night because the roads are curving, have no lighting, and have no sidewalks or shoulders. Plus you have to remember that some drivers have been drinking. The breakfast was a buffet and pretty good: hard-boiled eggs, fruit, bagels, muffins, toast, and French toast were on offer most mornings. This place is pricey, but not as pricey as the high-end resorts. The location is a short drive to hiking trails and beaches.

Once again we returned to Estate Lindholm for some sorely needed R&R after a hectic holiday season and in between some really nasty weather in The Boston area. Angela was most accommodating in arranging our room for a day early arrival and then a day early departure which allowed us to miss the trials and tribulations of what would have been the nightmare of cancelled and delayed flights.
As usual Brion was the gracious host and all around oracle for all things needed on St John to make one's stay pleasant and relaxing. The rooms, grounds and location of this special spot overlooking Cruz Bay have been a favorite of ours for a number of years now. We're able to hike to National Park beaches, enjoy fine dining (Zozo's highly recommended), walk to shopping in Cruz Bay, grab a bite at the Deli Grotto or have a pain killer overlooking the dock.
Most of all just lingering at breakfast, soaking in the view, sunlight and color of the water helps a lot between storms. Looking forward to our next stay.

I pushed the budget envelope on this vacation. My GF and I have no kids and love staying at B&B’s. After reading raving reviews here we booked our Vaca with Lauren last fall for our trip this January 2014.

I’ll start that Estate Lindholm has amazing views, rooms are clean, breakfast more than satisfactory, well-manicured grounds and even have a few cute cats (Boots) greeting you from time to time.

We stayed in Jan 2014 in what was described as a transition period. The innkeepers have divorced and Lauren is no longer with the Estate. Which may have something to do with a few snafus during our stay. Nothing fatal but one could feel the effects of a missing manager and some on the job training for both owner and his new ast’ manager.

The lost reservation, not getting picked up at the ferry and being placed in the wrong room did put a sour taste in our mouths.. Especially after a 12 hour trip to get to the island. In speaking to a few guests it seemed they might have had some of the same types of issues.

That aside, we were placed in the correct room 2 days later and had a wonderful time at the Estate. Brian is the breakfast master of ceremonies, guiding you to the secret beach spots and places to see while on the island. Angela is warm and pleasant and was dedicated to make our stay comfortable.

There is an honor bar (liquor and beer), and again the views from the pool deck or your room are fantastic. Cruz bay is a short walk but BE ADVISED a steep short walk. Mongoose Jnct has shops and dinner which were all very good. Everything is $$$ on the island. Cab rides are $5-8 each depending on location.

Estate Lindholm has beach chairs and coolers to borrow. We did pack a lunch and did an easy hike from the back of the Estate to Honeymoon Beach, where you can also access Caneel Bay Resort. The hike up Caneel Hill, also off the back of the property, is recommended for wonderful 360-degree views of the island.

There were a few nights where we did hear the rock band from town. The wind would carry the sound; sometimes it seems the band was outside our window! You will also hear large trucks downshifting on the large hill behind the property during the daytime hours. There were no problems with other tenants etc on the property itself being loud. The property and surrounding areas can be very dark at night and early in the morning if you need to catch the early ferry to St Thomas.

A wonderful property and we could listen to Brian illustrate the history of it and his stories all afternoon…

Room Tip: Hawks nest - IMO is the best view

Longing to return to St. John without paying the hefty price tag of the super luxury resort (but not wanting to miss out on any of the luxuries), we decided to try Estate Lindholm. Tucked up on a mountain overlooking Cruz Bay, the views were breath taking. The hotel is small and friendly with a charming ambiance. Lush gardens, flower strewn walkways, and best of all Brion, the Inn Keeper, who joins in for breakfasts and story telling on the terrace. Brion grew up on the island and was educated in the states. He combines the best of both worlds and can provide you with historical fact and lore or direct you to the best locations for snorkeling, swimming, eating, hiking or whatever you want to do. His friendship and guidance added to the beauty and comfort of the place and enabled us to have a wonderful vacation.

It was so difficult to pack up and head home to the frozen northeast after a stay at Estate Lindholm! We rather last-minute decided to go to St. John over the Christmas holidays and were lucky to get two rooms---Cinnamon and Caneel. Both had lovely views of the national forest and of the water. The rooms were comfortable, very clean, and charming. I must point out the fluffy, nice-smelling bath towels (not the threadbare bleachy things you get in chain hotels). We had a mini fridge, microwave, coffee maker, and sink (along with a small set of dishes); there's a patio set on each balcony as well.
Our rooms also had a nice little entry area with its own patio table and chairs. The grounds are AMAZING, lovely mature landscaping and beautiful rock-walled paths. Every morning fresh flowers and shells line the walls! The pool is on a patio that's perfect for watching the sun set.
Each morning a nice breakfast is laid out: breads, cereals, fresh fruit and juice, coffee/tea, even waffles or pancakes.
Best of all, your host, Brion is there to chat, make recommendations about beaches, restaurants, everything. Brion's daughter was home on break from college and was also very welcoming.
You can walk to the shops and restaurants of Mongoose Junction.
The only reason I don't recommend for families is that it's not for children (mine were both college students).
My only question: Brion, can you adopt me please?

Last night, my wife and I returned to our snowy home in Michigan refreshed and rested, ready to face the rest of winter after 6 nights at Estate Lindholm. Yes the views were incredible, the garden view room had beautiful views of Cruz Bay and beyond...but what made the visit so special to us was the people! We were welcomed warmly by Angela, greeted warmly by the whole staff every time we encountered them, and Brion was the most gracious host imaginable. Starting each day with breakfast on the patio with Brion and all the other guests gave focus and purpose to each day. " what are your plans today? was always the question, followed by his encouragement, suggestions, and wisdom, and anecdotes. A great trip to a great location, filled to satisfaction by a gracious host! We will be back!,

We are at Estate Lindhlom, having breakfast on the deck overlooking an amazing view of Cruz Bay. This is our second trip to St. John and Estate Lindholm. We're halfway through our week and are again having a wonderful experience. The owner, Brion, is extremely nice and always available to assist in planning activities. The property is close to Cruz Bay and the North Shore beaches. Most guests have rental cars, though we decided not to rent one this trip, and have found true open air taxis perfect for getting around St. John. The photos on the website do not the grounds justice- the gardens are gorgeous! Highly recommended.
