We typically get our sandwiches for the beach @ Deli Grotto, but we decided to try something new. We split the Sammy Hammy and homemade chips. No kidding...those sandwiches are HUGE! Also, the helpful girl behind the counter ( I didn't get her name) talked us into a freshly made Milano cookie...she said we wouldn't be sorry...and can I tell you how right she was! It was rich and amazing. Next trip to St John, we'll be back!

My boyfriend and I visited this sandwich shop/deli in late August 2012. We took some sandwiches to go, along with one of their homemade pasta salad type dishes and some chips. We headed for Watermelon Cay, where I we traversed many rocky paths to get to our landing spot. We lunched on these sandwiches before heading out for some scuba on the Cay. The sandwiches are AMAAAZING. We both loved them. I had one that had crab meat and it was divine!! We wanted to save some for post-scuba though, so we hid them up with our things-- tied up in a tree. When we came back about an hour or so later, we caught RED HANDED some (we suspect) mongooses (we called them bongooses = beach mongoose) eating our wonderful sandwiches! They had snatched them down from the tree and were eating them there in front of us. They scampered off, but moral of the story is: GO GET SOME SANDWICHES AT SAM & JACK'S. EAT ALL IMMEDIATELY. Do no risk the bongooses eating your sandwich!

We stopped in Sam and Jacks last Sept while on St. John We had received great sandwiches at that time. Just made it back to St. John and wanted to get a lunch for the beach. We were highly disappointed at this visit to Sam and Jacks. A few things just stood out we had to write about. They advertise 1/2lb sandwiches not sure about this is that 1/2 lb of meat or total weight?? ours were no where near that! Last time we came the meat was bulging from the roll this time neatly tucked inside. Item two the place got dark inside They had several at least half of the lights off or burnt out and it made it hard to see the quality of the items in the cases. The third item was the price they jacked up a sandwich from $9.00 to 10 in just 6 months For what they are producing now I can get the same at the Starfish market at a better price. Sorry to say we wont be back to eat there on our next trip

We read the outstanding reviews for Sam & Jack's Deli so we had high expectations......we were not disappointed! We stopped by on our way to the Trunk Bay to grab some sandwiches for lunch. The service was great, the sandwiches simply outstanding, the pasta salad tasty and then edamame/quinoa salad the best! Highly recommended! The sea gulls loved are sandwiches as well, as they grabbed one of the sandwiches out of our hands at the beach.

The sandwiches are large enough to share. We tried the Sammy Hammy and Uncle Peep. Since we were buying our sandwiches the day before we needed them we asked which ones would last until the next day and were certainly steered in the right direction. They were delicious the following day at the beach. The new owners had been in place for only 3 days when we visited and they were doing a fine job of figuring out everything, including the confusing register. We wish them the best of luck in their new venture! I would have given a higher review but the meatballs didn't live up to their reputation - they tasted like a lot of bread - however the portion of the meal was huge and easily could feed two very hungry adults for $6 per person.
