“Always great!”
Reviewed January 19, 2015 for a stay in January 2015

Thank you Kristen and Chuck for another wonderful, care free vacation at Great Expectations! Everything about the plant is superb! Loved the new quilts, very pretty and comfy. As usual, Toby (and Patty) took very good care of us. Thanks!

“A little slice of paradise!”
Reviewed January 9, 2015 for a stay in December 2014

As I sit in the frigid temperatures that are now the reality of the winter in NJ, I'm thinking longingly of my time on St. John. Less than a mere month ago, I visited a little slice of paradise called Great Expectations. The place lives up to it's name and more. The amenities were exactly as described, the pool was clean and refreshing, and the property was gorgeous. What a tranquil and beautiful place to vacation. I can't wait to return!

“Breath taking views”

We chose Great Expectations because we had a large group (friends and family) going down for our wedding. The villa was beautiful. There were breath taking views from both sides of the villa. The villa offered space to hang out as a group and private time as well. The villa was well-taken care of. The property manager answered all of our questions, gave some great suggestions of things to do and came to the rescue when we called. The flowers on the property were beautiful and we enjoyed the wild life that came to visit (iguana's and birds). It was relaxing, comfortable and well stocked. We were provided beach towels, beach chairs, and water shoes for the beach you can walk down to. Everyone had a great time and our wedding exceeded our expectations.

“A Home Away From Home”
Reviewed November 24, 2014 for a stay in November 2014

I rented Great Expectations for a week for my destination wedding. Both my family and my husbands family all stayed for the week with us. The property was perfect for different families to have their own separate space yet interact when they wanted to. Sometimes staying in hotels or other peoples homes can be awkward; however, Great Expectations is completely different. My guests and I settled right in and treated the place like it was our own home. We loved cooking on the grill out by the pool at night and swimming in the 3 pools on the property! The rooms were so clean and the place had everything you could think of available (coolers, beach towels, hair dryers, etc.). We cannot wait to come back and stay again!

“Most Amazing Trip Ever... Epic!”

The pictures and information on the website don't do this Villa justice... it is by far better and more gorgeous than you can ever imagine. The Villa is as advertised and then some. Chuck, the owner, and Coby, the property manager, have done an amazing job with this property. The views are incredible from both sides. Whether you are in the pool, the shower, or the main house you have a beautiful view of the Caribbean Sea. The Villa is stocked with anything you would need to comfortably live there during your stay. The appliances are top notch and it is well stocked. The grill was awesome and it was neat cooking out on the pool deck looking out at Chocolate Hole harbor.

The set up is great whether you are traveling with couples, friends, kids or family. The bed/bunk situation is very flexible. The pools are to die for! I spent more time in the pool at the Villa than I have in any other pool in years. The set up of the property allows you to see the sun rise off the front porch and set over the pool and Chocolate Hole in the evening.

The owner and the manager will bend over backwards to make sure you have the stay of a lifetime. We went with three couples and all of us had the most exciting, relaxing and fun trip of our lives! If you are thinking of going to St. John's do yourself a favor... Go and stay at the Great Expectations.

“#1 Rated Villa for a reason”
Reviewed September 17, 2014 for a stay in August 2014

Where to begin... Being a first timer to the island I wasn’t sure what to expect for my first time on the island. Would I be bored on a remote island? Should we have stayed on a resort with activities? How would the food be on the island? Questions ...

Well, let’s put all those questions to rest. The only remaining questions my wife and I had at the end of the trip were: A. Why didn’t we stay longer? B. When are we coming back?

The Villa has views, on top of view, on top of views. The architecture and design is top notch on a property littered with gorgeous vantage points and views. Great Expectations sits atop Chocolate Hole and Hart Bay therefore you simply can’t have a conversation on the property without a breathtaking view. This also allows the luxury of both the sunrise and the sunset.

The location of the villa is just a 5 minute drive to various local Markets and grocery stores. Cruz Bay is about a 10 minute drive. 12 minutes to Caneel. 20 minutes to Coral Bay. The island is small so unless you’re going to the East End or Lameshur Bay nothing takes more than 20 minutes or so.

The amenities of the house are spot on. If you’re a home cook like I am you’re fully stocked with all your cooking needs in a spacious kitchen. The showers are incredibly cool. Laundry on site. And then of course you have the new infinity pool – you will NOT be disappointed with the view from the pool!

Customer Service – couldn’t ask for more. For those of you that put as much a priority on customer service as I do, I assure you this is a top notch asset of Great Expectations. Cobys the property manager. Coby greeted us at the dock when we shipped over from St. Thomas. He brought us to the car rental, waited and then brought us to the house, gave a tour and provided all sorts of insights and tips. Beyond that, he was on call for us all week for various tips and help. Cobys the man!

So that’s the Villa! In this review I tried to focus on the villa itself rather than the island. There are books upon books that will provide allllllll sorts of fantastic information about this incredible island – it’s filled with all sorts of interesting history and funky quirks. Here’s a few keywords that may provide a small spoiler alert: snorkel, stingray, turtle, donkey, iguana, mongoose, easter rock, switchback, reef bay trail, petroglyphs, waterfall, caneel, honeymoon, trunk, cinnamon, lameshur, zozo, shipwreck, mongoose, skinny legs, pain killer (ok, Ill put some context on this one – it’s a drink obviously loaded with rum), bad kitty, BVI, soggy dollar, virgin gorda baths

There you have it – I could probably write another 5-10 pages but I think you get the point by now. This Villa lives up to the name and I promise you’re in for one heck of an experience!!

“Paradise - both the island and the villa”

What a wonderful vacation we had! We loved the villa - they thought of everything! The kitchens (great room and guest cottage) were awesome, plenty of utensils, plates, bowls, cups, pans, huge fridge, lots of counter space. The pools and jacuzzis were great - cooling in the day, and warming at night, plus a speaker system that could be indoor, outdoor or both - we loved listening to Bob Dylan, Simon & Garfunkel, MC Solaar, all provided by the villa. The beds were comfy. The rooms were spacious. The bigass fans and all the sliders allowed for wonderful breezes to cool us. There were extra masks and fins for the kids to borrow. We snorkeled every single day - every - in blue blue water. Ahhhh. Internet worked fine enough for our purposes though it's not great on the island. Local restaurants were tasty (although I wish they'd move to non-gmo and use healthier oils like olive and coconut) and close. Grocery stores were nearby. Driving on the island was a trip - the switchbacks that go vertical are amazing, and the views are too. We stopped for donkey, chicken, goat, pig, and crab crossing! Coby did his job really well - met us at the ferry, got us and our luggage to the villa, told us all about the local restaurants, beaches, shopping, and then disappeared until he was needed. Very friendly chap. Cleaning crew was obviously awesome because the place was spotless when we arrived. What else can I say? We spent 10 days catching up with family, snorkeling, eating, and repeating. What a great way to unwind. Thank you Chuck, Kristin, Coby, and the cleaning crew!
