It's very cheap, leaves every hour, so convenient, and the ferry itself is pretty clean. The tide is calm so you don't get sea sick and I even got to see a turtle!!

I was concerned this might be a difficult process, especially since I was using one of the car barge ferries. Nothing could have been further from the truth. They make it an easy process. I used Love City Ferries, Inc., very friendly customer service. An older gentlemen was afraid to back his SUV onto the barge so one of the ferry crew members backed it onto the barge for him. The crew member was not standing there with his hand out looking for a tip, instead the older man had to insist the crew member take a tip for doing this for him. I was impressed.

Couple of turn offs about the Red Hook ferry to SJVI. First, never leaves on time (I know, islands, whatever). Second, charges for all bags, and then the ferry attendants ASK FOR TIPS as they are doling out the bags which you are forced to part with when entering the ferry. Really?
The ferry between SJVI and Charlotte Amalie runs much less frequently but is a MUCH better option for traveling between islands (going to/ from airport on St Thomas) if you can swing it time-wise.

$7 per person one way! Can't beat it! Runs every hr but remember island time is different. You may not leave right on the hour!

There are two ferries to to STJ, and the easiest is from Red Hook. It only takes 20 minutes, and is reasonably priced. From the airport, the cab is 45 minutes and $15.
