The ferry is a fantastic was to get between St. Thomas & St. John. It is inexpensive, leaves often and convenient. However, A warning to anyone who gets seasick or motion sick, the ferry will leave you dizzy. We got more seasick on the ferry then on a day sailing trip.

What can you say? It's a ferry and it leaves on time. We used the car ferry as we rented a car on St. Thomas and ferried our way over. One thing that is worth pointing out is that if you buy a round trip ticket it is only good for the return trip with the same ferry company (there are I think three different companies). As it turned out even though I bought a round trip ticket it was of no use to us because we had to take another ferry due to the schedule not working out for us. No big deal. A little pricey for a car ferry ($35 I think one way) but we only needed to make one round trip. Chances are if you are headed to St. John you won't have much of a reason to go back and forth to St. Thomas during your stay.

The ferries run on-time, Red Hook to St. John takes around 20 minutes, another 5 minutes afterward to pick up your luggage if you brought it with you.

We couldn't take our car to St. John (Hertz had a strict rule) so we parked in the parking lot by the terminal ($2/hr or $10 for a day) and took the ferry over. It was $6 a person and left a few minutes late so we didn't have to rush as much as we did. We took the early ferry over and it was only about 15 min and had about 20 or so people on it. It was quick, and had a great breeze sitting on the upper deck. Docks right at Cruz Bay where there is plenty of things to do or you can grab a quick taxi (right up the way to the left of the dock) and go anywhere else on the island (we went to Lindquist for only $9/person so the rates are very reasonable.
