Our apartment was fabulous, spacious, well kept, and well appointed with all of the creature comforts. The staff couldn't be more accommodating and helpful. They thought of everything. The only drawback is that although it is on the water, it doesn't have a beach. It is, however, a 2 minute walk to the town's shops and restaurants.

Can't miss by staying at Grande Bay Resort. Parking is a big deal in Cruz Bay, and Grande Bay provides free, covered parking with easy access to the accommodations. Great pool deck with hot tub. Convenient to downtown Crus Bay. Very nice staff. Very accommodating. We usually stay at Lavender HIll when we visit St. John. This was our first stay at Grande Bay, and GB will now be our regular accommodation. Great resort.

Room Tip: We stayed in a studio. It was plenty of room for the two of us. We could have accommodated one chi...

We stayed at Grande Bay recently for a couple of nights, and after years of coming to St. John I have to say this place is not what it should be for an island experience. When they built these condos there were many reports of black mold throughout the building. Our room smelled like mold and it had those open plastic air freshener jars sitting around the unit. Not the nice ones, the big ugly ones you get at Home Depot for a moldy basement. The quality of the workmanship in the room was shoddy and hardly felt upscale. The noise level from above, below, the hallway, and on each side was like being in a cheap motel. The location is great, but I would check out some of the other condo options close by for a better island feel and experience. The Garage parking lot situation is odd and cramped.

Paul H, President Homeowners Association at Grande Bay Resort, responded to this reviewResponded March 12, 2013

Dear Guest,
As President of the Grande Bay Homeowners Association, I am sorry you did not have a positive experience during your stay. As you know, most of the units are owned by individual owners and several units remain under the ownership of Bay Isles, and we all work together with the goal of making sure that all of our guests and owners have a great time during their stays at Grande Bay. I can tell you that the overwhelming majority of our hundreds of guests, as reflected in the reviews, have had very positive experiences so it is concerning to me that your experience was less than that. We are investigating to see what the noise issues were that you experienced and certainly will address that. As for the “musty” smell, this too has not been the experience of our other guests and owners, but we are also investigating to see why you had that sense. I am glad that you enjoyed our terrific in town location and we hope that you will give us another try. If you send me a private message, I would be delighted to discuss your experience in more detail and address them with the individual owner and hopefully convince you to give Grande Bay another try.
Sincerely,
Thomas Hill

We rented a condo thru vrbo which is less expensive than renting a room thru the resort for the same thing. The view is unmatched and you are right on the beach and harbor!Just a few minutes walk and you are in the small village of st john. Very charming ,tropical and many nice restaurants of all price ranges. Great happy hour prices from 4-6! Our favorite restaraunts were Romas Italian,Jakes for breakfast and barefoot cowboy in lumberyard building for BBQ where they also have live music. The casual atmosphere at joes rum hut on the beach is nice as is the food and happy hour. Our favorite beaches were trunk and cinnamon. If you have more than 4 people it is better to rent a car for a few days to get to some of the beaches than to take an open air taxi however get their by 10am especially on the wknds when beach parking is limited. Also get to airport at least 2.5 hours early on sat as many long lines...A great laid back vacation!!

Room Tip: We like the rooms right on the beach the best!

My husband and I arrived at this Grande Bay studio and fell in love with it. It had everything you needed for a week’s stay on the island. Mini fridge, dishes, utensils, beach chairs, coolers, ice maker, iron, blow dryer, beach towels, and little extras like sunscreens, lotions, toothpaste, etc. The view from the balcony was great. You are high enough to see straight over the front building and see the wonderful water and St Thomas. The VRBO listing for this condo is completely accurate, as are the photos. The property was well maintained and the owner is very quick at responding. I would recommend this resort to anyone staying in St John. You cannot ask for a better location. You can literally walk to all the restaurants and bars in Cruz bay in less than 5 minutes and Mongoose Junction in less than 10. You won't even need a car for most of your stay. Getting taxies are a 3 minute walk from the condo (right by the ferry pier) if you want to head to the National Park Beaches. Some of our favorite places to eat were next door at the Banana Deck, then across the street at the Beach Bar, and of course Woody's. Woody's had the best food at the cheapest price. We ate there multiple days. Our favorite beach is Cinnamon Bay but we also recommend Trunk Bay. You can’t go wrong at any beach on St John though. Some of the most beautiful beaches in the world trust me. Last helpful little hint, take a day trip over to Jost van Dyke. You won’t be disappointed. Check out Foxy’s for the “scene.” You might even run into Foxy himself, we did! Then head over to Soggy Dollar bar for some painkillers and a wonderful relaxing day at the beach.

I did a VRBO here last week. The design of place has a few design quirks. Anytime you leave your unit, you have to go through a garage. It's kind of like hitting a bunker on the island from the TV show Lost anytime you go outside. The pool is always in the shade during the high season. The building design has some incongruous Spanish and Italian elements that don't really make sense on St John. But once you get past the head scratching design elements, you've got a vacation property with an excellent location with some great suites and some of the best courtesy staff that you'll find in that part of the world. Our unit had plenty of space for outdoor dining, which is important for avoiding ants, and the fully stocked kitchen and washer/dryer came in very handy traveling with a 1 and a 3 year old. The units are also very sound proof.

Room Tip: The lower towers are a lot more accessible if you walk into town.

Went to St. John to celebrate my cousin's wedding. Stayed in condo with my mom and two sisters. Great location, we could walk everywhere. Minutes from ferry dock, easy to wharfside village. Beach across the street. Business center to print my boarding pass. Would definitely stay here again. Other family members stayed here also, so made it very convenient to coordinate activities.

Room Tip: Ask for pictures, each unit is different. Also some have beach chairs and other things included or...
