“Great spot for Happy Hour!”
Reviewed March 13, 2013

As you will find, St. John is no stranger to happy hours. This restaurant has a great ocean view, and very good happy hour drink and food specials. Try the fish tacos and some of their rum & coke wings.

“Misleading customers about opening time”
Reviewed March 11, 2013

Friends recommended the Spyglass to us for brunch, and we were so excited to try it that we showed up 10 minutes before its posted opening time of 9AM. Unfortunately, the Spyglass had changed its opening to 10AM but had not published that new information on the sign or menu outside its door. So we didn't have enough time to have brunch before our ferry.

“Agree, terrible awful service!”
Reviewed February 27, 2013

To the reviewer on Feb 26: was your waitress names Trisha (dark curly hair)?
We just returned from St. John yesterday and it is not often that I still feel the sting of a bad dining experience days later but I am still ticked off! Same thing, went on a Sat afternoon to the advertised brunch. Plenty of seating, light crowd, but the worst possible service imaginable that it was ALMOST laughable... IF the waitress hadn't been so horrid in her demeanor.
We still tipped twenty percent and ended up spending over a hundred dollars on two fish sandwiches, an omelet I could make better at home any day of the week (out of mushrooms) and a very mediocre burger. Oh and they got the bread wrong for my toast (thought that was simple enough).
Last year had a fond memory of appetizers and drinks with a view so I brought my family back there this year. Never again!

“Poor Service”
Reviewed February 27, 2013

My family (2 adults, 2 teens) went to Spyglass at around 5:00 for happy hour and dinner. We ordered drinks, and realized that the happy hour menu wasn't going to satisfy our appetites, so asked to be seated for dinner. One of the servers apparently didn't know that the new policy was to begin serving dinner at 6, and seated our teens while my husband and I were waiting for drinks. In the meantime, the bartender first told us we could have dinner, then told us we couldn't. Seemed to be A LOT of confusion about this policy... Anyway, we all moved to a table in the bar area and ordered appetizers and more drinks while we waited for it to be 6:00 so we could have dinner. After about 40 minutes, we still didn't have our appetizers. I asked the bartender to check on our order and he found out that the order had never been put in. UGH. We should have just cancelled the order at that point, but didn't because we were hungry! The bartender said our next round of drinks would be on the house, but since we had just gotten drinks, we never ordered another round. And they didn't comp us the last round. When a waitress finally brought the apps out, she was unfriendly and unapologetic. Needless to say, we did NOT stay to have dinner. What a disappointment.
