Really enjoyed our 5 night family stay (with kids aged 15 and 12 and grandparents in a separate unit) here over New Years. Great location at the edge of Cruz Bay....5 minute walk to ferry, shops and restaurants ....yet still private and quiet. Well manicured grounds and great snorkeling right off the grounds, with a swim deck out in the water. Pool area not large but beautiful and perched on ocean point. Loved our upper oceanfront unit with loft ceilings and dramatic west-facing views ....all units seemed to have great views, although there is some variability in furnishing style as the units are independently owned. Friendly hotel staff. Pricey but definitely special.

The employees at the front desk was impatient with my check-in questions. They refused to call house keeping manager to get an estimate of when my room will be ready. From my stand point, this is an inconvenience when the staff is in the “service” industry to help its clients.

In the end, it is just a phone call. And the employee’s refusal to call-and-ask prompted this negative review. I don’t think it’s worth it.

Manager, please identify and rescue your staff, especially when travel business has sharply declined.

Mother daughter trip! We returned to Gallows for our second time on a much needed vacation. Gallows is the place to stay on St John. It’s close enough to Cruz Bay to walk to shops,bars, restaurants which we did daily. The pool area at Gallows is unbeatable. Clean and right on the sea. Three levels of sun deck. Hot tub too! A dock out to the sea where you can step right in and snorkel. The one restaurant is only open for dinner but it is top notch food! The grounds feel like a tropical rain forest and there are peacocks roaming freely around. The rooms are upper and lower. We chose a lower as we like a patio. It opens right to fresh green grass overlooking the sea. The units are actually condos so they’re very spacious and have a complete kitchen. We made many meals here and this made us feel even more at home here! There is onsite FREE laundry here too. The staff is friendly, kind, and they will do anything to help make your stay supreme. Their shuttle van picks you up and drops you off at the ferry also. Most folks we met at the resort were repeat guests. We joke that we want to spread the word about this wonderful place in paradise yet we really dont want anyone to know about our secret slice of heaven!
