My husband and I discovered a new favorite place to eat in Cruz Bay this July. We stay at Caneel Bay and usually eat at the resort's fine restaurants, only going out to Asolare and perhaps Paradiso. We ventured out a bit more this time and were delighted with Waterfront Bistro, which we visited twice because it was so good. Waterfront Bistro is in Wharfside Village. It is not easy to spot when you are walking around, you have to know where you are headed in advance! Taxi drivers will know where to drop you off. The tables sit right next to the beach by the ferry dock. It is very mellow with a pretty view and comfortable ambience. The food is excellent with a French flair. There is a large bar that looks like it could be a lot of fun! We were thrilled with the food, the wine list, and the gracious service. The specials of the day were especially scrumptious! One night, I had an exquisite vegetable risotto, so our vegetarian friends will really enjoy their meals here too! The chef had varied specials on different days in the same week, unusual for the "slow" season on St. John. If you are a fan of St. John's peaceful beauty and fine food, you'll love Waterfront Bistro.
