“Quiet and beautiful”
Reviewed January 23, 2014

It's hard to visit this area without a car. During the weekends there is no public transportation, only cabs and they are expensive.
We had lunch in the Ekaete Pink Corner, delicious homemade style food. I highly recommend the goat stew (large portions).
Coral Bay is quite, not so crowded like Cruz Bay and very natural. It has great views.

“If quieter is your thing”
Reviewed January 22, 2014

If you'd like to stay on the quieter, cheaper, more laid back part of the island you'll be happy here. We preferred it to Cruz Bay. There is still plenty to do on this side and it's not a big deal to drive up to the northern beaches.

“Best Area on St. John Island to Stay”
Reviewed January 19, 2014

Far from the bustle of Cruz Bay, Coral Bay moves at a much slower space and is easy to get around. If you rent a house, there are great views available of the bay. 7 or so restaurants. We tried five of them and liked all of them. You will see several donkeys on the road as well as goats and chickens. People seem genuinely friendly and helpful. About equal distance (4 miles or so) from the best beaches on the north and south sides of the island. Its one of the places that causes you to pick up the real estate circulars and start dreaming. Four mini-markets in the area. Prices a probably a bit less expensive on food and selection is better in Cruz Bay so stock up before you make the trip to Coral Bay. No gas station in Coral Bay. Rent a four-wheel drive vehicle even if plan to stick to the paved roads -- some of very steep especially the drives up to the individual houses. Although, it is only 8 miles from Cruz Bay, it seems like a different experience entirely. Pick up the free maps you see at the ferry dock and around town. AT&T wireless service works great in Coral Bay -- there is a nearby antenna. As long as you are on the AT&T service, standard plan applies and there are no roaming charges for AT&T customers.

“Christmas in St John- Coral Bay”
Reviewed December 28, 2013

We spent the 20-27th in Stone Haven.A great return for the price. www.vbro.com #32037
A perfect house that had all that we needed for the trip. The house had many essentials such as spices, toiletries, floats, some scuba gear ( not great quality, but will do) The best part is the little grocery store right below that has just about everything you want. Pricey, but convenient. We also were very happy to have had the property manager Marc Miller (www.jamesmmillerpropertymanagement.com ) provide us with some great tips. We were able to send many items ahead of us to the great little "Keep Me Posted" store ran by Anna just below the house. For $15 we sent a large flat rate priority box that was waiting for us upon arrival. She charges just $3 to hold and keep until you arrive. I'll send more next time! The address for this store is 16213 Spring garden , St John VI 00830 and the phone # is 340-775-1727. I also froze a tenderloin, bacon, sausage etc and took as a carry-on with gel packs on the plane. It was still frozen upon arrival. The house had a gas grill on the large screened in porch. This made for a great meal as well as some sandwiches for the beach trip the following couple of days. We also ate at Aqua Bistro below as well as Skinny Legs for some local flavor.

“Best view, even in the rain”
Reviewed November 11, 2013

We spent a week in Fish Bay, near Cruz Bay, for a wedding, but drove to Coral Bay for a day. It rained going across the island - it is green and tropical, gotta have rain. We stopped at Bordeaux Mountain, for shopping and coffee that turned into breakfast...

The views were outstanding, even in the rain, seeing fog roll in on one side.

Fewer restaurants and shops, but a laid back vibe not found on Cruz Bay. Not only the wild donkeys on the road to Coral Bay, but a herd of wild sheep, grazing on both sides of the road, mainly in the soccer field! A feeding station for feral cats, with a half dozen cats chilling with the chickens who were also enjoying the cat food.

If you are on St. John, spend some time checking out Coral Bay!
