“Great family trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 13, 2012 via mobile

Been on many snorkel trips in Caribbean and Hawaii and captain Phil takes the cake. Super friendly and personal and was great with our 3.5 yr old son who really just wanted to talk and look around.

Captain Phil took us to a great spot with supurb visibility and no other snorkelers. We had the place to ourselves. Saw a ton of marine life and his gear was surprisingly really good. When we got out of the water he had a beer waiting. What else can you ask for?

Not luxurious, but very clean and tidy. You can tell captain Phil takes great pride in his business and in st john. Would totally recommend for a personal experience with a small group or family.

“Wonderful Wayword Sailor experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 28, 2012

Capt Phil and Tarn make a great team. They made sure we were comfortable and took it easy and slow. I enjoyed the stories and history lessons. My wife and I spent a full day sailing to Jost Van Dyke, British Virgin Islands. We did some snorkeling, ate at Foxy's and walked around while Capt Phil and Tarn pointed out some of the flowers and sights. Nice easy day. We were not looking for a wild ride and bar hopping, this sail was great. We also went on a sunset sail. Champagne and hors d'oeuvres were great. The dinghy ride out to the moored sailing sloop was a treat for someone who has never had the experience before. Be prepared to use the "head"; it is quite the experience. We recommend hiring out the Wayward Sailor as part of a USVI vacation adventure.

“Great Sunset Sail”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2012

A great evening started with a call from Captain Phil to confirm we knew where we were meeting. After a short dinghy ride to his sailboat we left and set sail along the north shore of St John. Captain Phil regaled us with stories of his decades sailing throughout the Caribbean, and his knowledge of local culture, customs and wildlife were amazing. We will return for a sailing excursion in January!

“Awesome experience!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 9, 2012

We traveled from Massachusetts to St Thomas this past November 2012 looking to get out on the water, snorkel and renew our 14 years of marriage. We found Capt/Minister Phil on the internet and read all the wonderful reviews so thought we would take a chance. My brother in law and wife also joined us. We were over an hour late after taking the ferry to St John to meet Capt Phil as we had turned our clocks back for "fall back" not realizing that the Virgin Islands do not do that! Capt Phil was so patient with us and understanding and was determined to still fit in everything we wanted to do without making us feel rushed. Tarn his mate was such a wonderful and easy person to talk to and together they both helped make our experience awesome! We stopped at a remote island where Phil led us in a beautiful vow renewal then continued on to Jost Van Dyke where we had a great lunch and walked around. He and Tarn were so knowledgable about the area and also had great senses of humor! We continued on for some snorkeling where Phil hopped in the water with us and pointed out many things we would have missed snorkeling on our own. On the way home Tarn fed us fresh pineapple and homemade brownies which was just what we needed after all day on the water! Our immediate thought leaving the boat was when we come back with our kids next year first thing we are going to do is book the Wayward sailor as I think our kids would have a blast with Capt Phil and Tarn! Well worth the money and then some. Phil and Tarn are truly special people and we are forever grateful for our time with them!

“Recommendation of the Wayward Sailor.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2012

Went sailing, snokeling, exploring, and eating with the Wayward Sailor on our last vacation to St. John, US Virgin Islands. The sailboat comfortably accommodates 4 adults plus the staff. We loved Captain Phil's skillful approach to boating and snokeling. We loved his crew, particularly Allison who created a wonderful, relaxing atmosphere for the trip. Also, the food was great (homemade crab salad sandwiches, coleslaw and dessert!). Would definitely recommend the Wayward Sailor!
And, yes, as one reviewer said: we could do without the sales pitch to buy their t-shirts/caps but that is all optional.
