We heard about this hike from family members who regularly do it on their trips to St. John and had to do the trail ourselves. We have extensive hiking experience--Colorado, Utah, ect.-- and found the short, steep trail to be interesting but not extremely taxing. It was probably an hour roundtrip, but was a good hike because of the steep incline. The views are incredible the whole way, as you start on a beach and make your way through a valley and onto a cobblestone beach before ascending Rams Head. Definitely a MUST DO for your next active vacation to St. John. I highly recommend it. The pictures alone are worth it!

We went to Salt Pond Bay, and meandered over to Ram Head Trail. It has some great scenery, and some fun beginner level rock climbing. BRING TENNIS SHOES, if you really want to enjoy it to the fullest. The trail is rocky and (duh) it's easier to climb rocks wearing tennis shoes. It's really worth the view!

Somewhat strenuous hike to a rocky South Shore peninsula with nice views overlooking the Caribbean Sea and back toward Salt Pond Bay. Allow about 3 hours to hike from the parking lot to Salt Pond Bay beach, take the spur trail around the salt pond and on to Drunk Bay, hike to the top of Ram Head and back, and take a refreshing soak in Salt Pond Bay afterwards. It will be pretty hot so try to get started early and bring plenty of water. The spur trail to Drunk Bay offers an opportunity to experience rugged and rocky shoreline and a chance to admire the coral sculptures left by previous visitors. Enjoy lunch and drinks at the Tourist Trap just up the road on Route 107 afterwards.

Whenever we get to St. John, we try to find out way out to Salt Pond Beach and then further along to the Ram's Head Trail. It is a moderate hike out to the point, but well worth it! The views are stunning, and photo opps abound!

drove here from cruz bay...the drive was intense, and not well marked. But we are so glad we forged ahead. Stopped at Concordia resort at the top of salt pond and received such great, friendly service. First, the trail takes you from Salt Pond Bay, which is a beautiful and quiet beach, up a short trail to a beach made of 'river rocks.' (cobblestones) I've never seen anything like it! The water was crystal clear and the rocks were so smooth and brilliantly colored. Then, we continued the trek up the trail to the top. WOW! WOW! Wow! From the tradewinds blowing in your face to the turquoise water splashing against the cliff faces...it was truly a sight I will always cherish.
