My husband and I just returned from our amazing stay at Carnival Beach House! We stayed from March 30 - April 12, 2011. We are both so happy that we chose to stay here for our vacation. Bonnie (one of the caretakers) met us right at the car ferry dock and we followed her to the villa - this was great touch as it would have been a bit of a challenge to find it the first time on our own. She gave us a tour of the villa, showed us how things worked and then we hardly ever saw her or Doug (the other caretaker) after that, which made it feel that much more like your own private oasis. The villa isn't huge but it was just the right size for the two of us. We stayed in the unit upstairs (which I recommend). It has a wonderful balcony overlooking the pool, the beautiful landscaping, and the ocean. Inside there is a nice sitting area with TV and a dining table for two. The kitchen is small but it definitely worked for us. Since food can be pretty expensive on St. John it was nice to have the hotplate and grill to make meals. The fridge is also small but it never was a problem. The supermarket is not too far away so we just made a point to stop every other day and get a few items for the fridge and not try to load it up. The many coolers they provide in different sizes also helped to keep ice in and take to the beach. The bathroom is nice and large. The only complaint I can say about our stay was that we got four towels for our almost 2 week stay and they did get a little musty smelling. We could have maybe asked for more (?) but didn't. They also provide beach towels, beach chairs and floaties that you can take to the beach with you. We loved having our own private pool as well and spent a good deal of time in it. The beach is rocky so not really a beach you can chill at but once you got in it was sandy. Snorkeling is pretty good off that beach, we saw lots of turtles, spotted eagle rays, regular rays, and lots of other fish. There were two iguana's that would frequent the villa. They would hang out around the pool or on top of the bougainvillea bushes!! It was so nice at night to have all the doors and windows open and listen to the surf come up on the rocky beach and all the jungle sounds to lull you to sleep. But it was also nice to have the air conditioning to use if you get too hot. The no seeums are no joke, we got pretty bit up by these things and felt like we spent a good deal of time itching! We did bring bug spray but didn't utilize it enough to keep them away. The mosquitos were around but not bad at all. The location of the villa is perfect, not too far outside of Cruz Bay to be an annoyance when you want to go into town and right off another road that will take you over to the east end or to Center Line Road. Starfish Market is a really nice grocery store and there is also the Pine Peace Market which is located a bit closer to the villa and has good prices and friendly people working. Since there aren't many reviews on trip advisor (which frustrated me when trying to decide whether or not we wanted to book this place) I can tell you that there are guest books in the villa going back to 2007 filled with RAVE reviews about how much people were so happy they chose to stay at Carnival as well. This really is a jewel of a place to stay and we are already considering booking a trip for next year!!!
