“The best vacation ever!”
Reviewed June 16, 2012

My husband and I just returned from 5 days at Bolongo Bay Resort and we loved every minute of it. The property was exactly what we had hoped for a resort in the Caribbean. Thatched roofs, palm trees, lots of exotic plants, rooms with bamboo furniture and white tile floors, jalousie windows etc. An added bonus was the fridge, sink, microwave and sets of real dishes and silverware that was provided. Our room was "beach-front" and within a few steps of being right on the beach. Gorgeous pool with swim up bar and the friendliest staff you could imagine. We loved it!

Room Tip: All of the rooms had balconies and an ocean view but our room on the first floor was "beach fro...

We enjoyed our springtime stay at Bolongo Bay. We brought along our 16 month-old daughter and stayed in the 2 bedroom, 2 bath condo. Our friends (a couple without kids) stayed in a regular room. We all loved the small feel of the resort and the laid back atmosphere. The front desk was pretty unimpressive as far as "first impressions" go, but who really goes on vacation to spend their time at the front desk?

The bellman, Josh (i think this was his name...) was so welcoming and friendly. He was quick to bring us rum punch and show us to our rooms with a smile. He was really genuinelly helpful and seemed to care about the kind of impression he made. Many of the staff seemed to feel that way...the other half seemed to be the stark opposite..but I think that's just life. :-)

The condos are PERFECT for families or friends. The water comes right up to the balcony it seems. And the balcony is quite large, with glass doors from both the dining area or the master bedroom. There's also a 2nd pool (with no bar) onsite at the condos if you don't want to walk down the beach to the Bolongo pool.

We chose the all-inclusive option, which was great for our friends, but was slightly less convenient for us since our daughter goes to bed for the night crazy-early (5:30) and the restaurants are not open for dinner at that time. The all-inclusive dinners are supposed to be enjoyed in the actual restuarant (rather than as take-out), a fact we didn't realize until we were already checked in, but when we explained our strange circumstance with baby's sleep schedule to the front desk and restaurant managers, they were happy to accomodate without any complaints at all. Baby also wakes up early and is ready for breakfast by 7 a.m. and the restaurant wasn't open yet that early. We were first in line each morning to eat and get our morning coffee! The food was really good and far better than ANY other all-inclusive resort. The condo kitchen would have been more than sufficient for cooking if we had chosen that option and had a rental car (relying on a cab to the grocery store would tack on $60 each way (so we were told) to your grocery bill...I'd rather have someone else prepare it and sit by the sea!).

The beach and pool were quiet and uncrowded every day that we were there. Sometimes I would say, "are we the ONLY guests here?" It was strangely wonderful! The "Beach Hut" staff were extremely accomodating and friendly too. They even had clothes baskets full of beach toys for kids to borrow.

The resort is not typical. There's no staff member screaming and yelling over the microphone for people to come take salsa lessons or play horseshoes. There are no beach-walker creeps selling stuff (legal or otherwise). There is no loud music blaring at the pool. It's just a beautiful beach on a beautiful bay with a beautiful pool and 2 great restaurants to choose from.

Other general tidbits:
If you take the all-inclusive option, DON'T forget to tip...the attitude of a few of the bar/restaurant staff when they see the all-inclusive bracelet compared to their attitude toward a "paying" patron makes it obvious that too many people think all-inclusive means "no-tips-required"...

ABSOLUTELY take water shoes. I don't care how ugly they look... :-)
ABSOLUTELY take a thermacell or some mosquito coils.
St. Thomas is NOT stroller country for those with babies. We did use the stroller to get from condo to the pool, etc. but there's no sidewalk near the resort and the roads are too narrow and steep to even dare go for a long walk.

ABSOLUTELY negotiate your cab fare at the airport before you get in the car. 4 adults + 1 baby paid $85 to get TO the resort and we only paid $45 to get BACK to the airport. Sucks to be taken advantage of....

Once you arrive at Bolongo, prepare to be relaxed...the bay is colorful, calm, shady, with picnic tables and hammocks all over the beach. We never left the resort and never got tired of the view! This is the place for a real vacation!!

Room Tip: ALL rooms AND condos are oceanfront with a balcony. The walk from the condo to the first bar/restau...

We stayed at the Bolongo Bay last summer and we are going back on the 21st of this month. It was a great experience and we have reccommended to it friends. If you are expecting a typical fancy 4 star resort, you will be dissappointed when you arrive. However, if you know what to expect in the islands you will be pleased. The all-inclusive package was a great deal for us. The views are fantastic, the amenties are great, the food at The Lobster Grille was delicious and Iggies had great food, too. I was most impressed with the people working at the Bolongo Bay, from Simon at the the front desk, to 007 at the bar, to the lady at the gift shop and the guys out on the beach, everyone was helpful and friendly and went out of their way to make our experience the best! While there is lots to do at the resort, don't miss taking the ferry over to St. John. Trunk Bay is something you don't want to miss, it is absolutely beautiful! You also want to make sure you go down to Iggies and enjoy the live entertainment nightly. It is always a fun time. Finally, don't miss lying in the hammock on the beach outside of Iggies, it is one of my favorite places in the world. Just don't be in it on the 21st, because I will need my spot!

Went to a fun rehearsal party given by friends at Ziggies. They went overboard with great service, drinks and food. I had stayed at Bolongo Bay a few years ago on a night before a cruise and was so glad that Bolongo Bay is still going strong with friendly service and it's beach style. Not everyone wants to stay at a Ritz or Marriott and this resort delivers to those folks who want to be lay back and relax!

Spent 10 days at Bolongo Bay to celebrate our 45th anniversary (our 3rd visit). The staff is the best we've seen anywhere. very friendly and will go out of their way to help you. The food is incredible! Rooms aren't real fancy rooms but kept spotless & we don't spend much time there anyway. Heavenly days is "HEAVENLY"! Can't wait to go back!

Room Tip: Ask for beachfront.

We arrived at Bolongobay Resort last Sunday June 3rd after three long flights. Upon arrival we were greeted with delicious Rum Punch and many many warm smiles. My husband works for the airlines and we fly stand by, Daniella and Selma were the most accommodating, helpful people I have ever had the pleasure of working with. Check in was very quick and in no time our bags were taken up to our room that had the most amazing view ever. Our room was clean and the beds were very comfortable. The resort setting is all tropical and beautiful plants and flowers adorn the property. The beach is very nice, turquoise water and includes use of all non motorized beach toys. Our daughter loved being able to just go and get a kayak anytime she wanted. Both restaurants on the property are excellent with superb service. We did the all inclusive, which is highly recommended. The food and drinks are high quality, must try the filet mignon at Lobster Grille and Bananas Foster. The mixed drinks are by far the best, no skimping on alcohol at this resort. My husband and I felt so at home at Bolongobay that we allowed our 11 year old daughter more freedom than usual. We owe special thanks to 007 for taking such good care of our daughter and making her favorite drink, a virgin mud slide. Also thanks to Doninique and Piper that took such good care of us at Lobster Grille and finally to Daniella and Selma who made us feel just like family. We can't thank the crew at Bolongobay enough for making our vacation such a memorable one. If you are looking for a very hospitable, relaxing and enjoyable time, look no further than Bolongobay resort. We love you guys and will see you again on our next vacation!!!!

My wife and I stayed at Bolongo Bay in September 2011. It is a small resort with great food, great drinks, great scenery, and great snorkeling! You can snorkel for free behind the resort and you can find all kinds of fish, sea turtles, and even reef squid. The food was great. Crab leg night was my favorite!
