Owner description: This beach has two faces: a quit spot to relax in a lounge chair and sip tropical drinks purchased from the beach bar; or, a sporty beach to snorkel, windsurf, sail and play volleyball. The choice is yours.

Four of us went to Morningstar Beach to check out the snorkeling conditions. Morningstar is part of Frenchmen's Reef and is located in front of the Marriott at Frenchmen's Reef.

It is a small, but nice beach and has a surf that is great for boogie boards and Sailboarding. Unfortunately, because of the surf, the snorkeling was not as good as some of the other beaches we've been to such as Sapphire Beach and Brewer's Bay. The water was very cloudy.

The beach has two restaurants and fairly decent parking. We were glad we checked it out and we came away from our visit with some really good Iguana photos, so I give this beach a four-star rating, in general.

What a beautiful beach! Nice and sandy and long. Crashing waves but fun to be in and enjoy. Lots of free beach chairs but bring your own towels. There's a nice bar at one end near the parking lot and a great little restaurant closer to the Marriott Frenchman's Reef Hotel. Some shade which is a must since most of the beach is ALL sun. There is a surf shop that lends towels and umbrellas. The beach does fill up with cruise ship travelers after 10 AM and the beach becomes deserted after 3PM. Bathrooms and change rooms are also off the parking lot. Kids will have a ball on the beach.

Staying at the Frenchman's Reef, so this is "our" beach. Having been to Magens Bay and Coki Beach, I can't give this a thumbs up. Why? First off, bunches of stones about 20 feet out. Not the Marriott's problem. Just the way it is. Second - all beaches in St. Thomas are public, and the cruise population knows it. So they come to this beach with their non-Mariott towels and take over the umbrellas and lounge chairs. The non Marriott people are supposed to pay a fee for sevices, but the hotel does nothing to enforce this. We witnessed two circumstances where rude groups pulled lounge chairs right up to older couples under an umbrella and sat right next to them. When the older couples left, the cruisers snatched the umbrellas and commandeered the space. The hotel charges $35/day for a resort fee, but these folks don't seem to have to pay. Not fair.

Morningstar Beach is one of our favorites and it has just about everything you could want in a beach...except for maybe solitude! It's part of the Marriott hotel complex on St. Thomas and there are two story cottages overlooking the water. We like to get there early and enjoy a lovely breakfast at the restaurant on the white sand beach just feet from the water. Breakfast was delicious and there isn't a more perfect setting in which to relax and decompress. The beach stretches from a rocky outcrop on the left to the entrance of Charlotte Amalie Harbor on the right so the water is mostly still and great for swimming. We did not snorkel but equipment is available at a activities shack on the beach. Lounges and umbrellas are available for vegging out and that is just what we did!
We also enjoyed lunch at the restaurant (try the Mahi Mahi sandwich) and the pool was also a joy. The only drawback is that this is a large public, beach associated with hotel. There are always rude people who rearrange their equipment on the beach and force the rest of us to walk around their positions but that is a personal rant. If you are looking for a relaxing day at the beach in St. Thomas, you can't do better than Morningtar Beach.

This is the beach our hotel was on so it was easiest for us to access. Since we were staying at the Marriott the loungers, umbrellas, snorkel equipment, towels and boogie boards were complimentary. The waves were just right for some fun boogie boarding. The water was pretty clear. Neat view of the giant cruise ships coming in in the distance. A few shops and restaurants, and bathrooms on the beach so if you needed sunglasses, sunscreen or a snack it was easy. My favorite part was the waves. Big enough for boogie boarding and my favorite- just getting knocked down and getting back up before the next wave.
