This was our first experience with any Ritz Carlton. When looking at options I fully researched all properties in St Thomas and read all the TripAdvisor reviews. The Residence option worked well for us as we had 3 families... adult children and small grandchildren. We booked 2 units, 1 3 bdr and 1 2 bdr. I started the process over a year ago and finalized our bookings in Feb. I had asked for a 2 bdr center unit but they were not able to accommodate even thought I booked so far in advance. At first I was a bit disappointed but honestly, the units are so beautiful and well-appointed that it really did not make a difference. We stayed in Jasmine on 5th floor and we had an absolutely beautiful, unobstructed view!! Loved the 2 times a day housekeeping! I had requested housekeeping times that would not conflict with toddler nap and bed times and they fully accommodated my request. This is the only property that has fully honored my request. The entire housekeeping staff were prompt and very friendly. In fact all staff on this property made us feel very welcome.
This is a very quiet property and even though the pools/spas are open 24/7, we never really had any noise issue. I only wish the Coconut Cove and Sails restaurants would have stayed open later then 10pm. There really is no good late night activity on either the club or hotel side after 10pm. We did have rentals cars and could have traveled to Red Hook but with small kids it was a bit inconvenient. Really not a need to venture from this property as it is pretty much all inclusive. If you rent a car, be careful, the roads are pretty treacherous.. narrow, poorly marked, no lighting. I was just a passenger and I was terrified. Definitely was an experience and I do not think I would rent a car again. Taxis were abundant and everywhere.
Just a side note... found most St Thomas locals, outside of the resort and taxi staff, to be very rude to tourists. We took the advice to always address with 'Good morning', 'good afternoon', and we were greeted with blank stares and indifference. I found this very off-putting as tourism is their only economic source. St Thomas is very impoverished if you travel off the resort properties.
Back to the hotel review...We booked through an on-site agent, Matthew McCormack (firstname.lastname@example.org) and he was very responsive at every step of the process. I highly recommend him and would use him again!
