“Disappointed”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 9, 2013

We are Wyndham Timeshare owners and thought we'd try this resort out. We usually don't have much bad to say about our vacations, but we will not go back. It was like we were the only one's on the island - very strange - even though they were booked solid. Restaurants & pool bar closed very very early. The beach was nice, water very clear. We had a nice room w/a full kitchen and pretty view of the bay. Was odd that we had a full kitchen, but was only provided 2 spoons, forks, knives & plates - which meant, if we were eating in our room all day, we'd have to wash dishes 3 times - def didn't like that very inconvenient. If you plan on traveling off the resort by taxi, it's very expensive. They charge, by person, each way $$$$. We're glad we went, but will not return. There are many other Wyndham resorts that we were much happier with. In fact we'll be heading back to Aruba in Feb. Can't wait.

For my birthday, my daughter and son-in-law took me to St. Thomas. We stayed in this clean, well-decorated, and fully-equipped condo. Everything that we needed was in this place. The huge living room contained a comfortable Murphy bed where I slept. It opened onto a large balcony with furniture. I spent every morning there drinking coffee and reading. The view overlooked the beach. Another balcony was placed off the enormous master bedroom suite. The kitchen was well equipped! The owner even provided a magic jack phone so that we could make local calls and calls back home. There was a laundry room and all types of beach equipment in a separate closet. Coffee was available for me! The computer worked fine! Look for rental by owner to locate the exact condo. Another room was available for an additional fee, but it was not needed by us.

Room Tip: Our room faced the beach and we were on the bottom level.

After reading reviews we where a little worried, in fact the first room we checked into was actually under construction but that was the worst, it only got better because the room we moved into was great. We had to split our stay since all days were not available and on return we again got a great room on our second check-in. Although advertised the first room did not contain a flat screen tv, I only mentioned that because we overheard another guest complaining about it and both my wife and I wondered why you would go to this location and be still consumed with a stupid tv. From spending a night elsewhere and then returning we realized just how much of a deal this place is, well, for us, I should mention that it was a timeshare exchange but the grounds and units (the updated ones) were better looking than a lot of places we looked that would have cost more.
Every resort relies on the friendliness and courtesy of the staff to make it a pleasant stay. From the moment we checked in and had to change our room to the last day the reception staff was incredible! We totally enjoyed talking and joking with them. They really do try and make your stay better. I am sure if you have a pleasant attitude, no matter what a situation is they will go above and beyond in being helpful. It happened to us. The girls at the beach shack were very helpful and fun, we ended up going on the boat/norkle/Baths trip and had a lot of fun.
The beach is not large but adequate, its clean and very few people. The pool is close with a bar, two places to eat that are good and happy hour makes them very reasonable.
Needless to say, our stay was awesome. We met some great people and would love to go back, if even to just say hi to the staff :)
One thing to remember, there is the additional utility charge. Even if your resort forgets to "mention" it in their literature you will need to pay it. Internet from our room was pretty lame, we carry a little travel antenna so it definitely helped and we could get free wifi but without it I don't think it would have been so good.

Room Tip: Section A and B are the closest to the pool

In three weeks we stayed in three different resorts, Elysian was the only one that had a lounge chair on the balcony! HUGE kitchen, bright and shinny! My Druid did work in our room (unlike Blackbeard's resort on the other end of the island)! We were dreading the Murphy Bed, but it was really comfortable. Due to the balcony being so large we never had to put the bed back up during the day. The bath sink is outside the shower;toilet area. The two restaurants were perfect, causal for breakfast and the Caribbean Fish Market was great for dinner. AFTER going over Donkey Hill we stayed in the Red Hook area of the island for 4 days. The beach was so nice, we never made it to the pool.

Room Tip: Mid-level rooms require less stairs from the parking lot, but more stairs down to the beach. Again n...

After reading many TA reviews, we found Elysian to be quite nice, as expected. Our only minor complaint is the lack of WiFi service. It was non-existent in the room, even for a fee, and very spotty in the lobby. So plan on a relaxing vacation without being online.

Our room had a murphy bed, which was comfortable, but no other beds. The bathroom was small but everything worked except the fan, which maintenance promptly fixed. Nice view from the balcony.

The higher end restaurant (Carribean) was pricey but very good. The lower end bar/restaurant was fair. Both served weak drinks. The fitness center and even the concierge are contractors, so nothing is free or included, and the daily electric surcharge - while not a surprise - was high.

The pool was very nice (again, the pool bar served really weak drinks), although we had to leave early after being surrounded by numerous hungry iguanas. The beach is small, calm, and well maintained. It was perfect for a non-swimmer like me, or for families with kids. The side trips offered by the concierge were fun - especially the powerboat to the British Virgin Islands - and the free beverages onboard made up for the pricey ones back at the resort!

We rented a car, but I'm not sure it was a good idea. The resort is a long drive from the airport, with very poor road signs. In hindsight, using a taxi or the local safari vans would have been better. Nothing except the Ritz is within walking distance.

Room Tip: Check the building layout and call ahead to request a room down the hill, unless you like to climb a...

Wow! This resort is beautiful! They have just installed several new AC Units which accompanies the updated rooms all providing a beautiful resort experience. The only thing we were not happy with is that after we arrived we found out we had to pay $22 per day for electric. The check in staff is fine, not great. They are nice unless there is an issue then I feel as though they are not completely honest. Emma was exceptional. We only saw her once but she is a nice honest person, and very sweet. The manager was very understanding on the issue of the fee and made some concessions but we still had to pay. He was very professional.
The other issue is that the resort, Wyndham and the owner of the fitness center(independently owned) had a previous dispute and she packed up her equipment and moved out while we were there. She indicated that they were avoiding her. The Elysian manager said they would most likely bring in their own equipment which means there may not be a fee of $7 per day to work out like the previous fitness center had
All that being said it is a beautiful resort! The Caribbean Fish Market restaurant, onsite, though pricey was 5 star dining. The waiters and staff there were wonderful. At the cafe onsite the food was excellent and the bottomless Mimosa's are to die for. But the the best part of the resort is Sam and the pool bar. Sam is a wonderful bartender and absolutely beautiful. She seems to never meet an enemy and is by far the friendliest person we met on the island.
The hot tub, as indicated in other reviews, was broken again so we did not use it but the pool is great. The Iguana's are huge and very friendly and hang out at the pool all day. My wife even petted one of them.
So if you do not mind the energy fee or need a hot tub, who does in the tropics, go and have a drink with Sam and the Iguanas. Take the ferry for a day St John, too. Only $30 one way with a car and pay one way tickets so you don't get stuck waiting for the right ferry to come( there are 3 companies and they do not honor other ferry purchases).
Check list:
Beach- great
Restaurants- great
View - great
Alcohol-great( ask Sam for the Mel Special)
Drive to resort and surrounding area- not so great.
Red Hook- Great
Mafolie Restaurant- Great View
Coco Blue Restaurant- Great
Duffys Love Shack and Iggies Beach bar- Great

Room Tip: ask for third floor for best views

Checked in yesterday and was greeted by the Fabulous Vicki! I had spoken with her before we arrived and she has made our trip absolutely perfect with the room assignment she provided us. The studio loft is amazing!!! The roof top private balcony and view ....heavenly!!!

We enjoyed a very unique greek lamb pizza and sangria at Sangria's (onsite) our first evening along with banana pancakes for breakfast this morning! Looking forward to a wonderful week in paradise to celebrate our 25th anniversary !!

Again, can't say Thank You enough to Vickie!!

We are very happy Wyndham owners!!!
