On an 11-night vacation in St Thomas / St John we spent our 1st 4 nights and our last night at the Elysian Beach Resort. We used WoldMark points to both stays. Our first stay, we had reserved a King Studio, but were upgraded to a Parlor Studio (the Parlor studio has a full kitchen and a Qn size pull down Murphy Bed). We were nervous that the murphy bed would not be comfortable (I had visions of a sleeper sofa mattress) but it was a full, pillow top mattress and very comfortable. We didn't use the full kitchen, but it was nice having a full fridge to shop for our week on St John. We had a 3rd floor unit in Building Y which is at the top of the hill right near the entrance. Yes, it was a hike down to the beach and restaurant, but not has strenuous as I thought. The unit was very clean, comfortable and kept cool by the AC (something we did NOT have on St John). The bathroom was pretty small (sink & closet outside with toilet and shower inside), but it worked fine. I don't know how full the resort was, but the beach remained fairly empty (there was always a place in the shade and a hammock to relax on in the afternoon). We had a romantic dinner at Caribbean Fish Market, which was 5-star. You absolutely have to have a car and driving in STT is an adventure (I agree with the roller coaster comparison in the last review). Getting fresh pool towels was easy. In fact, we thought the pool and bathroom towels were very plush. All in all, it was a great way to begin our vacation. We returned to Elysian for 1 night at the end of our trip since we had an 8:30a flight and did not want to deal with getting a ferry from St John. We were given a King Studio room in Building X this time. Smaller kitchen, bigger bed and much bigger bathroom. Our room was on the bottom floor, so there really wasn't a view, but for 1 night we didn't care. Overall, we had a very good time. The units are very comfortable. The grounds are clean, the beach is nice (smaller than it looked in pictures), the beach bar & restaurant were great and the service was very good. If you're looking for a something with a kitchen, in a convenient part of the island, feel confident that the Elysian will meet or even exceed your needs.

Room Tip: the buildings at the low end of the alphabet (A-L) are closer to the beach, but the higher rooms have a great view of the bay and are closer to the entrance. The best time to exchange towels seems to be in the afternoon. The King Studio has a mini-fridge but the Parlor studio has a full one.

We booked the Elysian over 8 months ago through Wyndam's "Endless Vacations". Their system gives you very little info so I really relied on Trip Advisor and the reviews there. The negative comments made me leery, but I'm glad we booked there. We expected clean and comfortable and our expectations were more than met - they were by far exceeded! The grounds are beautiful and the property well maintained. Our newly remodeled studio was lovely. The Cowpet bay beach is great to practice snorkeling if you are rusty. Yes there are rocks on the sides, but that’s what makes the snorkeling good! My tips: if you aren’t a fan of lizard like creatures - this isn't the place for you. They are everywhere (and I think kinda neat). I agree, renting a car makes the experience. BUT - practice with a rally car video game at home first. It's like driving a car over a roller coaster track. Only Budget will let you take cars on the ferry to St John. Yes, food is expensive. A large combo at Senior Pizza (Redhook's Pizza Hut) was $26. Half a gallon of milk $3.99. Go to the K-mart at Tutu mall before you go to the Food Center. You can find lots of staples (including rum!) there and save $. Bring some staples with you (i.e. small salt & pepper container, sugar, creamer, peanut butter etc.). The AC unit is loud, but if you’re used to sleeping with white noise, not an issue at all. We found that it is best to turn it off for a while when we were gone. The unit did freeze up and stop working properly, but we shut it off and it had thawed out while we were out. Check with your cell phone provider about coverage before you go. FYI, Verizon is very poor on the island. Overall, we loved the Elysian!

Room Tip: Buildings A-C are lower with easier access to the beach and pool. Buildings higher on the hill will have better views if you have a top floor.

A very nice resort. 2 restaurants. One of them is called sangrias and it is an outside restaurant on the beach. We ate there often. The other one is the Caribbean Fish Market, it's a bit pricey but the food was excellent.

Our building was building X and was located at the very top which was quite a hike. On the flip side though, we had a fantastic view from our room.

Private beach is nice and we spent a lot of time there. There is a beach hut on the resort which you can book some trips. The snorkeling cruise is a must!

the only downside is that there was no ATM on the resort and no elevators.

We will definitely visit again. St Thomas is absolutely beautiful!

Very friendly staff that will do whatever they can to accommodate your needs all the way from the office staff to the girl that rents snorkeling gear. We strongly recommend renting a car if you stay here or the Ritz because cabs to this side of the island can get expensive.

Room Tip: Request a room on the 3rd or 4th floor of your building. The view of the bay is much better.

We stayed here for our honeymoon and were impressed. Especially given some of the reviews we had read. The studio we stayed in was new, the appliances (blender, coffeemaker all state of the art cuisinart). The knifes, plates and glassware were all quality.

The personalities in the front, we not overly friendly, but not rude either. Just doing their job. You ask a question, they give an answer. More like New York folks, its just their personality. Californians and Southerners tend to be more friendly and laid back, so you might be looking for that overly friendly accommodating personality and that's just not the demeanor.

Great location and value. We enjoyed our stay and didn't even notice the air conditioner. Yes it is a bit hilly, but unless you are really out of shape or in a wheel chair, the walk is less than 3-5 minutes and its good exercise.
