Owner description: A favorite of windsurfers, the beach has fine white sand and beautiful views of St. John and offshore cays, and offers excellent snorkeling at the reef to the east, near Pettyklip Point.

Had the misfortune of being dumped at Sapphire Beach while on a dreadful Sunny Liston Tour. It is not kept well at all and houses a very dilapidated resort. Besides a nasty bathroom, there were no adequate facilities, the bar did not even have a bar stool to sit on and if you really did want to sit you could pay $7.00 for a filthy beach bed. There was another elderly woman selling drinks from a cooler at outrageous prices in between braiding hair and selling things. Would not ever wish to return to this beach again.

Dear Helen C.-

We are so sorry you had a bad experience during your tip to St Thomas and also while you were visiting our beach. The several resorts that are attached could use some work, depending on which one you're speaking of, but we always try to keep the beach pristine and beautiful. The chair services provided are a service and also an option, since most cruise ship passengers are unable to travel with the chairs. I'm sorry the ones that you saw weren't up to your standards. We attempt to keep the chairs clean and new, but sometimes, due to the daily salt water and sand, they get abused a bit more than we'd like! We will certainly look into the chairs. Thanks again for your feedback. We hope you were able to enjoy the rest of your trip! All the best.

Clean and quite beach. Great for the family. There is a bar to order food and drink if you wish. Worth going at least once on your trip.

We have visited Saphire Beach 4 times on our cruise stops. There are free restrooms, drinks, snacks, snorkeling equiptment rentals, and souvenirs. There is no entrance fee. The beach is next to a resort. The open-air taxi fee is $10 per person each way, but gives you about a 30 min. view of the island on your ride there. Magen's Bay is beautiful, but crowded and has poor snorkeling. Coki Beach is crowded, run-down, but has good snorkeling. We prefer Saphire Beach, because it is quiet, clean, and has amazing snokeling. You can view numerous fish and turtles in just a few feet of water. The views of St. John are beautiful. There are ducks and iguanas under the shade trees. You can rent a chair for $5 per day, but we spend so much time in the water, that it wasn't necessary. The staff at the beach shop are friendly and helpful. There were always taxis available for the return trip.

Just a few minutes from Red Hook. Nice clean beach. Had fun swimming and feeding the ducks. Open to the public, free parking and access. It is part of Sapphire Beach resort. Drinks available but minimal selection.

Beautiful beach. We were there as a family for the 1/2 the day, great for beginner snorkelers or those with more experience. The beach was nice. Be sure to bring some towels. And you may want to buy your own snorkel gear. Some of us rented and some of us had our own. We had a fantastic day, would definitely go back.
